Chapter 27: Chapter 26 - Hollow Purple
The battlefield was pure chaos. I was surrounded by a massive army of lava monsters inside the boss room. The boss stood there, watching me with a look that seemed to say, "You're not getting out of here," or maybe, "Let's see what you've got now!" It was hard to tell. Reading its mind wasn't easy, unlike the other monsters I've faced in regular dungeons or even the Red Gate. With them, the only thing I could pick up from their thoughts was, *Kill the humans.* It was like a voice in my head, something I could hear through my perception. But for the boss, it was different. Sure, I could hear those same violent thoughts, but there were also regular, almost human-like ones mixed in. Like when I read the minds of normal people.
Either way, the only thing that mattered right now was taking him down as fast as possible.
"Looks like your reinforcements are already on their way," the boss said, his tone mocking, as if I needed backup to handle him.
And he wasn't wrong. The Hunter Association had found out about this S-Rank gate inside the city, and they weren't taking any chances. They'd called in a few S-Rank hunters from the Hunters Guild—the ones closest to this location—and they were already trying to break through the magical energy barrier the dungeon boss had set up.
Honestly, my clones could've shattered that barrier in an instant if I'd wanted them to. But I didn't want anyone interrupting my fight. I wanted to take on the dungeon boss alone, so I'd kept my clones outside, waiting.
"Sorry," I said, locking eyes with the boss. "Looks like the intense fight I was hoping for with you isn't going to happen now. I'll have to finish this quickly before they barge in."
His expression shifted from surprise to anger, and then he let out a loud, mocking laugh. "Quickly? You think you can take me down that fast? You're just stalling, trying to waste time until your backup gets here."
I didn't bother responding to his taunts. I didn't have time for that. "Shadow Clone," I whispered, and in an instant, a hundred clones appeared behind me. I'd given each one 5% of my magical energy, which was more than enough for them to wipe out the surrounding soldiers in no time.
"They'll handle the soldiers," I said, and as soon as the words left my mouth, my clones sprang into action. They moved like a blur, taking out the lava soldiers one by one. Within seconds, the number of monsters started dropping fast.
"Now," I said, turning back to the boss, "it's just you and me." I could sense the hunters outside the gate—they were close, really close. They were trying to break through the barrier, and it wouldn't be long before they succeeded. "I was planning on having a proper fight with you, but I guess that's not happening now. So let's finish this."
The boss's eyes narrowed, and I could see the realization dawning on him. He wasn't laughing anymore.
Good. It was time to end this.
The boss's laughter stopped abruptly, replaced by a low growl that rumbled through the room like an earthquake. His eyes burned with fury, and I could feel the heat radiating off him, even from where I stood. The air around him shimmered, warping as if it couldn't handle the sheer intensity of his power.
"You think you're untouchable?" he snarled, his voice dripping with venom. "Let's see how long you last when I stop holding back!"
I didn't respond. I just stood there, hands in my pockets, levitating a few inches off the ground. I wasn't even bothering to move. Why should I? This was supposed to be a challenge, but so far, it was just… boring.
The boss didn't waste any time. He raised his massive, molten arms, and the ceiling above us began to crack. Chunks of rock fell, but before they could hit the ground, they ignited, transforming into massive, fiery meteors. They hurtled toward me, each one the size of a small house, trailing flames and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
I didn't flinch. The meteors crashed into an invisible barrier around me, exploding on impact. The force of the blasts sent shockwaves through the room, shattering the ground and sending debris flying in every direction. A few of his own lava soldiers were caught in the crossfire, reduced to nothing but ash. The boss didn't even seem to notice. His focus was entirely on me.
"Is that all you've got?" I muttered, more to myself than to him. But he heard me.
"You're just getting started!" he roared.
The ground beneath me began to tremble, and then it split open, spewing rivers of molten lava. The fiery liquid surged toward me, swallowing everything in its path. It was like the floor itself had turned into a living, breathing monster, hungry for destruction.
But it didn't matter. The lava reached my barrier and just… stopped. It couldn't touch me. It sizzled and hissed, trying to break through, but it was useless. I sighed, tilting my head slightly as I watched the lava flow around me, forming a perfect circle where I stood.
The boss wasn't done. He raised his hand again, and this time, a massive beam of pure lava shot out from his palm. It was like a laser, cutting through the air with terrifying speed and precision. The beam slammed into my barrier, the force of it shaking the entire room. The heat was intense, enough to melt steel in seconds, but it didn't even make me sweat.
