Chapter 1622: Injured (5)
The alpha wolf was half a head taller than the other wolves, with eyes that gleamed greener than the rest. Upon seeing someone actively attacking it, it bared its fangs and leapt into the air, evading Gu Qingheng's strike before turning its head to bite at his leg.
Gu Qingheng twisted his body mid-air like a sparrow, dodging its sharp teeth, and countered with a swift kick to its hindquarters.
The surrounding wolves, seeing their leader under attack, naturally wouldn't stand idly by and immediately closed in from both sides.
The alpha wolf, flipped over by the kick, was enraged and let out guttural growls as it charged toward Gu Qingheng.
But Gu Qingheng moved swiftly, leaping forth to meet the attack head-on. The Blood-drinking Sword buzzed, emanating a cold gleam of light.
The alpha wolf was fast, turning sharply to dodge the cold gleam and even managing to tear apart a corner of Gu Qingheng's robe with its claws.
The other wolves weren't nearly as lucky. In the wake of the gleaming light, their heads were separated from their bodies without exception.
The Blood-drinking Sword's power exceeded that of any divine weapon; its blade sliced through iron like mud. Wolf bones, far less durable than metal, posed no resistance. All four wolves that attacked Gu Qingheng were killed instantly, their throats cleanly severed.
Watching blood-spewing wolf heads tumble to the ground, Peng Jing let out a piercing scream before her eyes rolled back, and she fainted.
The alpha wolf let out a howl, filled with sorrow and rage. Though its posture was aggressive, it hesitated to charge recklessly forward. Surveying its fallen comrades, it seemed to realize a victory was impossible today. It decided retreat was the only option.
Yet the Blood-drinking Sword hummed incessantly, as if it wouldn't rest until every invader was slain.
Unwilling to let them go, Gu Qingheng chased after the pack.
No matter how formidable the alpha wolf was, it could never match the sentient Xiaobai, nor did it have protectors any longer. This time, amid the swirling cold gleam of the Blood-drinking Sword, it failed to dodge. Without even managing a final whimper, it met the same end as the other wolves—its neck cleanly severed.
With the pack leader gone, chaos erupted within the wolf pack. They no longer moved as coherently as before. In the sky, Heihei and Xiaohei unleashed their powers. Wolves were snatched up into the air, only to be flung back down, most lifeless upon impact. A few, fortunate ones, survived, albeit with broken legs.
Yet, regardless of the outcome, the wolf pack was ultimately defeated. Corpses littered the ground, while the survivors turned tail and fled. The sand was stained a deep crimson, and the air was heavy with the stench of blood.
However, Heihei and Xiaohei, mother and child, refused to let the fleeing wolves off so easily, pursuing the retreating pack far into the distance. In the end, only two or three wolves managed to escape.
Everyone heaved a sigh of relief and, battered and weary, slumped to the ground to rest. Apart from Nangong Xun, Shadow Two and Gu Di suffered leg injuries, while Shadow Four, Mark, had a shoulder clawed by a wolf.
"Good thing we have Sister-in-law's medicine," Gu Qiao sighed deeply.
Nangong Xun's injuries were the worst. A chunk of flesh had been torn clean from his forearm. Fortunately, the piece of flesh hadn't been swallowed by the wolf and still hung partially attached to his arm. They quickly reattached it, applied the medicinal paste, bandaged it, and administered a Medicine Pill internally, managing to stop the bleeding in no time.
As for the injuries sustained by the other two, they were much lighter in comparison to Nangong Xun's, allowing the medicine to work even more effectively.
"Indeed, it doesn't hurt anymore." Despite looking pale, Nangong Xun managed a smile, clearly showing his condition had improved greatly.
