chapter 49
Tae-seo stood in front of the mirror, running his hands through his hair, tilting his head slightly as he checked different angles.
The last time he had neatly slicked his hair back, Kang Se-heon had said it suited him.
So today, he tried styling it the same way again.
But for some reason, he didn’t like how it looked.
“I have to look good today.”
He looked fine—he always did—but that wasn’t the point.
It was his day, the day he had planned from start to finish, so he had to be satisfied.
The more he fussed with his hair, the worse it started to look.
Eventually, it got so bad that it was beyond saving.
“The hell is this?”
Tae-seo stared at his own mess of a reflection before chuckling.
If he showed up like this, Kang Se-heon would definitely have a good laugh.
But there was no way he was walking around looking like this all day.
In the end, he just washed his hair and let it air-dry.
His hair naturally fell forward, covering his forehead, looking exactly as it always did.
“Yeah… I should just act like I always do.”
It was a special day, but there was no need to overdo it.
“…But at least I should wear something different.”
Reaching toward the neatly hung row of clothes, Tae-seo carefully selected his outfit.
Something clean. Something presentable.
It was his way of making sure he didn’t take anything lightly.
Checking himself in the full-length mirror, Tae-seo let out a satisfied smile and turned to leave the room.
But just as he reached the door, he suddenly stopped in his tracks.
“Almost forgot this.”
It would feel awkward to show up empty-handed.
Picking up the item he had left on the table, Tae-seo finally stepped out of the room.
❖
Standing in front of Kang Se-heon’s house for the first time in a while, Tae-seo looked around.
Just a few days ago, he had been going in and out of this place like it was his own.
The surroundings felt familiar—comfortable, even.
His eyes unconsciously landed on the passcode panel.
He wanted to skip the doorbell and just punch in the numbers like he used to.
He could recall the layout of the house in perfect detail, as if he had lived there just yesterday.
Yet, here he was, standing outside.
But today wasn’t about reminiscing.
Tae-seo swallowed and pressed the doorbell.
The door was thick, blocking out any noise from inside.
He strained his ears but couldn’t hear a single sign of movement.
Then, just as he was focusing all his attention on the house, he heard the door lock beep as it disengaged.
As the door opened, Tae-seo found himself face-to-face with Kang Se-heon’s chest.
Or rather, the space between his collarbones and his neck.
The top button of his shirt, which was usually fastened neatly, was undone today.
Tae-seo’s gaze slowly traveled upward, tracing the strong, straight line of Se-heon’s neck to his sharp jaw.
He could picture that face perfectly even with his eyes closed—
And yet, he had missed it.
Kang Se-heon tapped his own wrist lightly.
His watch was hanging loose, not yet fully fastened.
“There’s still plenty of time before our appointment.”
“I came to pick you up.”
Tae-seo extended his hand.
Se-heon always came to pick him up at school, so this time, it was his turn.
“I like that… but I’m not ready yet.”
“I’ll wait. Take your time.”
Tae-seo assured him with a smile—
Then, without thinking, reached out.
He wanted to button Se-heon’s shirt properly.
Catching on to his intentions, Se-heon let out a small chuckle and bent slightly toward him.
It was just a small movement, closing the distance between them—
But Se-heon’s scent hit him hard.
The same scent Tae-seo had once assumed was cologne.
Now, he knew.
It was pheromones.
When had he first realized it?
At some point, it had just… clicked.
A scent that only he could perceive, wrapping around him every time they met.
And on those days, food tasted better. Sleep came easier.
Just as Tae-seo had gradually gotten used to seeing Se-heon, he had also grown accustomed to his pheromones.
So recognizing it now wasn’t shocking.
It was just… natural.
The only difference now was that when he smelled it, he instinctively took a deeper breath, wanting to keep it with him.
Se-heon’s pheromones curled around Tae-seo’s throat, not constricting, but settling in place—like they belonged there.
And Tae-seo let himself sink into that comforting familiarity.
“You gonna do my tie, too?”
“That, I’m not used to. The person who always does it should handle it.”
He wasn’t about to give himself too much time to indulge.
Squinting playfully, Tae-seo pushed a hand against Se-heon’s chest, nudging him back.
“I’m done here. Go finish getting ready.”
“…What a shame. If I’d known, I would’ve unbuttoned everything.”
“That’s exactly why it works—because you didn’t.”
Tae-seo let his fingers linger for just a second, deliberately brushing against the crisp edge of Se-heon’s collar before stepping back.
It was barely even a touch.
And yet, Se-heon’s scent grew even stronger.
He was probably the same.
Before that strange feeling could take hold, Tae-seo quickly turned away, clearing his throat as he leaned back against the wall.
Se-heon let °• N 𝑜 v 𝑒 l i g h t •° out a quiet, amused breath before disappearing inside.
“…Haah. Yoon Tae-seo.”
The moment Se-heon was out of sight, Tae-seo smacked himself on the forehead.
All he had done was button a damn shirt.
Why the hell had he acted like he was under some kind of spell?
Since their first meeting, things between them had always been restrained—no unnecessary contact.