I glanced at the beam, unimpressed. "Really? A laser? That's your big move?"
He didn't answer. Instead, he clenched his other fist, and suddenly, the air around me was filled with lava bullets. Hundreds of them, each one glowing white-hot, zoomed toward me from every direction. They hit my barrier in rapid succession, exploding on impact like tiny fireworks. The noise was deafening, and the room was filled with smoke and ash, but when it cleared, I was still there, completely untouched.
"You're wasting my time," I said, my voice calm but firm. "Is this really the best you can do?"
The boss let out a furious roar, and the entire room erupted in flames. The walls, the floor, even the air itself seemed to catch fire. The temperature skyrocketed, turning the battlefield into a living furnace. His own soldiers screamed as they were consumed by the flames, but the boss didn't care. His eyes were locked on me, burning with hatred.
I floated there, completely unfazed. The flames licked at my barrier, but they couldn't penetrate it. I yawned, stretching my arms slightly as I waited for him to finish.
"Are you done yet?" I asked, my tone bored. "Because if this is all you've got, I'm starting to think I overestimated you."
The boss's face twisted in rage, his molten body trembling with fury. His eyes burned like twin suns, and his voice boomed through the room, shaking the very foundation of the dungeon. "I'LL KILL YOU!" he roared, his words echoing like a death knell. "YOU DARE MOCK ME? YOU DARE STAND THERE LIKE YOU'RE UNTOUCHABLE? I'LL REDUCE YOU TO ASH!"
I sighed, floating there with my hands still in my pockets. "You talk too much," I said, my voice calm but carrying an edge of finality. "But fine. If you want to see what true power looks like, I'll show you."
Slowly, deliberately, I pulled one hand out of my pocket, then the other. The air around me grew heavy, charged with an indescribable energy. My fingers curled slightly, and a faint, purple light began to gather in the space between them. It was subtle at first, a mere flicker, but it grew brighter and more intense with every passing second. The light pulsed like a heartbeat, and the room seemed to hold its breath.
The boss hesitated, his molten form flickering uncertainly. "What… what is that?" he growled, taking a step back despite himself.
I didn't answer. Instead, I whispered six words, so soft they were almost lost in the crackling of flames and the roar of the battlefield.
"Hollow Technique: Purple. Enjoy the end."
The light between my hands surged, condensing into a swirling sphere of pure, radiant purple energy. It was mesmerizing, almost beautiful, but it carried an aura of absolute destruction. The boss's eyes widened in terror as the sphere expanded, the air around it distorting and warping as if reality itself couldn't withstand its power.
Then, with a faint flick of my wrist, I released it.
The Hollow Technique: Purple shot forward like a comet, leaving a trail of violet light in its wake. It moved with impossible speed, cutting through the air with a low, resonating hum that seemed to vibrate in every corner of the room. The boss tried to dodge, tried to raise his molten arms to block it, but it was too late. The technique was already upon him.
For a moment, everything was still. The room was silent, save for the soft hum of the purple energy. The boss stood frozen, his body engulfed in the glowing sphere of light. His expression was one of sheer disbelief, as if he couldn't comprehend what was happening.
And then, with a deafening explosion, the Hollow Technique: Purple unleashed its full power.
The room was consumed in a blinding flash of violet light. The force of the explosion ripped through the battlefield, obliterating everything in its path. The lava soldiers were vaporized instantly, their molten bodies disintegrating into nothingness. The walls of the boss room crumbled, and the ground itself was torn apart, leaving a massive crater in its wake.
When the light finally faded, there was nothing left. The boss was gone, reduced to nothing but ash and smoke. The room was silent, the only sound the faint sizzle of cooling lava.
I lowered my hand, the purple light fading from my fingertips. "Overkill, maybe," I muttered, brushing a speck of dust off my jacket. "But it got the job done."
I floated there for a moment, surveying the destruction. The battlefield was in ruins, but I was untouched, not a single scratch on me. The barrier around me hadn't even flickered.
"Guess that's that," I said, turning to leave, But then I saw the faces of the hunters standing barely inside the room, the hunters stood frozen, their eyes wide with a mix of awe, disbelief, and sheer terror. Their faces were pale, their breaths caught in their throats as they took in the scene before them. The sheer devastation was overwhelming—the crater where the boss room once stood, the scorched walls, the cooling lava, and the absolute silence that now replaced the chaos.
