Chapter 6: Everything started after I met him
As soon as Siaara stepped out of her apartment, the crisp morning air greeted her. She stopped by a nearby bakery, grabbing a fresh loaf of bread. The warm aroma filled the streets, but her mind was elsewhere.
She took a slow bite, lost in thought.
"How did my life change so drastically... so quickly?"
Just two days ago, everything had been normal. No shadows lurking in the night. No cryptic messages. No inexplicable warnings.
But now...
Her steps slowed.
The events of the previous night replayed in her mind, the chilling presence in her room, the whispers, the eerie message etched on the mirror. And that unsettling feeling, like someone was watching her.
And then, a name surfaced in her mind.
Chief Leon.
Her grip on the bread tightened slightly. Her eyes narrowed.
"Everything started after I met him."
Coincidence? Or something more?
Siaara had never been the type to believe in mere chance. And yet, the pattern was undeniable. Ever since Leon had stepped into her life, strange things had started happening.
"Is this all because of him?"
She finished the last bite of bread absentmindedly, her mind now solely focused on him.
The first time she had seen Leon, something had felt... off.
Unlike anyone else, he hadn't looked at her, he had seen her. As if he knew something about her that even she didn't.
And last night? That wasn't a normal occurrence.
"I need to keep an eye on him."
Until now, she had seen Leon as a mystery. But now, he was something else. Now, he was a suspect.
After a while, Siaara shifted her focus back to her café, pushing aside her thoughts and immersing herself in work.
The afternoon was at its peak. The café buzzed with activity, the soft clatter of cups and hushed conversations filling the air.
Standing by the counter, Siaara was taking orders, but her mind was still tangled in the strange events of the morning.
The door swung open.
A cold breeze slipped in, carrying with it the presence of a stranger.
Tall. Dressed in a dark jacket. Eyes deep, unreadable. There was something about the way he moved, calm, assured, as if nothing in this world could shake him.
But the most unsettling thing about him was his smile.
Subtle. Crooked. Almost as if he could see right through anyone who dared meet his gaze.
Siaara composed herself and greeted him with a polite smile.
"Welcome, sir. How can I help you?"
The stranger looked at her.
No response. Just silence. A quiet intensity in his gaze. An unspoken secret behind that faint, knowing smile.
A few seconds passed before he gave a small nod and, without uttering a word, walked toward the farthest table in the café and sat down.
Siaara blinked. Something about him felt... off.
"Who is he?"
There was an unsettling familiarity in the way he carried himself, in the way his presence made the air feel heavier. It was as if she had seen him before... but when?
Her grip on the counter tightened.
"I should check."
Focusing, she attempted to use her magic.
But the moment she tried, "...Power... Friend... Prince..."
A whisper. Faint. Incomplete. Echoing in her mind like a distant memory.
Siaara stiffened.
"What... was that?"
A sharp sting pricked at her temple, like someone had forcefully pushed a foreign thought into her head.
Her breath hitched.
"Why is my magic acting strange?"
First, it hadn't worked on Leon. And now, this man?
"Did Leon take my powers?" Her gaze darted toward the kitchen.
Leon was still there, focused on his work.
