The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!

Chapter 272: Sacrifice (Part 5)

Of course, maybe the developers chose to favor realism over their moms and deliberately lowered the game's authenticity.

The two took a short rest and then wagged their big tails as they walked toward the city gate of Assam City.

Perhaps their actions were too flashy, or maybe their appearance was too exotic for the locals. Every Lizardman they encountered along the way gaped at them, standing in place as if hit by a Petrification Technique.

Has the NPC memory not loaded yet?

[Teammate Sacrifice] thought to himself, but didn't suspect too much.

They finally reached the city gate.

Just as they were about to speak up, the guard next to them suddenly widened his eyes, gripping his spear tightly. A Lizardman who appeared to be an officer was even more excessive, glaring at them fiercely and shouting.

"Halt! Who are you?"

[Teammate Sacrifice] was startled, quickly raising his hands to show he was not a bad guy.

"Uh, we're travelers, wanting to see inside the city... We mean no harm."

"Travelers?"

What does that mean?

The guard was clearly skeptical, squinting his eyes and sizing them up, especially taking a few extra glances at the crystal on their chests that emitted a faint magic light.

"Which tribe are you from? Why are you sneaking near the Holy City?"

"Tribe? Uh... Geckos?"

The guard's eyes dangerously narrowed.

"What's that?"

"What's that" still works.

The two players exchanged glances, at a loss for how to explain.

It's the developers' choice for names; you ask me, who am I supposed to ask?

Before they came to any conclusion, a group of guards had already surrounded them, obsidian spears pointed right at them. Meanwhile, pedestrians on the street quickly stepped back, and more Armored Dragon Soldiers rushed over, looking like they were facing a formidable enemy.

The two immediately felt uneasy about the situation.

And just as the atmosphere was tense, a Lizardman dressed in a priest's robe walked over from a distance, speaking in a deep voice.

"What's happening here? Why block the road to the city?"

His robe was embroidered with intricate golden patterns, and he held a scepter made of bone, clearly indicating a high status.

The guards, upon seeing him, immediately straightened up and respectfully lowered their weapons and saluted.

"Reporting to Priest Sir, these two Lizardmen seemed suspicious, attempting to sneak into the Holy City. We suspect they are spies from outside."

The priest furrowed his scales, casting a suspicious look at the two Lizardmen at the gate... He indeed had never seen this breed before.

Noticing this shaman's attire, [Teammate Sacrifice] had an idea and quickly put on a devout expression, smiling as he spoke.

"Sir, it's a misunderstanding! We... are pilgrims! We've heard of the Holy Lake's Holy Power, so we came specifically to admire the greatness of the Dragon God!"

As he finished, he nudged his teammate beside him, signaling for him to say something too.

"Ah... yes, yes, that's right!" Understanding his buddy's hint, [Boundless Mana] quickly nodded, drawing a cross on his chest with a devout face, then quickly drew a circle, "We've admired the Dragon God since we were kids, hoping to personally offer our prayers... If we can't, then we can come back another day."

The priest was slightly taken aback, glancing over them as if pondering the credibility of their words.

After a brief pause, he displayed a gentle smile, nodding.

"So, you're pilgrims. There's nothing to worry about. The Dragon God protects all believers; may His glory descend upon you."

He turned to the guards and said calmly.

"Let them in. The gates of the Holy City will not refuse devout believers."

The guards exchanged looks, still slightly skeptical, but since the priest had spoken, they dared not disobey and begrudgingly stepped aside.

[Teammate Sacrifice] and [Boundless Mana] secretly breathed a sigh of relief, nodding and bowing repeatedly to the priest.

"Thank you, Sir!"

"Dragon God bless!"

Listening to their clumsy prayers, the Priest smiled slightly but did not mind, and waved his hand as he spoke.

"No need to be formal, since you've come, join me on the journey to the altar. I will take you to the Dragon God Temple, where you can personally experience the divine grace of the Dragon God."

The two heard this with delight and promptly agreed.

Good heavens.

