Chapter 54: I Sincerely Came to Visit You
"Let's hear it." Tang Rao said with a grin.
"Actually, I wasn't planning on telling you. But I watched your fight with Qing Chuan, and perhaps, you can help." Guan Zhenkong's eyebrows slightly furrowed, having been troubled by this matter for a long time.
"About half a year ago, I was locating a burial spot in Biyun City in Jiezhou and found a tomb. At first, I didn't pay much attention, thinking it was just a common official's tomb, so I gathered a few people and went down." Guan Zhenkong said, his eyes revealing a trace of fear.
Clearly, to this day, Guan Zhenkong couldn't forget the fear he felt at that time.
"Including me, seven people went down, but in the end, only Fei Jiu and I survived. By the way, Fei Jiu is my longtime partner, his family name is Tan, and his name is just Jiu."
At this point, Guan Zhenkong paused briefly and looked at Tang Rao.
"Go on." Tang Rao nodded.
"I've never seen such a bizarre tomb. I've been in this line of work for over twenty years, and this was the first time that I couldn't even pass the tomb passage." Guan Zhenkong took a deep breath.
Yes, he found the entrance to the tomb, but from the entrance to the burial chamber was a passage about one hundred meters long. They had only walked forward about ten meters when five people died; only Fei Jiu and he, being lucky, survived.
"Are the traps particularly formidable?" Tang Rao asked.
"In terms of traps, it might take some time, but they can be broken through..."
"What was it then?" Tang Rao was slightly startled. There were no traps, but five people died?
Guan Zhenkong looked up at Tang Rao, staring in a way that made Tang Rao feel somewhat uneasy.
"Singing." After a long pause, Guan Zhenkong finally let out two words.
Singing?
"We heard singing, a woman's singing. It was sorrowful and melancholic, echoing like a sound in a desolate valley. Luckily, Fei Jiu is naturally deaf and mute; he pulled me out of the tomb passage. As for the other five... I... I watched helplessly as their heads burst open like watermelons." Guan Zhenkong finished speaking, already pale-faced.
Had it not been for Fei Jiu pulling him out, he would likely have ended up like those five.
He had never encountered such a phenomenon before, it was too bizarre.
But sometimes, people have a death-wishing spirit, and Guan Zhenkong was no exception.
The more bizarre it was, the more it irked him, always thinking about going again.
Even once, he almost went mad for a period, almost puncturing his eardrum with a needle.
Because if he lost his hearing, maybe he wouldn't be affected by that singing.
Tang Rao also frowned at this moment.
Hearing singing, then the heads exploding?
It feels... like... some sort of Soul Skill?
In the Nine Realms and Seventy-two Domains, one can start cultivating Soul Skills once their strength enters the spirit-dividing level. When encountering someone weaker, a Soul Skill can easily kill invisibly.
Of course, if the opponent carried a Soul Defense Spiritual Artifact, its effect would be much diminished.
But thinking about it, Tang Rao felt something was wrong; if it were a Soul Skill, neither Fei Jiu nor Guan Zhenkong could have survived. Don't think that being deaf can make you immune to Soul Skill effects, that's just silly.
"Xiao Rao, forget it..." Guan Zhenkong suddenly gestured with his hands, "let's not go, just pretend I never said anything."
"In the end, you will still go, won't you?" Tang Rao looked at Guan Zhenkong and said.
Guan Zhenkong was slightly shocked, then nodded.
"I don't want you to take the risk, but no matter what, I have to go in again. Even if I die in there, I'm resolved. I can't bear entering the soil with regrets." Guan Zhenkong clenched his teeth, his gaze determined.
He was such a person, the more unknown something was, the more he wanted to explore.
"When you're ready, let me know, I'll help you." Tang Rao said very solemnly.
Having already promised to help Guan Zhenkong, he naturally had to follow through.
"Actually..."
"Anyway, I've been wanting to check out Bo Mountain area recently." Tang Rao smiled and interrupted Guan Zhenkong. Fat Bear had told him about the Nine-leaf Blood Ginseng in Bo Mountain, so it would be good to take a look while there.
College summer vacation was nearing, just needed to drag Fat Bear along.
"Thank you, Xiao Rao, I will prepare everything perfectly. Don't worry, I won't mess around without being really sure," Guan Zhenkong said, taking a breath.
Although he liked adventures and the unknown, he wasn't about to recklessly gamble with his own life.
"Okay, I'll have someone come and haul away the Medicine Furnace later; that cute girl outside is still waiting for me, I'm gonna go now," Tang Rao told Guan Zhenkong.
"No need to call anyone, just go have fun with the cute girl, I'll have someone send it to your place," Guan Zhenkong grinned.
"That's great, Old Guan, you're really reliable," Tang Rao gave Guan Zhenkong a thumbs up.
…
"Xiao Qingchuan, I'm here!" Once he stepped out of the villa, Tang Rao saw Qing Chuan at the door.
Qing Chuan: "..."
"Let's go, take me to find Lu He, that jerk. If I don't collect some interest, I feel like life isn't fun," Tang Rao walked ahead, swinging his arms and shaking his head.
Seeing Tang Rao's demeanor, Qing Chuan felt a bit chaotic in his mind.
Oh my, he had actually been controlled by such a guy.
It looks like the days ahead are not going to be easy anymore.
An hour later, Qing Chuan drove Tang Rao to a riverside villa complex in Sui City Second Ring.
"This is it," Qing Chuan pointed to a detached villa ahead, "He was here before, but I'm not sure if he's still here now."
"Okay, you wait here, I'll be right back." Tang Rao got out of the car and headed straight for the villa's backyard.
With a light jump, he whooshed into the villa.
Before Qing Chuan could get a clear view, Tang Rao had already entered the villa.
The villa was quiet, and there was nobody around.
Tang Rao pursed his lips, uninhibitedly walking around the villa. He even grabbed an apple from the dining table and crunched on it while inspecting around.
Not on the first floor, the second floor...
Just as he reached the second floor, Tang Rao heard the sound of running water, seemingly coming from one of the rooms.
Tang Rao moved his ears, followed the sound, and quickly found the target room.
"Open." Tang Rao placed his hand on the doorknob, gave a slight shake, and the door silently opened.
The room was clean and tidy, with a faint scent lingering.
Tang Rao didn't hold back, sat on the sofa, and continued to munch on the apple while watching the TV that was already on.
Five minutes later, the water sound in the bathroom ceased, followed by the bathroom door opening, and Lu He emerged wearing a bathrobe, drying his hair while walking out.
As he entered the room, Lu He was startled and suddenly looked up at the sofa.
On the sofa, the apple in Tang Rao's hand had been reduced to just the core, and he was now smilingly looking at Lu He.
"Hi..." Tang Rao waved, greeting Lu He.
Lu He's eyes were fixated on Tang Rao, the corners of his eyes twitching slightly.
"What are you doing here?" Lu He finally spoke.
"I came to see how your face is healing!" Tang Rao said with a smile, pretending as if he truly came to visit out of concern.
