Chapter 114: Team Synergy
"So, why are we going on a random quest? I thought we were going to track down the human traffickers." Kyana grumbled as the six of them rode in Kai's carriage.
The girls had completed their shopping late last night, getting everything they needed and wanted. Kyana decked herself out with a multitude of arrows that had different properties, such as poison, explosives, and so on. She even bought an outfit that greatly matched her fighting style, which was obvious because an archer assassin wearing heavy armor would be really stupid.
Nadya also purchased armor that matched her fighting style. Although she was a defensive mage, she was able to increase her strength using buffs and enchantments, so she bought a mace as a weapon, to Kai's surprise. Her armor, though, was barely armor. It was the typical loose cleric clothing that you would see in a video game that shows off a woman's curves, legs, and cleavage.
Kai didn't complain, though. He liked the way she looked and had no problem with it whatsoever.
"We can't just tackle a quest of that caliber without training with each other. Team Synergy! Have you ever heard that word before? The best groups work well together because they have synergy." Kai explained.
"Well, yeah, I get it, but is that necessary?"
"Is that necessary? Are you mad?" Kai recalled playing MMOs back on Earth and the synergy he had when playing with his Guildmates. That was some of the most fun he has ever had, so hearing that Kyana didn't think synergy was necessary really made his inner gamer upset.
"Of course it is! Knowing how to fight with your team is super important! You should know this already. Not only that, you are able to do cool combo attacks, have each other's backs, and look badass while doing it! We need synergy!"
He was so passionate about what he was saying that he didn't even notice when he stood up and started speaking as if he were at a rally to boost people's morale.
"Okay, okay, I get it. Calm down."
When Kai was about to speak again, Amaya interrupted him.
"So, what are we killing today? Is it a big monster? Please say it's a big monster! I really wanna fight a Yeti again!"
Kai hadn't told the quest he took to keep it a surprise, so they were going in blind. This was to better help them with their synergy.
"Haha, you'll see. We're almost there. Look, its habitat is right there." Kai pointed.
All the girls turned to look where he pointed, and froze. While they didn't know where they were, they knew what monster had a habitat like this, and it was no weak monster.
"A-Are we fighting a manticore?!" Gwen asked, looking at Kai nervously.
He smirked. "That's right. The strongest A-Rank monster. Well, one of the strongest. Top three. Okay, it's number five, but it's still strong. Anyway, gear up, go over there, and you all fight that monster together."
As everyone exited the carriage, Sasha pulled out her shield, but then caught on to what Kai had said.
"Wait, what do you mean, 'you all fight that monster together'?" She asked, looking at Kai suspiciously.
"Ha, you got me." He raised his hands in defeat. "I'm not going to be helping you. This is a task for the five of you. If I have to step in, then no sex for a month."
"The fuck?! That's not fair!" Amaya complained
"Yeah, that's going too far. I usually don't agree with the cat, but this is just cruel!" Gwen agreed.
Sasha nodded, understanding why the others were so against Kai's punishment. "T-That is pretty messed up, not gonna lie."
Kyana and Nadya just looked at each other, not understanding why sex was such a big deal. They never expierenced Kai's meat sword, so they didn't know how good it was to be dominated by him.
"Nothing you say will change my mind. The manticore is coming. Better get ready." He smiled.
"Fucking bastard," Amaya grumbled, drawing her sword. "Just you wait, I'll suck you so hard that your soul will leave your body."
The five of them unknowingly positioned themselves in the ideal Party formation.
Sasha was at the front, her shield and hammer at the ready. Not only was she a tank, but the strongest one of them, so her role was crucial.
Amaya was behind her, slightly to the right. While Sasha would defend, she would attack, being given the perfect opportunities to do so because of her angle.
Gwen was behind Sasha to her left, her staff ready and a fire spell already prepared. She could afford to be close because she was also good at close-quarters combat.
Next was Nadya. She was in the middle, able to cast healing, buffing, and enchantment spells to all of her teammates.
And finally, Kyana was in the back, her bow already notched with an arrow to support Amaya from afar.
'Fuck, just look at them! It makes me want to cry. They look so amazing! This is a Party right here!'
The manticore's large paws shook the earth, each step cracking the ground and its sharp claws tearing into it. Green liquid dripped from its mouth as it growled lowly, and its bat-like wings extended, a fear tactic it used to scare its prey before retracing. Its large scorpion tail arched over its back, preparing to stab the group of people approaching it.
'Damn! Look at it! That's hardcore!'
"Let 'em have it!" Kai cheered them on.
"Are you all ready?" Sasha asked.
"Yeah!" They all responded.
Since they were all in position, they simply entered their battle stance and prepared to attack the monster.
The manticore opened its maw and bellowed at the top of its lungs.
"CAW CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!"
"Get ready, girls! It's about to attack!" Sasha shouted.
"Right!"
Kai's face twitched. His eyelids struggled to close completely, and an anger he hadn't felt in a while started to surge in his body.
'I swear to fucking god if they don't kill that stupid ass monster in five seconds I'll kill it myself!'
He thought he was long gone from the animals that make the wrong sounds, but he thought wrong.
