Chapter 1619: Hero (2)
"What? You want to hit me? Go ahead then..." Although Peng Jing was indeed a bit nervous and scared, she still felt emboldened. She knew that her status had greatly elevated after the deaths of her grandfather and parents. These people wouldn't dare do anything to her, so she brazened her way forward, sticking out her neck, "Hit me right here!"
Gu Qingheng took two deep breaths, clenched and unclenched the hand behind his back, trying his best to calm himself, but the suffocating anger in his chest simply wouldn't dissipate.
What to do?
Nearby, Xiaohei was happily eating meat with Mark when it suddenly tilted its head to glance at Gu Qingheng and then at Peng Jing. Out of the blue, it darted forward and charged straight at Peng Jing.
"Ah!" Peng Jing was startled, letting out a scream as she collapsed onto the ground in fright.
But Xiaohei didn't stop. It jumped and flew toward her head, clawing furiously. Within moments, Peng Jing's hair was in disarray, with multiple strands torn out. Her shoulders, neck, and face were streaked with scratches, and she looked visibly in pain...
Peng Jing used her hands to fend off Xiaohei blindly, but her sleeves got shredded in the process, leaving her arms scratched and bleeding as well.
Xiaohei, knowing when to quit, abruptly hopped away and hid behind someone. From time to time, it poked its head out to check Peng Jing's reaction, amusing everyone like a mischievous child who knew it had done something wrong.
Several Shadow Guards chuckled quietly, but out of decorum, their laughter remained silent and restrained.
"Ah..." Peng Jing finally broke down, crying uncontrollably. "Kill that beast, quickly..."
Peng Jing sobbed violently, shouting hysterically, but not a single person comforted her. Everyone acted as if they hadn't heard, lowering their heads and continuing to eat their meat.
It wasn't that their hearts were cold; they simply couldn't extend kindness to this woman. To them, who constantly danced on the knife's edge between life and death, her disdainful view of them as expendable and her audacious pursuit of their big brother had already placed her firmly on their blacklist.
As for Xiaohei, it had done what they all wanted to do but couldn't. From now on, Xiaohei would be their hero. Kill it? Impossible. If anyone dared harm Xiaohei, they'd fight them to the last breath.
This only made Peng Jing feel even more aggrieved, crying even harder.
But crying takes energy too, and after a while, she grew exhausted, especially since there was a lack of water right now. So, in the end, she had no choice but to stop crying, though the pain from the scratches was real, and her tears continued to fall uncontrollably.
Gu Qingheng signaled to Gu Qiao — the punishment was enough, and it shouldn't go too far.
Gu Qiao handed over a bottle of medicine. "This is the healing balm crafted by our sister-in-law. It prevents scarring." He paused for a moment. "And it's worth a fortune."
Peng Jing froze briefly but ultimately curled her lips in disdain.
Gu Qiao waited a moment, and seeing she didn't reach out to take it, he simply turned and walked away. He had no intention of spoiling this woman, and frankly, the medicine was too precious to waste on her.
"Hey, you apply the medicine for me!" Peng Jing hadn't expected him to ignore her and shouted urgently, "I can't see the wounds myself."
Gu Qiao frowned and glanced at Gu Qingheng.
Gu Qingheng didn't look back at him. Instead, he tore off a piece of rabbit meat and slowly chewed it.
Gu Qiao had no choice but to walk back, open the bottle, and, careful not to touch her, awkwardly sprinkle the medicine powder onto her wounds.
