The Golden Age of Basketball

Chapter 5: Old Age_2

After the championship ring presentation ceremony ended, Old Tang shook Gan Guoyang's hand and said, "Sonny, give my suggestion some good thought, and explore new fields~"

"I will consider it, but right now... right now I need to focus on playing basketball well."

The last time in New York at a charity gala with Michael Jackson, Tang Jianguo gave Gan Guoyang an investment suggestion.

He said that there will be an official launch of a free fighting league in 1993, and they are in great need of investment and endorsement, and Ah Gan is absolutely the best choice.

Ah Gan has ample funds to invest, and he would become the best image ambassador for promoting free fighting; his wrestling, boxing shots are still classic learning footage in the fighting world.

Regarding the boss's suggestion, Gan Guoyang found it hard to refuse directly, but he was not interested in venturing into sports industries unrelated to basketball.

The main reason he trained in wrestling and boxing was to improve his basketball skills, not to really fight against others.

Although he indeed has a high talent for fighting, with his status, it's unsuitable for him to compete with anyone in the ring.

So, Gan Guoyang could only brush it off with a laugh, he didn't expect Old Tang to keep bringing it up, even at the opening match.

It was certain that Old Tang was definitely also involved. Gan Guoyang found out that the initiator of this free fighting league was called Art Davie.

Art Davie had studied at the New York Military Academy before serving in the army, and Tang Jianguo was Davie's classmate at the military academy, the two lived together for a term.

Apart from free fighting, Old Tang wanted to pull Gan Guoyang into various businesses of his own, real estate, hotels, film, tourism, casinos, and so forth.

On one side, Gan Guoyang's abundant wealth would be a powerful support for Old Tang, on the other, Gan Guoyang's fame and popularity would benefit any of his businesses.

Gan Guoyang showed a cautious attitude towards this, currently, his biggest investment industry is still the funeral industry, his funeral company is gradually becoming a nationwide giant.

Meanwhile, after the Olympic Games ended, Gan Guoyang decided to acquire enough shares from Avia to spin off the Skyscraper brand and receive dividends every year.

These two businesses alone are enough to make him worry-free for life, and his wealth would continuously flow into his personal account with societal development and production cycles, never having to worry about money.

In other fields, in the treacherous capital market, risks won't care if you're the Basketball God, and could swallow you up at any time, so Gan Guoyang will be very careful, extremely careful.

Focus has always been Gan Guoyang's strength, but not everyone has such a level of focus, especially after achieving great success.

Aside from Old Tang, even Bobby Berman, who said he was "married to basketball," has started to shift his affections.

Tonight, the opponent for the Trail Blazers is the Denver Nuggets. The opponent's strength isn't strong, but the Trail Blazers are plagued by injuries, with only one of the five core starters, Gan Guoyang, able to play.

Porter, Kossie, Sabonis, and Lewis are all sitting out, the Trail Blazers could only deploy a Plan B lineup.

Before going on, Bobby Berman kept adjusting his breathing, he looked extremely nervous.

Gan Guoyang was tying his shoelaces and said to Berman, "Bobby, are you sure you want to do this?"

Berman looked at Gan Guoyang and said, "I think I must be crazy, hurry and stop me."

"I think it's difficult; I can't stop you from heading towards happiness."

"Are you sure it's happiness? You said that I'm heading towards the abyss, didn't you?"

"I did say that, but a person's destiny can only be decided by themselves, especially something like marriage."

That's right, tonight Berman decided to propose to his new girlfriend, during halftime.

During the summer when he led the Dream Team to Spain for the competition, Berman met a Catalonian girl 20 years younger than him.

The two quickly fell in love; this passionate, sexy Spanish girl had Berman utterly smitten. She followed Berman back to America.

After a brief courtship, Berman was like a burning old house, uncontainable, deciding to propose to his girlfriend on the first day of the season.

The entire Trail Blazers were certainly welcoming of such a joyous occasion, and the Rose Garden Arena was already prepared to give their championship coach a perfect proposal ceremony.

Of course, Gan Guoyang was happy for Berman, but having known Berman for so many years, they were no longer merely coach-player, nor just good friends, or even brothers.

They shared a deep connection, and Gan Guoyang instinctively worried about Berman, as marriages like this often don't have good outcomes.

In America, there are simply too many cases of people ending up with nothing in the end.

Nonetheless, Gan Guoyang also believed in Berman's judgment and wished them a happy life together.

But when Berman did it, deep down inside, Gan Guoyang felt a trace of loss, realizing there was one less person willing to pursue championship titles single-mindedly with him.

Yet he couldn't blame Berman, couldn't blame Old Tang, couldn't blame any hard-working employee of the Trail Blazers, they all did exceptionally well.

To keep rising, to keep moving forward, the people around him would only become fewer and fewer, more and more solitary.

The game started punctually at 7:30 PM, and compared to the injury-plagued Trail Blazers, the Denver Nuggets appeared to be full of vitality.

This summer, the Denver Nuggets underwent significant changes.
