Chapter 08: Dragon Valley (8)
Under the shadow of gods and demons on the Keltos Continent, the long history spanning tens of thousands of years is a chronicle of the rise and fall of various races. There is laughter, there are tears of blood, there is humor, there is absurdity... If it were compiled into a symphony, it would undoubtedly be the most richly-noted symphony in the world.
Among these, the main theme has always been power. Power seemed to decide everything.
However, there is no absolute in the world, there are always exceptions.
There are some unconventional beings. They do not possess great power, but they have dreams. Their dreams are splendid and captivating, and their spirit is like a virus that spreads. Those infected by it will embark on this journey without hesitation.
*Letting go of personal desires, yet gaining the entire world.*
They are the light in the hearts of allies, but also the eternal nightmare of their enemies. Even death and destruction cannot strip them from this world. Because, as long as there are people who remember them, they will continue to exist.
*From a certain point of view, they have already surpassed the boundaries of life.*
Clearly, Gray was such a person.
His voice and words simultaneously spread to the mind of every dragon, almost resonating with the collective will of the Dragon Clan. A future concerned not with interests, but with honor and faith, unfolded like a painting. An almost impossible task was being turned into reality, bit by bit, in his hands.
More and more dragons followed him, so much that the cliff had no space left to land, and a large flock could only continue circling in the sky.
All the golden dragons silently watched him.
The questions they asked shifted from initial doubts to verification, and eventually, they carried a hint of longing.
"Respected Lord of Lich King, did you firmly believe you would ultimately achieve victory before the Battle of Salted Fish Port?"
"Actually, I didn't know."
"But you personally unveiled your mask."
"That was because I wanted to face the world openly, that has always been my wish. I wanted to walk under the sunlight, rather than always hiding in the shadows of armor. It was the heaviest burden for me, I had to break free from it. It was my deceit to the world, and my sin, I had to end it."
...
Richie stared blankly at his father.
...
"Did you ever think about embracing Hell when you were cornered? I heard the Demon Lord once offered you his power, but you used the demon's power to uphold your justice."
"I never thought of abandoning my faith, even when I found out my faith was not aligned with the Holy Spirit. That doesn't matter, does it? We believe because faith is right. Why change because of others? As for power, it's merely one means to achieve justice."
...
Catherine watched Gray from afar.
...
"Do you hate demons?"
"No, on the contrary, I thank them. Because of their existence, I learned to cherish justice, they strengthened my resolve."
...
Vivian also watched Gray from afar.
...
"When humans misunderstood you, did you ever hate them?"
"No, never. I chose to understand them, to forgive them. Their misunderstanding of me shows I haven't done enough. Even... In the worst days, there were some who stood by me without complaint. Focusing on the beautiful things, forgetting the unbeautiful, you will discover the scenery."
...
Andrejewitsch quietly watched Gray among the dragons.
...
"At the beginning, how did you establish the knightly spirit as your faith?"
Gray was silent in response to this question.
This time, there were no whispers. The dragons around just extended their necks quietly waiting.
After a long silence, Gray spoke softly,"Because of a novel. The author wove a beautiful knightly dream for me, and I chose to believe in its beauty rather than to ridicule it. Life is always making choices, like I did then, like the Golden Dragon Clan now. If the seeds sown in the beginning had no impurities, then the tree that grows will undoubtedly stand in the sunlight, becoming a scenery. Take the first step bravely, you can share this knightly dream with me."
...
"Liches are creatures of darkness, the Holy Light has a strong destructive power against them. I even once thought it was Heaven's exclusive. But you said to 'walk with the Holy Light,' doesn't it seem strange?"
Gray raised his right hand, the ring on his finger emitted a gentle glow.
At the next moment, a ray of Holy Light descended from the sky, enveloping Gray.
Gray did not evade; instead, he gently removed his helmet, letting himself be completely bathed in the Holy Light. The supposed terrifying skeleton, and thin body, almost merged with the Holy Light. What was displayed, however, was a dazzling sanctity.
It was an absolutely unimaginable scene before.
"Walking with the Holy Light is a right for everyone, regardless of race," Gray said softly.
The dragons let out a roaring dragon cry that shook the heavens. Each dragon bellowed as if to pierce the sky.
