Chapter 16: Four Asumas
"Whether it's slander or not, neither you nor I can decide that. Evidence speaks for itself." Uchiha Douhuan's expression turned cold. "By the way, you came just in time. According to your accomplice Shimura Retsudou, you were also involved in Shimura Danzo's theft of village shinobi bloodlines. Police Department, arrest the suspect, Shimura Hiroshi!"
As soon as Douhuan finished speaking, several Uchiha clan members from the police department rushed out, intending to apprehend Shimura Hiroshi.
"Uchiha Douhuan!" Koharu Utatane, who had been accustomed to her high position, was furious at Douhuan's lack of respect. Seeing that Douhuan was not only ignoring her but also attempting to arrest someone in front of her, she shouted loudly.
"I'm listening," Uchiha Douhuan said, lifting his chin and looking down from the stairs at the two advisors.
"How dare you do this? Who gave you the authority to arrest people?" Koharu Utatane questioned.
"Good question!" Uchiha Douhuan shouted, drawing his long knife. Two bolts of lightning flashed past the two advisors, landing at Shimura Hiroshi's feet. The explosion from the lightning chakra pushed back the Shimura clan members trying to advance and knocked Shimura Hiroshi to the ground. Uchiha police department members surged forward and quickly restrained him.
"You ask me who gave me the authority to arrest people? Let me tell you," Uchiha Douhuan slowly descended the stairs and approached the two advisors. "That night, when confronted with the crimes of Shimura Danzo, it was the Third Hokage who entrusted this matter to the Uchiha clan for investigation. Does that reasoning suffice?"
"When the Second Hokage established the Police Department and entrusted the Uchiha clan with such responsibility, it was to ensure the village's safety and to eliminate the toxic forces like Danzo, who harm fellow villagers for personal gain! Is that enough of a reason?"
Uchiha Douhuan stood before Koharu Utatane and bowed slightly toward the Hokage Rock direction before gazing at her. "If that's not enough for you, then perhaps the vow made by the First Hokage at the founding of the village—to protect every villager—will suffice?"
"Today, it's not me wanting to arrest him. It's the 11,000 ninjas and 85,000 civilians of the Land of Fire and Konoha who cannot tolerate this cancer any longer!"
"Uchiha Douhuan, you!" Homura Mitokado, seeing this, wanted to speak, but Douhuan had already invoked the First Hokage's words, and what could he say now?
The recruitment notice for civilian ninjas had been up for two days, and quite a few ninjas had come to apply, hoping to try their luck. This scene also attracted the attention of many civilian ninjas.
"So the Uchiha clan also has a sense of justice, huh? Seems like the rumors in the village aren't entirely true," the civilian ninjas whispered among themselves.
"The Shimura clan deserves this. They've been arrogant in the village for too long, relying on their clan's power. Who would have thought they'd finally hit a wall?"
The Shimura clan's reputation in the village wasn't much better than the Uchiha clan's. Seeing them in trouble now, the civilians couldn't help but gloat.
"How about the two advisors? Coming out so loudly—what are you trying to cover up?" Uchiha Douhuan asked, eyeing the two advisors with a scrutinizing gaze, his eyes narrowing. "I've heard that both of you have close ties with Danzo."
"Shut up, Uchiha Douhuan! You're spouting nonsense!" Homura Mitokado snapped angrily. "I'll report everything today to the Hokage."
"Please, feel free!" Uchiha Douhuan snorted coldly and turned, walking into the police department without looking back.
"Why are you two still standing here? Do you want us to escort you back?" Uchiha Fugaku spoke up.
"Humph." The two advisors, frustrated after their failed attempt, could only coldly snort and leave, sweeping their sleeves and walking away as they noticed the strange gazes from the surrounding civilian ninjas.
After Shimura Hiroshi was dragged into the interrogation room, the remaining three Shimura clan members were visibly terrified. They had originally thought that their clan leader and the two advisors had come to save them, but now they found themselves trapped.
"Give our Shimura clan leader a proper greeting," Uchiha Douhuan ordered, tossing Shimura Hiroshi into the interrogation room like a dead dog. "Be careful, don't spill blood—this would disrupt the ancestors' spirits during tonight's funeral."
"Yes!" The police department members replied in unison.
After arranging everything, Uchiha Douhuan left the police department. To return the stolen Sharingan to the Uchiha clan shrine, the Uchiha clan held a modest family funeral.
"Clan Leader, besides the Shimura, Mito, and the other two clans, the rest of the clans have sent their condolences," Uchiha Daohuo reported hurriedly to Uchiha Douhuan when he arrived at the family shrine.
"I understand. Go invite Fugaku-sensei over," Uchiha Douhuan instructed.
"Understood," Uchiha Daohuo nodded and left.
Soon, Uchiha Douhuan arrived at the area where the funerals were being held.
He didn't rush to act but waited for Uchiha Fugaku to arrive before starting to open the offerings.
At the top of the funeral offerings, there were only the usual items. After opening the top layer, what greeted his eyes was a glistening pile of gold and two land deeds from the village.
Uchiha Fugaku's eyes lit up, and he turned to Uchiha Douhuan. "Is this the money you acquired?"
Uchiha Douhuan nodded and carefully began counting, furrowing his brow. "It's still not enough."
As he spoke, Uchiha Douhuan began opening the offerings from the Akimichi and Nara clans as well. The contents were the same as those from the Yamanaka clan.
"This is a warning to us," Uchiha Douhuan said coldly as he counted the total value of the offerings. The items sent by the three clans were worth exactly 140 million ryo—four Asumas. This was the protection money paid by the Yamanaka clan for their involvement with Danzo.
However, the fact that all three clans sent their offerings together could not be more obvious—it was a warning to the Uchiha clan to stop. In their collective stance, they had nothing to fear from the Uchiha clan.
"Hmph, the boar, Deer, and Butterfly clans?" Uchiha Fugaku scoffed.
"It doesn't matter. These three clans have always been close with the Sarutobi clan since the Warring States era. They've never been a great value to us. If we got money out of them, it's already quite a surprise," Uchiha Douhuan said, unfazed. The Pig, Deer, and Butterfly clans had always had a close relationship with the Sarutobi clan, and since each generation of them had formed an oath witnessed by the current Sarutobi clan leader, Uchiha Douhuan had never expected much from them.
