Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Nutman Elbay
The notebook contained intelligence on hundreds of pirates. Among them, only eight stood out to Mobin—those with bounties exceeding 30 million belli.
This list included Kazt, the captain of the Sharp Bull Pirates and a Zoan Devil Fruit user, as well as Lafayette, known as the "Demon Sheriff."
Kazt often frequented Mad Hat Town, so Sunny had detailed information about him.
On the other hand, Lafayette rarely visited, leaving Sunny with only scant details about him, consisting of a few lines about his name and bounty—likely gleaned from newspapers.
But among these formidable figures, one individual surprised Mobin the most—the only female pirate on the list.
Nutman Elbay, infamous as the "Heartbreaker," carried a bounty of 38 million belli.
What does 38 million signify? On the Grand Line, it might not amount to much, but in the West Blue, it was a different story.
For context, the average bounty of East Blue pirates hovered around 3 million belli.
That alone spoke volumes.
Sunny's notes on Elbay were sparse, detailing only her appearance—fair skin, striking beauty, and lips as fiery as flame.
Her combat abilities revolved around her mastery of the rapier, a slender, lightweight sword designed solely for thrusting.
Mobin's gaze swept over the tall woman's flame-red lips, her toned, flat stomach, and the rapier elegantly holstered at her waist.
The growing quiet in the tavern left little doubt in Mobin's mind. The woman who had just entered and instantly commanded attention was likely Nutman Elbay herself.
In the pirate world, a bounty symbolized reputation and strength.
The higher the bounty, the greater the fame and prestige—explaining why pirates of Elbay and Lafayette's caliber turned heads upon entering any tavern.
This phenomenon, however, wouldn't carry over to the Grand Line, where perceptions drastically shifted.
Elbay's entrance silenced the tavern.
The pirates, previously engrossed in drinking and conversation, stopped what they were doing, their gazes locked on her.
Her long, flowing hair, skin as white as snow, alluring features, tall and curvaceous figure, and her 38-million-belli bounty—all stirred their imaginations.
The perfect woman!
Inexperienced pirates couldn't help but think so.
Mobin observed her quietly.
His eyes, initially focused on the rapier at her waist, shifted slightly upward to her flat, pale stomach exposed to the air.
No visible muscle, no signs of wear from the harsh sea.
Yet, with a bounty that high, her strength must be formidable.
Mobin silently pondered.
There was something he couldn't quite grasp.
How did some of the world's strong female warriors manage to maintain such smooth skin despite long voyages?
And how could slender, seemingly muscleless bodies unleash power rivaling that of muscular men?
If not for Big Mom proving otherwise, Mobin might have felt compelled to delve into the unique qualities of a woman's physique.
Elbay seemed to revel in the attention.
Without lingering at the door, she confidently strode to the tavern's largest table, followed by her robust crew of about ten men and a pure white skunk she held on a leash.
The group occupying the table quickly stood and vacated the space as she approached.
The tavern staff, perceptive and efficient, hurried to clear and reset the table.
In mere moments, the largest table was ready, and Elbay and her crew took their seats, ordering food and drinks.
The pirates who had given up their table quietly retreated.
In the corner, Mobin averted his gaze.
He only dared to observe Elbay for so long because everyone else had their eyes on her.
"Quite the presence."
Mobin murmured under his breath.
Ratsnout glanced at Mobin and lowered his voice.
"Of course. That's Nutman Elbay. In terms of strength, she's decent among West Blue pirates, but her popularity? Absolutely unmatched. Don't be fooled by her beauty—when it comes to killing, she doesn't even blink."
"I can see that."
Mobin nodded, agreeing with Ratsnout's assessment.
Judging by the reactions of the nearby pirates, their eyes were practically falling out of their sockets.
"And, you know, she has a nickname: the Heartbreaker."
Ratsnout leaned closer, his voice dropping further.
"I've heard of it."
"Do you know where it comes from?"
Mobin shook his head.
Ratsnout smirked wickedly, lowering his voice to a whisper:
"Elbay has a thing for handsome young men. If she takes a liking to one, she'll abduct him onto her ship. After that… well, you can imagine."
Ratsnout's expression suggested every man should understand.
But then his tone turned grave, and his face shifted dramatically, as if performing a quick-change opera.
"However, every single one of those young men ends up a broken corpse the next day. That's the real origin of the nickname."
"How brutal."
Mobin was taken aback, struggling to reconcile such cruelty with Elbay's stunning exterior.
"What did you expect? Pirates like her commit all manner of atrocities—pillaging, arson, and murder are second nature."
As Ratsnout spoke, a glint of coldness flashed in his eyes.
Mobin remained silent, acknowledging Ratsnout's explanation.
"Damn it."
Ratsnout's face suddenly paled.
"What's wrong?"
Mobin asked, finding Ratsnout an intriguing companion after their brief exchange.
Ratsnout, visibly nervous, whispered, "I just realized I might be in serious danger."
He quickly pulled out a mirror to check his reflection.
The radiant, handsome face staring back only made him more anxious.
He wasn't about to let Elbay's preferences ruin his chance of befriending Mobin.
"In danger?"
Mobin was puzzled at first but quickly understood, glancing at Ratsnout with a wry smile.
"you're serious about this?"
"Of course…"
Ratsnout hastily put away the mirror, but his words were cut short by a voice from behind.
"You there in the corner, come here."
It was Elbay's voice!
Ratsnout froze.
Taking a deep breath, he gave Mobin a "see, I told you" look before slowly standing, seemingly bracing himself.
Turning, he met Elbay's gaze.
So, she's chosen me…
Damn it! Why did I have to take such a long bath?
Now I'll never get the chance to bond with Mobin.
Ratsnout silently cursed himself, moving toward Elbay's table.
"Hey, you."
Elbay frowned slightly, pointing at Ratsnout.
Ratsnout instinctively nodded.
"Yes, you—move aside!"
"?"
Ratsnout froze.
Under Elbay's sharp gaze, he stiffly stepped aside, revealing Mobin sitting quietly behind him.
Elbay's eyes shifted to Mobin, a spark of interest gleaming in her gaze.
Perhaps it was the contrast with the rugged pirates around him, but she found Mobin's smooth, delicate appearance irresistible—just her type.
Without waiting, Elbay rose and walked toward Mobin.
The other pirates looked at Mobin in silence, their expressions a mix of envy and pity.
Feeling Elbay's gaze, Mobin cursed inwardly.
What is happening here?
Hearing her approaching footsteps, he began calculating his options for escape.
Boom!
Suddenly, a group burst into the tavern.
Leading them was none other than Kazt, the sharp-bull-helmeted captain.
