The Greece Antagonist
Chapter 65: Come on, payment in kind!
Seeing the silence fall over the gathering, Luo En nodded silently within his heart. Under the attentive gazes of the gods, he walked into the Temple and took his seat at Hestia's place.
Queen Hera and Artemis, as if nothing were out of the ordinary, stepped forward quickly, seizing the positions to his left and right, sandwiching Luo En like a cream biscuit.
Watching the two's practiced movements, Athena, who was following right behind Luo En into the hall, couldn't help but scowl with annoyance simmering in her heart.
After all, weren't we partners who worked together in the Great Temple? Why had the small boat of friendship capsized so abruptly?
Not even bothering with pretenses, huh?
Fortunately, the Goddess of Wisdom still possessed a fervent zeal for her work. After only a brief spell of grumbling, she took her own designated seat and began ushering the present gods to their places.
Since it was a battle between the New Gods and the Old Gods, the Twelve Olympians were naturally all on the invitation list.
Aside from Luo En, Athena, Hera, and Artemis, the Agriculture God Demeter, the God of Light Apollo, the God of Fire Hephaestus, the God of Love Aphrodite, and the God of Speed Hermes—five of the chief gods—had also made their official appearances.
The Sea God Poseidon had not shown himself, as Prince Triton was attending in his stead;
Zeus had refused to cooperate, with the Goddess of Memory Mnemosyne, one of the Twelve Titans, filling in;
And since Ares, the God of War, was absent for some reason, his divine position was left vacant, with King Admetos from Thessaly staying as an observer by exception.
After all, Thessaly was a key target of the Giant Spirit Clan's assault, and the city was amassing a considerable number of Divine Blood Heroes; it seemed only fair to listen to the suggestions from these City Defenders and grant them a certain level of influence.
Originally, there was a more suitable candidate for this seat—the widely-acclaimed great hero of Greece, Hercules.
However, in the recent battle against the giants, not once did this future God of Strength appear, even when Thessaly was on the brink of falling.
As all twelve attendees took their seats, Athena waved her hand to activate the Authority of the "Labyrinth", moving all unrelated and miscellaneous people out of the great hall, and clapped her hands to declare the opening of the Divine Authority meeting.
"Ladies and gentlemen, regarding our defense against the invasion of the Old Gods, please share your opinions."
Apollo was the first to speak, "Sparta is implementing a strategy of elite soldiers, which limits the forces we can draw upon, and we also need to counter threats from the sea..."
"Typhon comes from the Sea of Chaos, which has nothing to do with us." Triton, speaking on behalf of Poseidon, initially passed the buck, but after glancing at King Admetos from Thessaly, he added in a low voice, "Moreover, matters of the land are not under the jurisdiction of the Sea God Temple..."
Hermes' expression flickered with hesitation as he spoke, "I've just taken over Corinth, and haven't done much for its defense yet..."
Hephaestus, the honest one, couldn't help but snort upon hearing others' evasions, "Then, I'll just be responsible for Sicily and the volcanic archipelago off the coast of Occhanos..."
Seeing several chief gods express their stances one after another, Athena and Luo En exchanged a glance, the irony apparent in their eyes.
As expected, ever since the battle at Olympus, these chief gods had grown wilder without Zeus looming over them; even in the face of a full-scale assault by the Old Gods, they sought only to protect their own territories and were reluctant to be truly subject to anyone else.
However, how could this attitude of only clearing their own snow, without regard to the frost on others' roofs, stand against the united Old Gods' coalition?
Bang!
Hera slammed her hand on the table and stood up, her dignified face tinged with a murderous aura.
"What time do you think it is to still be thinking of only yourself? Do you want your Sacred Garden to become the next Golden Apple Sacred Garden, or do you want to become the next me?"
Upon hearing this, the gods' expressions tightened, and a profound gloom filled their eyes.
It couldn't be denied that, joined as one, Demon Ancestor Typhon and the Divine King Kronos had the brute force to easily sweep through most of Greece; if they chose to fight alone, they would not stand a chance against those ancient beings, even with their Sanctuaries and Temple blessings, and would merely be easily crushed and picked off one by one.
"No matter what decisions you make, I and all the city-states under my command will follow the strategic arrangements of War God Mountain!"
After speaking, Hera sat down with a cold face. She seemed dissatisfied with the other gods' selfishness, yet covertly sent a subtle and enticing glance to her secret lover.
Feeling the heat in that gaze, Luo En's scalp tingled, and his kidneys began to tremble slightly.
Great, looks like I'll probably have to work overtime tonight.
"I will too! Whether it's the elite forces of Arcadia or the warriors of the Amazons, we stand ready to heed War God Mountain's commands!"
Artemis on the other side also quickly stood to express her stance. Her words were aimed at Athena, but her glance couldn't help but veer toward a certain someone beside her.
"After all, without the support from the God of Wine, Arcadia would have fallen long ago under the Beast Tide set in motion by Typhon."
Listening to the ostensibly grand words of thanks, Luo En felt his kidneys vibrating even more fiercely.
Yep, a double shift tonight...
"Count me in as well; if necessary, I will strive to marshal any able forces from my Holy Land to comply with the arrangements of War God Mountain. In return, War God Mountain should also offer assistance to my Holy Land in times of peril to face the enemy together."
Another figure stood up from his seat, promptly making his position known.
Hearing the justifiable appeal, Luo En nodded slightly, and then, seeing the handsome face of Apollo, inexplicably felt a tightening sensation.
Surely he wouldn't have to work overtime for this, right?
At this moment, seeing Queen Hera, who once held half the sway over Olympus, along with the combat-capable Artemis and the Apollo siblings all aligning with War God Mountain, the remaining chief gods also began to declare their support in turn.
