The Girl Who Hacked The Magic System

Chapter 179 - Heroes

The godly rules.

First, one should never willingly abandon the post assigned to them. In my case, it's about being the repository of hopes and compassion of all people in the continent.

Second, one should never invade a world ruled by another god. Though one is allowed to take over a world without a ruler. This law doesn't apply to native gods being born in that same world, like in my case.

Third, no god should ever interfere in the course of history of the original world. Whatever that original world might be.

Fourth, all disputes between gods shall be arbitrated by the council of twelve, which is in turn ruled by Ain. The council of twelve refers to the twelve gods that circle Ain's statue.

Finally, no conflict is allowed within the boundaries of this sea of statues. This place is a sanctuary, and any god who attacks others within it will be severely punished.

These are the rules I contracted with the moment I became a god. The rules I must abide by and the implied hierarchy that leaves no doubts about who rules over the world of gods.

Ain taught me several other things as well.

For instance, that the place I came to first, the one through which I reached here, is actually my own divine temple, and that it reflects my own nature.

It's empty because I still have no astral servants nor any form of being helping me. It's very common for godly beings to enlist angels, demons, elementals, and all sorts of beings to help with the divine duties.

Also, now that my 'core' or 'true body' is inside that statue, the body I have down there is not my actual body anymore. It is just an 'avatar' or something like that. A projection that was still unconscious and automatic.

Apparently my mind hadn't gotten used to the idea of being a god yet, so it projected the avatar automatically, simply because I expected to have a physical body.

And my consciousness was being dragged back to my divine temple simply because I was supposed to be there, performing my duties as a goddess.

It wasn't a trial or anything. Nor a tuto-whatever area like Aurea suggested. It's just my new home.

Most gods don't leave an avatar in the mortal world. It's too much hassle and spent energy to sustain a form that won't blow the minds of mortals.

But I shall leave my avatar there, for now. In this moment of war and uncertainty, my physical presence serves as a beacon of hope and reassurance.

"Ain… I have one last question. Do you know where the other goddess from my world, Juno, is?"

"She disappeared years ago but hasn't died. I noticed her disappearance but didn't know about her whereabouts until very recently. She is coming back to your world and must be arriving at any moment now."

"Didn't she break the first rule?"

"Well, it's yet to be seen if it was a willing absence or not. The timing of her return bodes badly for her, though. Don't worry."

In a very opulent and lavish palace, the owner of the house returns from a very long and arduous journey.

"Master!"

"Master!"

"Master!"

Three girls kneel and bow in reverence at the owner's arrival, their bodies trembling with fear of reproach for the state of their owner's most prized possession.

The three girls show a surreal, otherworldly beauty. They all look like they're in their late teens and wear purple togas in a way that reveals a little too much of their bodies.

The woman with dark brown hair and deep blue eyes ignores them and enters the place without ceremony.

The very first room of the palace is, of course, the throne room. The woman enters it and goes straight to her throne, where she sits.

"Well. Who is going to begin with the sad excuses?"

The three girls shiver in fear.

:::

Yumegami Nakata was just a simple high school student, fiercely preparing herself for the university entrance exams. In her free time, she practiced kenjutsu, archery, and kenbu, the traditional japanese sword dancing.

She was the only daughter of a very conservative japanese family, and started her training at the age of five in all three activities.

She was walking to the school exit, on the way to go to the training grounds, when her world suddenly changed forever.

Or, in a better way to put it, she travelled to another world.

She didn't witness the tear in the fabric of space-time, nor the resulting explosion that decimated the whole school.

Next thing she knew, she was in a luxurious hall, with walls ornamented with gold and several tapestries embroidered with precious gems.

Together with her, there were two others. One with very noticeable European features, a blond young man with a mohawk and punk attire.

The third person was a black woman, but she doesn't seem to be African. Maybe afro-american? Nakata wasn't sure.

But the biggest wonder was in front of them. A throne of marble and silk, where a woman was sitting, looking down at them with a judging gaze.

It was a beautiful woman, though not as beautiful as the three younger ones that are at her side. Even so, she had the strongest presence, and if the fact that she was on the throne was not obvious enough, the submissive way of the other three made it clear who was in charge.

"So, you're the best that the summoning spell could bring. That's rather disappointing."

The woman's voice was powerful and vibrated through every fiber of Nakata's being. And she knew that the other two had the same reaction.

This is what divinity is like. This is a true goddess. That's what her voice and her presence seemed to convey.

But the words of disappointment ached in everyone's hearts. All of them wanted to be useful, to prove their worth to that goddess.

"Whatever. It is what it is. You three, I summoned you to this world to give you a mission. The humans are facing extermination at the hands of the dragonkin and of a demonic cult. You're here to wipe both out."

The goddess stands from her throne and slowly walks the steps down to the newcomers.

"I will grant you powers and the ability to speak the local languages. Where you'll arrive, you will be treated as heroes, and my Church and the kingdoms will make sure all your needs and wants are met."

As she arrives at the same level as the heroes, she stops.

"I know it's a bit sudden, and I'm basically throwing you to put out the fires my mistakes have created. But rest assured that you will be compensated more than fairly. Love, power, money—everything your hearts desire will be yours, as long as you win this war for me."

The cold and judgmental tone was gone from her voice, being replaced by a warm and comforting smile that didn't reach her eyes.

"Will you help me save humanity in this world, heroes from afar?"

She extends her hand to them, theatrically.

"Yes, I will."

Nakata was the first to take her hand, without hesitation.