But this time… it had felt a little dangerous.
‘Don’t blame it on the pheromones.’
He had always smelled Se-heon’s scent.
That wasn’t what had made him react like that.
It was just… the moment itself.
Shaking his head, Tae-seo brushed his fingers through his hair, as if trying to shake off the lingering scent.
But instead, the pheromones only lifted into the air, swirling around him, lingering in his lungs rather than dispersing.
If it had been dust, he could’ve sneezed it out.
But pheromones… they just settled inside him, coiling deep like a snake.
Tae-seo glared at the empty space in front of him as if it had personally offended him.
“I rushed because I thought you’d get bored, but turns out I didn’t have to. My little Tae-seo can entertain himself just fine.”
“…How long have you been standing there?”
“Let’s see… The only thing I didn’t see was you smacking your forehead.”
“Then how do you know it was my forehead?”
Tae-seo shot him a look, unimpressed by his obvious lie.
Se-heon merely smirked.
“…The red mark gave it away.”
Tae-seo quickly shook his head, trying to fix his bangs.
Not that it would change the fact that he had already been caught.
Meanwhile, Kang Se-heon’s gaze lazily swept over Tae-seo’s outfit.
“You know, just like last time, suits really don’t suit you.”
“That’s because I don’t wear them often.”
He had put effort into dressing up today, so it didn’t feel great to hear that it didn’t suit him.
He had always thought that no matter what he wore, his face could pull it off.
“And what about you, hyung? Do you only own suits? What, is it a tattoo or something? Do you not own any other clothes?”
“I dress comfortably at home.”
“Then you should dress comfortably when you meet me, too.”
“…I want to stay on edge.”
Se-heon took just a single step closer.
But even that was enough to shrink the space between them to barely the width of two fingers.
Close enough that they could hear each other’s breathing.
Tae-seo tilted his head back, meeting Se-heon’s eyes.
“If I’m meeting Yoon Tae-seo, I have to put in my best effort.”
“Damn. Your lines are something else, huh?”
“In that case, I’ll take your outfit today as a sign that you’re giving me your best effort, too.”
Se-heon wasn’t wrong.
Tae-seo had dressed up for that very reason.
“Let’s go.”
They had already exchanged plenty of greetings through conversation laced with interest.
Now, it was time to begin the plans Tae-seo had prepared.
❖
For all his boldness in demanding an entire day from Kang Se-heon, the plans Tae-seo had actually put together weren’t particularly extravagant.
They would get food because they’d be hungry.
They would get coffee because they’d be thirsty.
And since it was hot outside, they’d find somewhere comfortably cool to spend time together.
That was the basic structure, and he had simply built upon it.
Usually, they always went to places Se-heon was familiar with.
So this time, Tae-seo had chosen a place he knew.
The only problem was that he didn’t know many places… which is how they ended up at a hotel.
It wasn’t that deep.
There was no rule saying they had to travel across the city.
“…You really went all out, dragging me straight into a hotel room.”
Se-heon muttered, absently wondering if he should loosen his tie again.
Ignoring him, Tae-seo focused on waiting for the room service he had ordered in advance.
Soon enough, the food arrived, and he immediately led Se-heon to the table.
“Let’s eat first.”
The menu was a mix of Western and Korean dishes, including the burgers they had eaten before.
By the time everything was laid out, more than half of the long dining table was covered in food.
“Eat as much as you want.”
Tae-seo picked up a bowl of soup, inhaling its savory aroma, and gestured for Se-heon to enjoy himself as well.
Se-heon chuckled, unable to argue with Tae-seo’s efforts, and played along.
Rather than focusing on a single dish, he took his time tasting a variety of the foods.
Once they were full, Tae-seo ordered coffee.
By the time it arrived, they were sitting side by side in a spot with the best view.
The cool air conditioning made the warmth of the coffee feel even better.
And the faint pheromones exchanged through their touching arms lifted Tae-seo’s mood even more.
He wrapped both hands around his mug, took a deep breath, and let out a long, satisfied sigh.
This is nice.
“I planned everything so we wouldn’t have to go anywhere else.”
Se-heon laughed at Tae-seo’s little scheme.
He was enjoying everything Tae-seo had prepared, finding pleasure in every moment of it.
Seeing that made Tae-seo feel even more proud.
It meant everything he had planned was reaching Se-heon the way he wanted it to.
“This is the place where we’ve met the most.”
“…Yeah. It is.”
They had spent nights together in hotel rooms, bumped into each other unexpectedly, and even had their first meeting at a hotel.
Hell, Se-heon had even seen Tae-seo on a blind date here.
A place full of shared memories.
“And now, we’re adding another one to the list. After today, we won’t be able to forget what happens in this room.”
“…That sounds pretty ominous.”
“It will be.”
Se-heon’s playful remark was met with Tae-seo’s unwavering confidence.
This would definitely be a moment neither of them would forget.
Because he wouldn’t forget it, either.
“We’ve eaten, we’ve had coffee… What’s next?”
“We sleep.”
Tae-seo’s voice rang out, firm and final.
