Chapter 60: Chapter 60

The waitress gasped and quickly covered her mouth, her eyes wide in disbelief.

This restaurant had a long and varied menu.

And each dish wasn't cheap.

She glanced at the pair in front of her—a young girl and a teenage boy—and couldn't help but wonder: Can they even finish all this?

Still, she maintained her professional smile and gently reminded them:

"Just so you're aware, the portions here are quite generous. Would you like to reconsider the order?"

Before Yoruha could say anything, Anko slapped the table with a cheerful grin.

"No need to think twice! For someone with my appetite, that's child's play."

She turned to glance at Yoruha, raising an eyebrow with suspicion.

"But hey, kid—are you sure you've got enough on you? You're not planning to pull a fast one on me, are you?"

Order a feast, eat till you burst, then play the poor-kid card and hope your teacher covers the bill?

She'd seen it before.

And she wasn't falling for that trick.

Yoruha shrugged casually and reached into his pocket. He pulled out a thick roll of bills—100,000 ryō in cold, hard cash—and placed it on the table.

"Relax. Money's not a problem. If that's not enough, we'll just order more."

Tsk tsk tsk.

"Money's not a problem," he says…

Do rich kids even speak the same language as the rest of us?

But still… those words stirred something in Anko. She suddenly felt a strange sense of satisfaction.

Maybe… taking this kid on as her student wasn't such a bad move after all.

Soon after, plate after plate began arriving at the table.

Yoruha picked at his food with mild interest, just sampling here and there.

But Anko?

She devoured everything in sight with unrestrained joy, like a leaf caught in the wind, swirling from one flavor to the next.

"Okay, that's enough," Yoruha said finally, shaking his head as she reached for yet another helping. "I only ordered this much so you could taste a little bit of everything—not clean out the entire menu. You're going to get fat if you keep this up."

He watched her and sighed.

No wonder she ends up gaining weight in the future.

"It's fine, it's fine!" Anko replied, waving him off between bites. "It's just a little indulgence now and then. Most of the time I eat alone, so I don't end up ordering much."

As she spoke, she grabbed a brightly colored five-flavor dango skewer and popped the whole thing into her mouth.

Yoruha looked at her thoughtfully.

So she usually eats alone, huh…

Now he got it.

Anko hadn't fully escaped the shadow of Orochimaru.

She may act bold and brash, but deep down, she didn't have many close friends. She kept people at arm's length.

But after the events of the Boruto era…

Once Orochimaru had been publicly redeemed and the village became more peaceful…

Anko finally let herself relax. Completely.

Too much, in fact.

Is it really unavoidable? Yoruha thought with a sigh. Is Anko fated to become a walking tragedy—just… plumper?

Surely, he could do something to change that outcome.

Just as that thought crossed his mind, he heard footsteps from behind.

"Hey, Hinata—isn't that Yoruha?"

He turned around and spotted Hinata and her new squad walking in.

A smile touched his lips.

"Looks like your test went well. Celebrating already? Come join us—it's on me."

Anko nearly choked on her dango.

Being from a wealthy clan really did make a difference.

Spending money like this… it didn't seem to hurt at all.

Not like her.

Even though she earned decently from missions, she had to be careful about how she spent every coin.

"It's Yoruha-kun and Anko-sensei," said Kurenai, smiling warmly as she led her students over. "We'll join you."

"Congrats, Hinata," Yoruha said as he waved over the waitress again and ordered another full round. Then he turned and gently took Hinata's hand. "From today onward, you're a real ninja."

Hinata's cheeks flushed as she beamed up at him.

"Thank you, Yoruha. I'll do my best to keep up with you."

"Don't push yourself too hard," he said, ruffling her hair gently. "I'll be there to protect you."

"Oi, oi, oi—enough already!" Anko blurted out, caught off guard by the sudden wave of romantic sweetness. "You're both way too young to be laying it on this thick! What are you gonna do when you're actually older, huh?"

She stabbed another dango grumpily and shoved it in her mouth.

Somehow, it didn't taste quite as good anymore.
