Chapter 111: Blood Disaster

Gray Rock Fortress.

The night was bathed in bright moonlight breaking through the clouds.

Since its establishment, this fortress was now experiencing the largest war in its lifetime.

"Screech!"

A sharp sound constantly echoed from the sky.

Massive black bats descended from above, larger than a normal human, with giant claws beneath them.

In the instant they swooped down to attack.

A soldier wielding a long spear to stab at the air was fiercely pulled by a claw.

"Ahhhh!" With a scream, he fell from the city wall, landing into a swarm of Ghouls below.

In a flash, he was submerged, vanishing without a trace.

"Free fire! Shoot down those damned bats!" an officer shouted loudly.

He grabbed a nearby throwing spear and hurled it fiercely into the sky.

The throwing spear pierced through a bat's body, striking it down.

"Whoosh! Whoosh! …"

The sound of arrows cutting through the air was continuous, with some bats managing to dodge, while others were hit but not killed.

Despite the bright moonlight casting its glow from the sky and torches lighting the surroundings, it was still night.

For them, the giant bats flitting through the sky were difficult to aim at.

"They're climbing up!" shouted a soldier, forcefully bashing a climbing Ghoul down with his shield.

With a swift reverse slash, he cut down another Ghoul that had climbed up.

One Ghoul after another used their strong, sharp claws to grip the crevices in the walls, quickly climbing toward the city wall.

The soldiers along the edge of the city wall continuously attacked below with shields, greatswords, and long spears, swiftly clearing away the Ghouls trying to ascend the city wall.

However, the giant bats in the sky occasionally descended, dragging and attacking the soldiers—creating intense psychological pressure on them.

"Oh Holy Light! Shine!"

A soft female voice came from the rear of the fortress.

A gentle, pure light rose into the sky, its gentle radiance instantly illuminating the entire fortress.

The gentle light seemed to warm people's hearts.

Countless Warriors, scared or oppressed by the situation, suddenly felt courage surge within them.

Their fear was diminished.

The soft light also illuminated the battle in front of the fortress, driving away the darkness.

The archers on the city walls, under the glow of the Holy Light, could aim more precisely at their enemies, making it easier for their attacks to hit targets.

Immediately, many bats were struck and began to fall like raindrops.

"Bang!"

A loud boom echoed.

A massive object was thrown from afar, arcing towards the rear of the city wall.

The immense force instantly smashed a hole in the ceiling of a fortress building.

Before anyone could react, a variety of Ghouls leapt from the rubble of the building.

It was clear that many Ghouls bore marks of being hit or crushed.

The ball of flesh thrown over like a cannonball turned out to be a bunch of Ghouls.

The Ghouls began launching indiscriminate attacks on the surroundings immediately after emerging.

"What is that! How did they get in!"

Some soldiers, unprepared, were knocked to the ground by the charging Ghouls.

Fortunately, nearby soldiers were quick and sliced off the Ghouls' heads with their blades.

Despite the sudden attack, the number of Ghouls was not large, and their assault raised the alertness of those around.

Soon, the soldiers on the ground cleared out these Ghouls.

"Damn, how did they get in?"

Before he could find an answer, a sound above made him look up instinctively.

A ball of flesh slammed onto him, and when these balls of flesh scattered, some Ghouls had parts of that soldier's corpse in their mouths.

The Ghoul artillery created chaos in the rear.

The surviving bats in the sky began to retreat after suffering heavy casualties following another screech.

With the air units departing, numerous ranged units were freed.

A large number of arrows began providing support in the surroundings—true to the Fantasy World, the soldiers, skilled in archery, shot their arrows with uncanny precision.

Their attacks almost invariably hit their targets, at the very least striking the enemies' bodies.

With the archers' help, both the Ghoul bombs launched into the rear and the Ghouls climbing the walls to storm the fortress found it increasingly difficult to advance.

After leaving a heap of Ghoul corpses, the remaining Ghouls also began to retreat, while none bothered with those thrown inside the fortress—they had long since turned into corpses.

A few slightly injured soldiers were hurriedly carrying some severely wounded soldiers away.

"Priest!" they shouted.

Carrying the wounded into the innermost medical district of the fortress.

"Leave it to me. You, handle their injuries," a Priest said, hoisting the severely injured inside.

A much younger-looking Priest beside him began treating the moderately injured soldiers.

"Truly monstrous, which country is using Alchemy Monsters like this as cannon fodder? It's disgraceful," a Holy Knight angrily struck his sword, speaking furiously.
