The Peerless Beauty Stuck With Me

Chapter 17: The Kid is Quite Cunning

"Tang Rao, what... what are you doing?" In a narrow alley of the food street, under dim light, Jiang Langhuan stared at Tang Rao, her eyebrows slightly furrowed.

Tang Rao stared at Jiang Langhuan in front of him, his eyes narrowing into a line.

"Xiao Huan, you really are quite beautiful," Tang Rao crooked his lips and said, "And smart too, much more clever than that silly girl Xiao Yue."

Jiang Langhuan's face reddened, what on earth was Tang Rao trying to do?

His serious compliments were somewhat unaccustomed to her.

"Wait a minute…" Jiang Langhuan's expression suddenly changed.

"Did you just say that things aren't over yet, could it be that you dragged me here to lure someone out?" Jiang Langhuan glared at Tang Rao, isn't this guy being a bit too bold?

"Truly worthy to be my fiancée, Tang Rao. Your little brain is quite sharp," Tang Rao reached out, touched Jiang Langhuan's head, his face full of smiles.

"Who is your fiancée? I…I don't want to marry you…" Jiang Langhuan said, biting her lip.

"Oh? Then tell me why. If you make sense, this engagement could indeed be canceled," Tang Rao shrugged his shoulders, he wasn't crazy after all; marrying a girl who doesn't like him wouldn't be fun.

Besides, he had some fondness for Jiang Langhuan but far from liking her enough to consider marriage.

After all, I, Tang Rao, will eventually return to the Seventy-two Domains of the Nine Realms, where countless stunning girls are waiting for me.

"Really?" Jiang Langhuan's eyes suddenly lit up.

"Do I need to lie to you? A forced melon isn't sweet," Tang Rao laughed.

"I…I want to experience love." After a long moment, Jiang Langhuan finally whispered these few words.

Tang Rao was slightly taken aback, this indeed was a fresh reason.

"I know, I am from the Jiang Family, and many things are beyond my control. But, I don't want to marry someone I don't love. I want to have my own love, my own life, even if I might regret it later, I still want to try," Jiang Langhuan looked at Tang Rao, her eyes shimmering.

Tang Rao touched his nose, blinking.

That moment just now, Jiang Langhuan's words had touched his heart.

Pursuing the life one wants, even if it may lead to regrets, never looking back.

Tang Rao himself isn't any different; from being a nobody, he has done everything to pursue what he desires.

In all of this, there's been hesitation, regret, and helplessness, but none of these make him feel uneasy or guilty towards himself.

"Alright, you've convinced me. When the time is right, I will call off the engagement," Tang Rao nodded, his expression sincere.

Jiang Langhuan looked at Tang Rao, somewhat surprised.

She didn't expect Tang Rao to agree, was this really still the same detestable jerk from before?

"That…"

"Shh!" Just as Jiang Langhuan was about to say something, Tang Rao quickly reached out and covered her mouth.

Then, Tang Rao pulled Jiang Langhuan to the side.

In the darkness, Tang Rao's pupils suddenly narrowed.

He sensed danger.

Tang Rao's muscles tensed, and he became highly alert.

"Things seem to be getting more interesting," Tang Rao suddenly murmured softly.

If he wasn't mistaken, there might be a gun aiming at him right now.

Originally, Tang Rao thought all this was Cui Sifang's doing, but now it seems it's not so simple.

Cui Sifang isn't capable of such tactics.

Setting up a gunman directly, tsk tsk, seems like they are quite the heavyweights.

"One second…two seconds…three seconds!" When Tang Rao counted to three, he tightly hugged Jiang Langhuan and suddenly lunged forward.

Right as he lunged, the sound of a suppressed gunshot abruptly rang out.

Bang!

Tang Rao's standing position had a fist-sized hole blown into the wall behind him.

In Tang Rao's embrace, Jiang Langhuan was somewhat stunned.

She certainly knew what that faint sound was—it was a gunshot. Even with a silencer, she could tell.

What exactly was happening today?

Was it her or Tang Rao that the other party wanted to kill?

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

The sound of consecutive gunfire rang out again, and at this moment, Tang Rao was like an incredibly agile leopard, moving with extreme swiftness.

One could hardly imagine that he was holding a person in his arms.

"Rest assured, with me here, nothing will happen." Tang Rao lowered his head to look at Jiang Langhuan, his expression relaxed.

Looking at the barely there smile on Tang Rao's face, Jiang Langhuan inexplicably felt somewhat reassured. It seemed as if nothing would go wrong as long as Tang Rao was by her side.

Jiang Langhuan didn't know why she felt this way, but it felt very real.

"Let's go!" With a low growl, Tang Rao sharply leaned forward, then dove into a roll, whisking them into an even darker alley.

The alley was extremely narrow, barely wide enough for one person to pass through.

After entering the narrow alley, Tang Rao leaped up, pushing off the walls with his feet, taking Jiang Langhuan up as they climbed.

Within a few breaths' time, Tang Rao had already climbed to the top of the wall, overseeing everything from high above.

Jiang Langhuan's hands clung tightly to Tang Rao's waist. She wanted to scream several times, but she held it back in the end.

After all, this was no child's play; their lives were at stake.

Two minutes later, Tang Rao's pupils slightly constricted. They were coming.

A black shadow appeared in the alley, moving with incredibly light footsteps and strong surveillance awareness, checking the surroundings with every step.

The shadow held a black handgun with a silencer.

As the shadow walked right beneath him, Tang Rao signaled Jiang Langhuan to remain silent, then withdrew his hands and fell straight down.

From the height of seven or eight meters, Tang Rao's body fell silently.

Jiang Langhuan covered her mouth desperately, her eyes almost bulging out.

This Tang Rao guy, he's truly insane!

"Huh?" The shadow's perception was strong, and it suddenly looked up.

Seeing Tang Rao falling rapidly above him, the shadow instinctively raised the gun to shoot.

Unfortunately, he was still a step too slow. Tang Rao firmly landed on the shadow's head, and with a crisp crack, the shadow was forcefully pressed down by Tang Rao, emitting a muffled sound.

Then, the shadow went silent.

"What a waste of my spiritual energy." Tang Rao muttered quietly, clearly displeased.

"Alright, it should be safe now." Tang Rao let go of Jiang Langhuan, then crouched down to search the body of the shadow.

In no time at all, Tang Rao found a handgun and a mobile phone.

The phone looked quite old-fashioned, similar to Nokia's keypad models, but without any branding.

"Let's make a call and see." Tang Rao flipped through the phone's call log; there was only one number.

He dialed directly.

Outside in the S-class Mercedes-Benz by the food street, the young man's phone by his side began to vibrate.

"Hello..." the young man answered the phone, chewing on boba from his milk tea.

Tang Rao didn't speak; this voice was very unfamiliar, with no memory of it.

Clearly, even the original Tang Rao didn't know this person.

"Lil fucker, who the hell are you? Pretty sneaky, huh!" Tang Rao thought for a moment, then blurted out these words.
