The female supporting character, yet a charmer to everyone

Chapter 32 - Post-apocalyptic Literature 13

When she opened the door, the man turned the doorknob and pushed it inward, so she was pushed by the door.

The man was kind and reached out to pull her back.

However, he seemed to use too much force, so she bumped into him.

The stiff cloth felt strangely familiar, vaguely reminding Yu Huan of the person who had carelessly fed her in the narrow carriage not long ago.

She had held his hand back then, and it felt the same.

A certain not-so-good hunch came to mind, and Lu Mingzhang’s unique deep, hoarse voice, already carrying a meaning that seemed like a smile, rang in her ear.

“We meet again.”

She hadn’t fully reacted when she was pulled out and pushed against the corner of the wall outside.

The half-open door swayed, but no one noticed.

She was neatly dressed, with slightly curly hair that looked fashionable and pretty, standing against the corner like a figure. Apparently, she had become a wealthy young lady again, and the former destitution seemed to have vanished like a passing cloud.

“Why are you running away from me? What’s wrong with you?” Lu Mingzhang said in a tone of disgust.

The little zombie sheepishly pulled out the same trick she had used on Sheng Lang, pretending to be stupid and keeping her head down without saying a word. However, this method did not work on Lu Mingzhang, who had heard her speak before.

“Speak.” He poked her shoulder once and then again to force an answer.

Yu Huan wanted to scream for help again, but as soon as she opened her mouth, her chin was grabbed.

Lu Mingzhang seemed to have seen her thoughts a long time ago. His dark, deep eyes were lowered, and the corner of his lips curled into an ambiguous smile: “You have some nerve.”

The little zombie had nowhere to turn for help and was sweating with fear. Suddenly, she remembered what the system had said about Lu Mingzhang wanting to be an old father. Her dark eyes looked straight at him, and her mouth turned into an inverted little parenthesis.

Lu Mingzhang’s grip loosened a little, and he sneered, “You’re still complaining.

“Huanhuan?” Sheng Lang called out her name and walked out.

The little zombie immediately turned her head and extended her hand to Sheng Lang.

Sheng Lang quickly walked over, dragging Yu Huan behind her, and looked at the man in front of her whose origin was unknown, “What is it?”

Lu Mingzhang looked at the little zombie who was naturally hiding behind someone else, and the smile on the corner of his lips became more obvious, but it didn’t have much warmth.

“A little ungrateful brat who can’t be trained,” he muttered to himself.

“Officer Lu? Officer Lu, why did you come here? Do you need some medicine? I’ll get it for you.”

The researcher from the lab followed him out, and when he saw Lu Mingzhang, he immediately came over and said:

“No need, just go for a walk.” Lu Mingzhang casually said, “Is Professor Wen here?”

“Yes, come in…”

“Did something happen?” Sheng Lang asked Yu Huan quietly.

Yu Huan shook his head and said slowly, “Let’s go home.”

The little zombie can talk.

Sheng Lang’s eyes lit up as he looked at her, his usually cold, handsome face rarely showing a look of surprise.

“Okay, let’s go back.” He took Yu Huan’s hand and walked down the stairs, his voice clear and gentle, “When we get back, we can decide what to eat, honey glazed chicken wings or pan fried cod…”

The two figures, one tall and one short, were inexplicably matched, and the explorer couldn’t help but feel a little envious as he watched.

“Who is that?” Lu Mingzhang’s smile had disappeared from his face, and his deep, unfathomable eyes darted around Sheng Lang.

“Oh, this is Sheng’s young master. He’s very smart, with a high IQ, and a rare mental telepath. Our professor has long wanted to recruit him into the lab, but he hasn’t agreed yet…” the researcher said casually.

Yu Huan went to the lab to have various tests done.

Some require taking blood and inserting many tubes, some require her to lie on cold equipment and be exposed to various lights, some require her to open her mouth, and some require a probe to be placed near her heart…

Although these are all normal tests, Yu Huan is still subconsciously afraid.

Human instinct.

After Sheng Lang took her there, she became even more nervous and scared when he told her to wait alone.

However, after a while, someone tapped her on the shoulder.

Yu Huan turned her head to see Sheng Lang, wearing a white lab coat, looking at her with soft eyes.

He had entered the lab and was in charge of her alone.

A little surprised and a little delighted, the little zombie jumped at Sheng Lang and let out a small cheer.

She wasn’t afraid anymore.

There weren’t many people in the laboratory.

Professor Wen was the eldest, middle-aged but already with gray hair, wearing thick lenses glasses.

Apart from Sheng Lang, there are three other researchers who appear regularly.

Xiang Qinghe is the leader of the group, funny and capable, with carefully styled wavy hair and four-inch heels that make her look like she’s walking on air.

She’s always in a hurry. Mao Bantan is the youngest of the group, with a baby face. He’s always talking about his sister, and his specialty is staying up late to complete tasks.

He Yunshan is a bit strange. He is always extremely focused when doing research, and no matter who is talking to him, he cannot be distracted.

Several times, when Professor Wen gave him instructions, he just let it go in one ear and out the other without paying any attention.

In this way, Sheng Lang is actually considered the most normal of them all. Yu Huan seemed to understand why the professor had made an exception and recruited him.

After spending a long time in the lab, Yu Huan quickly became familiar with the place. After completing her inspection and waiting to be observed, she wandered around.

She drank a box of yogurt shared by Mao Mantang and told him that she would bring him something delicious next time; she looked at what Sheng Lang was writing and secretly held his hand; she went to the corner to find the almost invisible He Yunshan and gave him some daily encouragement; she stroked Xiang Qinghe’s head as he passed by;

and check if the potted plants on the windowsill had been watered, and if the plugs behind the various appliances were plugged in properly…

In short, the little zombie is in charge of everything big and small in the lab.

At dinner, someone said that the little zombie is like the king of the mountain here, patrolling his territory every day.

Professor Wen took this to heart and specially asked someone to get her a nametag, a long strip with the title “Laboratory Butler” printed on it, to wear on her chest.

Since then, Zombie has been considered a member of the lab.

The main reason why Zombie is so precious is that Professor Wen’s family has a noisy “sacred beast” that never lets people rest.

When Professor Wen first met a little girl like Yu Huan, his eyes were truly opened. He realized that not all children are so annoying.

Professor Wen used to steal some snacks from home and bring them to the lab for Yu Huan. Sometimes it was candy from his bag, sometimes milk from his arms…

His desk, which no one else was allowed to touch, was also allowed to be looked at by the little zombie, and he often told Yu Huan some easy-to-understand truths.

It was late at night, it was quiet, and you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face, but there wasn’t a single light in the room.

Lu Mingzhang stood in front of the open window, oblivious to the biting night wind, his tall figure fading into an indifferent silhouette.

All emotions were lost in the darkness, except for the occasional flash of scarlet between his fingers.

For some reason, he thought about the zombie. The moment he stubbed out his cigarette, she unconsciously flinched away from him.

Was she afraid of him?

Lu Mingzhang found this strange.

If he was feeding her, why wasn’t she afraid of him?

But it was understandable.

Everyone was afraid of him. His enemies feared him because he was ruthless and merciless, his subordinates feared him because he was too strict and harsh, his children feared him because of his notorious reputation…

There was no one who wasn’t afraid of him.

He had long since gotten used to the negative effects of being powerful. But why couldn’t he think that she was afraid of him?

Such a waste of time was not worth thinking about.

Lu Mingzhang hesitated for a moment before quickly putting it aside and focusing on the interesting task of figuring out how to infect everyone with the zombie virus.
