Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Flower Crown vs. Weed
After lunch in the student council room, Tatsuya headed to the practice room. Unlike morning lectures, practicals were his weakness, and he exuded reluctance—though classmates found it cool, a rumor he never heard.
"So, how'd the council room talk go?" Leo asked during practice.
"Weird turn of events," Tatsuya replied.
"Weird?" Erika pressed.
The task was sending psions through a fixed CAD to move a 30cm cart three round trips. No teachers supervised Class 2, but slacking was noticeable.
"I was suddenly told to join the Disciplinary Committee," Tatsuya said.
"They handle troublemakers, right? Perfect for you, Tatsuya-kun," Erika teased.
"Don't be ridiculous. I'm bad at practicals," Tatsuya countered.
Having cleared the task, they chatted in a corner. Tatsuya knew he was the weakest among the four, though average in class.
"But you could handle rulebreakers without magic," Mizuki said.
"That kick yesterday was insane," Leo added.
"That was my moment…" Erika muttered.
"Erika?" Tatsuya questioned.
"Nothing," she huffed, sulking. Tatsuya let it slide, avoiding her tangents.
"You going back to the council room after school?" Leo asked.
"Yeah, they called me," Tatsuya said.
"Just refuse if it's a hassle," Erika suggested.
"You just said it's perfect for me," Leo shot back.
"Not talking to you!" Erika retorted.
"What?!"
"Stop fighting, both of you!" Mizuki pleaded.
Tatsuya smirked, impressed by their constant bickering.
Miyuki, thrilled to visit the council room with Tatsuya again, showed a subtle excitement only he noticed.
"Miyuki, you seem…" Tatsuya started.
"Yes?" she replied.
"Never mind," he said, masking a smile to avoid troubling her. Miyuki looked puzzled but resumed her cheerful demeanor.
"Excuse us," Tatsuya said at the council room.
"Come in!" Mayumi replied.
The door opened without stating names or affiliations, giving Tatsuya a headache—his escape route seemed blocked.
"Here about my sister's council role and my Disciplinary Committee appointment," Tatsuya said.
"Disciplinary Committee?" a male student reacted, likely the vice president Suzune mentioned.
"Then, Tatsuya-kun, over here," Mari said.
"Wait, Watanabe-senpai," the boy interrupted.
"What, Hattori Gyoubushoujou Hanzou?" Mari teased.
"No full names!" Hattori snapped.
Tatsuya glanced at Mayumi, stunned that "Hanzou" was real. She'd called him "Hanzo-kun," so he vowed to avoid her nicknames.
"What's up, Vice President Hattori?" Mari asked.
"I oppose this Class 2 Weed joining the Disciplinary Committee," Hattori declared.
"Bold, using that term in front of me," Mari said icily.
Tension rose. Tatsuya, sensing Miyuki's reaction, checked on her.
"Insulting Onii-sama… unforgivable," Miyuki seethed.
"Stop, Miyuki!" Tatsuya commanded.
"...Yes!" she relented.
Calming her, Tatsuya sighed in relief, but Miyuki began arguing with Hattori.
"Favoritism shouldn't cloud judgment. Mages must stay calm," Hattori said.
"My judgment's clear! Onii-sama's poor evaluation is due to flawed methods, not his true strength—" Miyuki started.
"Miyuki!" Tatsuya cut her off sharply, protecting their secrets.
She faltered. Ignoring her, Tatsuya faced Hattori. "Hattori-senpai, how about a mock battle?"
"Arrogant for a spare!" Hattori snapped.
Tatsuya, calm but mocking, smirked. "What's funny?" Hattori demanded.
"'Mages must stay calm,' right?" Tatsuya echoed.
Mayumi and Mari stifled laughs behind Hattori.
"I don't care about joining, but I'll prove Miyuki's judgment isn't clouded," Tatsuya said.
"I'll crush you!" Hattori roared.
"Mock battle in 30 minutes, third practice room. CAD use approved," Mayumi declared.
"As Disciplinary Chair, I confirm this isn't a personal fight," Mari added.
The battle was set. Suzune and Azusa, initially anxious, moved eagerly to prepare.
En route to the third practice room, Tatsuya sighed heavily. "Day three, and my facade's already slipping."
"I'm sorry!" Miyuki said.
The issue was Miyuki's "mask" cracking early and Tatsuya being used for image strategy—to boost Class 2's view of the Disciplinary Committee. He'd thought it was just for magic analysis.
"I'm not mad. Like I said at the entrance ceremony, you get angry for me," Tatsuya reassured.
"Onii-sama…" Miyuki blushed, misplaced in the moment.
Tatsuya sighed internally. In the prep room, Mari waited, grinning. "You're surprisingly belligerent."
"Not thrilled to hear that with a smile," Tatsuya replied.
"Is it okay? Hattori's among the school's top five," Mari warned.
"No chance head-on, but I have ways," Tatsuya said, loading a cartridge into his pistol-type CAD. His processing power limited him to specialized CADs, requiring multiple cartridges.
"Let's go," Mari said, leading to the practice room. She found it odd that neither Tatsuya nor Miyuki seemed worried.
"The mock battle between 2-B Hattori Gyoubu and 1-E Shiba Tatsuya begins," Mari announced, explaining rules.
A girl near the wall asked Miyuki, "Hattori's a top second-year. Aren't you worried for your brother?"
"No," Miyuki replied, thinking, (Onii-sama will win instantly.)
Knowing Tatsuya's true strength, Miyuki had absolute faith in his victory.
