Chapter 254: King of the Night
The damp smell of coal ash and the sound of hammers filled the night at Black Wind Castle. The stifling air seemed to be suffused with unending coal dregs, causing the Hell Dwarves and goblins passing by to keep their mouths tightly shut, not wanting to say a word.
As night fell, the Magic Crystal Lamp Posts atop the factory gradually extinguished, leaving only the thick smoke spewing from the chimneys rolling across the city's sky.
It's true that the Underworld has some air circulation, but it certainly doesn't compare to the surface. If you want to develop industry here, you inevitably have to pay some price.
But fortunately, for the Hell Dwarves who have long lived near volcanoes, this is nothing. Nor is it anything for the goblins whose product shelf life is not long.
Thanks to their dedication, Black Wind Castle operates like an ever-awake iron giant, unceasingly running in the sunless underground, bringing nightmares and death to the humans on the front lines.
The Hell Dwarf sentry on the city wall yawned in boredom, shouldering his Magic Stone Gun, completely oblivious to the cold smile passing by in his shadow, silently merging into the massive, sunken factory.
Too weak.
Perhaps because of its proximity to the Demon City, the guards stationed here had not the slightest vigilance. The lax patrol frequency and bare walls were almost tantamount to an undefended state.
Lurking in the shadows, Zakro smirked as his sinister gaze fell on the Lord's Mansion near the center of Black Wind Castle.
The black robe wrapped tightly around his lean and strong body, the brim of the hat pulled low to hide the scarlet pupils, yet unable to conceal the ferocity emanating from within.
From what he understood, that was the only home Luo Yan had in the Demon City.
"Hehehe... Luo Yan, did you know? Your biggest mistake was not making an enemy of the Dragon family, but offending a much more powerful adversary who has nothing left to lose."
"I'll kill you slowly... slowly... hahahaha..."
Zakro's smile grew increasingly grotesque, nearly unable to contain the spread of murderous intent as he imagined his adversary's face twisted in pain.
He moved quietly, hugging the shadows of the buildings, like a ghost lurking under the dark night.
As for those fully armed guards, he paid them no mind at all. Those Magic Stone Guns and firearms were only enough to frighten ordinary people; there was no one here who could pose a threat to him.
As for the mere Silver Level Demon King, he wasn't even worth mentioning.
Even if Night Song died here, Zakro had no concern in his heart.
After all, that guy was just a Platinum Level gargoyle, with a whole Diamond level rank between him and the Purple Crystal Level Zakro.
Even if the Demon King brought all the Maze's strongmen here, to him, they were just small fry that he could crush with a flick of his fingers... those guys couldn't even compare to his son Reggie Dragon, let alone to himself?
He had no possibility of losing!
Not a slightest one!
However, just as he was about to strike, he suddenly stopped and retracted his outstretched claw.
Could it be...
Too smooth?
Standing on the rooftop, Zakro stared intently at the heavily guarded Lord's Mansion in the distance, his once confident gaze suddenly becoming uncertain.
According to logic, Luo Yan should be living there. And Moduo's newspapers also mentioned that ever since the plague outbreak at Black Wind Castle, the so-called Demon King who cared about the common demons personally stayed at the Lord's Mansion and even personally treated the goblins tormented by the plague.
But that being said, was the guy's vigilance really this low?
After all, he himself was a Purple Crystal Level Horror Demon, and now wanted and on the run. That guy was so smart, he surely knew he wouldn't let him go.
Were it him, he would at least find a safe place to stay... like the Padric family's manor.
Or at the very least, staying in the temple at the core district of the Demon City would surely be safer than staying in this godforsaken place.
"Close call... almost fell into an ambush!"
Zakro took a deep breath, attempting to calm his agitated emotions while cautiously probing toward the Lord's Mansion with his spiritual power.
However, just as his spiritual power tendrils touched the border of the wall, they halted slightly.
The walls of the Lord's Mansion were reinforced with a barrier!
Zakro's heart sank.
Even though breaking the barrier was as easy as a breath for him, it undoubtedly signaled to the other side that he was nearby!
If Luo Yan were there, fine.
The fear was that guy wasn't there, but rather the Judger troops from the Truth Department stationed there.
While Black Wind Castle's garrison was indeed not worth worrying about, the undead under Goliath were still quite troublesome.
A Diamond Level leader with a few Platinum Level Death Knights, even if they couldn't take him down on the spot, could certainly delay him long enough for the Demon City's strongmen to arrive.
An under-100-kilometer distance, for determined demigod-level powerhouses, was a matter of moments.
Zakro's face turned terribly dark, his teeth almost gritting to dust.
In the past, such trifles were not his concern at all.
He had plenty of pawns to exploit, and those diligent subordinates would naturally help him investigate. He only had to sit quietly behind the scenes, waiting for news... even if he decided to take a deadly shot at Luo Yan, he wouldn't need to act himself; there were still plenty of pawns willing to serve him!