Not only did they escape danger, but they also found a free guide?

What kind of luck is this!

However...

Isn't this benefit coming too easily?

No time to think further, the Priest had already turned around and began walking towards the Pyramid, leaning on his Scepter.

Feeling the warning gaze from the side, the two Players shot a fierce glare back at the oblivious Guards, then followed behind the Lizardman Priest.

Passing through the bustling capital of the Holy Armor Dragon Kingdom, the prosperous scene before their eyes left them amazed. The abundance of silk hung from the trees, and even the pottery and jars were adorned with shiny Gold.

Watching these two unsophisticated lizards, the Priest smiled slightly, and began to recount the history of the Gana Continent and Assam City.

"...The various tribes on the Ancient Continent coveted the wealth in our hands, so the Dragon God bestowed upon us this rich land, and protected us with the Great Barrier, allowing us to be distanced from the chaos and obtain eternal tranquility under the Dragon God's shelter."

The two Players heard this and subconsciously showed expressions of envy.

"That's pretty awesome."

"I see... So you haven't fought a war in a thousand years?"

The Priest's face showed a trace of displeasure, but more of disdain.

"That's not entirely correct. Although the Holy King governs with benevolence, he is not afraid of war. On the contrary, our martial virtue is no less than our benevolence, even surpassing the latter. Whenever the surrounding tribes become restless, we will act to punish them, often resulting in battles with hundreds of millions of soldiers, with casualties reaching tens of millions... Compared to this, those barbarians on the Ancient Continent have never seen anything like it, their small scuffles aren't worth mentioning."

He had long since realized that these two lizards were from the Ancient Continent, but considering their sincere devotion to the Dragon God, he had refrained from reacting on the spot.

The two Players, however, did not detect the rebuttal in his words, and were a bit puzzled.

Good heavens.

The previous sentence spoke of eternal tranquility, and the next opened up the slaughter.

You contradict yourself.

[Sacrificial Mate] was about to argue with him, but [Boundless Magic] quickly stopped him.

They weren't here to make trouble.

They couldn't let this guy mistake them for lizards from across the ocean!

Furthermore, although the Priest's words lacked logic, the prosperity of Assam City was undoubtedly visible to the naked eye.

The Lizardmen living here were not as exaggerated as billions, but millions were more than sufficient.

The streets were filled with Lizardman Warriors wielding Obsidian Weapons, and the diligent slave labor was bustling with the transportation of goods. The air was filled with the scent of incense and the bloody smell of sacrifice, opulent buildings were everywhere, exuding an aura of solemnity and mystery.

Finally, they arrived before a towering Pyramid.

This massive structure, made of granite and reaching into the clouds, was the most sacred place in the Holy Armor Dragon Kingdom — the Dragon God Temple.

The Priest led them up the stone steps, explaining along the way, "...This is our altar to the Dragon God, the place where we soothe the Great Barrier. The resplendent prosperity of the Gana Continent, maintained for thousands of years, is all because of the Dragon God's grace. Therefore, every year, thousands of devotees come here to offer their most precious possessions as a token of reverence to the Dragon God."

The two listened, understanding only half of it, until they were brought to the top of the Temple.

There, the gigantic statue of the Dragon God stood around the altar, its dark eyes seemingly gazing down on each person who entered.

Meanwhile, several Priests were performing some kind of ritual, chanting ancient Spells in low voices, the air full of a solemn and oppressive atmosphere.

While the two Players were observing the solemn ritual in reverence, wondering why these people were chanting spells without offering any sacrifices, the guiding Priest suddenly turned around and smiled as he handed each of them an Obsidian Dagger.

Looking at the bewildered expressions of the two lizards, the Priest spoke in a gentle yet unquestionable tone.

"Come, Pilgrims..."

"Offer your hearts to Him!"

"Dedicate your flesh and blood along with your present lives, as proof of your devotion!"

"Your Souls will return to the bountiful land of origins, begin a new cycle here — you will gain true eternity, transcend the mundane, and become true children of the Dragon God!"
