Chapter 62: Call Off the Engagement Once You Have a Boyfriend
After Jiang Langhuan fell silent, Tang Rao stopped speaking as well.
The two of them sat quietly for five minutes, listening to each other's breathing and thinking their own thoughts.
"By the way, Xiao Huan, how's the search for a boyfriend going?" Tang Rao suddenly asked.
Jiang Langhuan was stunned, her mouth slightly open, but unsure what to say.
She had told Tang Rao that the reason she wanted to dissolve their engagement was because she wanted to pursue her own love and enjoy it.
This seemingly ridiculous desire within a large family, Tang Rao had agreed to, promising to dissolve the engagement at the right time.
"Not... not yet..." Jiang Langhuan shook her head.
"Alright, then tell me when you find someone, and I'll dissolve our engagement. Of course, I'd prefer not to have to discuss it with your grandfather, otherwise I'd get annoyed," Tang Rao said with a grin.
Tang Rao had no good feelings towards Jiang Tiesheng at all.
That old man's way of doing things was all wrong.
Was this the right opportunity Tang Rao was talking about? The opportunity being her finding a boyfriend?
Jiang Langhuan's expression was somewhat dull, her gaze drifting, not knowing what she was thinking.
As for Tang Rao, he had shifted from resting his chin on one hand to both hands, his eyes squinting, making a blubbering sound.
"Xiao Huan, why isn't Xiao Yue with you today?" Tang Rao thought and asked.
"Uh, Xiao Yue... she has her period, it's always very painful, so she's resting at home," Jiang Langhuan said somewhat vaguely.
Tang Rao, of course, understood.
Lang Yue's aunt is here, so she isn't around?
Damn, could all the coincidences in this whole situation really just be coincidences?
Tang Rao found it a bit hard to accept, being a person accustomed to plots and schemes, he didn't quite believe in continuous coincidences.
"What do you know about Gu Shengtai?" Tang Rao asked again.
Jiang Langhuan's face looked slightly upset.
"Gu Shengtai has been my classmate from the start; usually, he... takes good care of me and is a decent person. Xiao Yue knows him quite well too, he's one of the few guys who can get a genuine look from Xiao Yue. I've never felt he had any ulterior motives towards me..." Jiang Langhuan said, shaking her head.
She still couldn't believe that Gu Shengtai could do such a thing.
"Oh? That's good…" Tang Rao, hearing Jiang Langhuan's words, his eyes lighted up.
"What do you mean by 'that's good'?" Jiang Langhuan was a bit perplexed.
"Nothing much, just saying," Tang Rao grinned, then stood up, "When you go out, try to bring a bodyguard or something. If Xiao Yue is unwell, you shouldn't go out easily either. You know, sometimes, being too beautiful can also be a sin."
Hearing Tang Rao's words, Jiang Langhuan couldn't help feeling a bit joyful.
This guy Tang Rao, also knows how to compliment her looks, truly rare.
"I understand," Jiang Langhuan responded, "Go have fun, I already asked Xiao Yue to come pick me up, she should be here soon."
"Alright, then I'm off. Otherwise, if Xiao Yue sees me, who knows how she'll take half-hearted swipes at me again," Tang Rao waved to Jiang Langhuan.
"Actually... Xiao Yue is quite nice... it's just that, there might be some misunderstanding between you two," Jiang Langhuan said.
Tang Rao shrugged, even without misunderstandings, my relationship with Jiang Langyue probably wouldn't be that good.
Look at her, acting all menopausal like that, looking sharp at any man.
Simply crazy.
...
On the other side, in a taxi, Gu Shengtai was being taken to the hospital by several male classmates.
Tang Rao had shown some restraint; although Gu Shengtai suffered severe pain, the truly burned areas were few. His pain was already lessening significantly, and Gu Shengtai was calming down.
"Driver, stop at the intersection ahead," Gu Shengtai shouted to the taxi driver.
"Alright," the taxi driver didn't say much and braked, stopping at the upcoming intersection.
"Brother Gu, we're not at the hospital yet?" His classmates were a bit surprised, not knowing why Gu Shengtai wanted to stop here.
"You guys... get out," Gu Shengtai pointed at them and said.
What?
Get out of the car?
"What are you staring at? Get out!" Gu Shengtai growled, his expression displeased.
Everyone else didn't say much either and left the car.
"Go." After everyone got out, Gu Shengtai told the taxi driver, and the car drove off again.
"Go to Boshuwan." Gu Shengtai leaned against the car door and gave an address.
Although his body felt terrible, there were still things that needed to be done.
As for the hospital, he could only wait until after he'd dealt with his business.
Before long, the taxi arrived at the entrance of Boshuwan.
Since it was an external vehicle, the security guard wouldn't let it in.
Gu Shengtai had no choice but to walk in himself.
Every step was difficult, and with each step, it felt as if his body was being gnawed by insects.
It took him a full forty minutes to reach the front of a villa. In fact, the distance from the security booth to this point was only about four or five hundred meters.
"Ding dong." Gu Shengtai rang the doorbell.
No one came to open the door, nor was there any response.
Gu Shengtai was puzzled; they had agreed to meet here, but it seemed like there was no one around.
Gu Shengtai pushed the door and to his surprise, it just opened.
However, he didn't think much of it and staggered inside, barely able to stand because he felt so ill.
From the security booth to here, those forty minutes were sheer torment.
After entering the villa, Gu Shengtai went straight to the sofa and then thumped down onto it.
"Is anyone here?" Gu Shengtai called out.
No one responded to him.
"Damn it, what a piece of garbage, so unreliable." Displeasure showed on Gu Shengtai's face.
I, Gu Shengtai, have sacrificed so much for this deal – ruined everything, you know?
Ding-a-ling!
The telephone beside Gu Shengtai suddenly rang.
The crisp ringing filled the entire villa.
It rang about five or six times, yet still no one in the villa appeared.
Gu Shengtai reached out, picked up the phone, and put it to his ear.
"Hello…" Gu Shengtai responded.
"Gu Shengtai." The voice on the phone came through somewhat hoarsely, obviously altered by a voice changer.
"F*ck, He Fei, what are you playing at? I'm here, where are you?" Gu Shengtai shouted.
Today's business was set up by He Fei, and this villa was the agreed meeting place known only to the two of them.
So, in Gu Shengtai's view, the caller had to be He Fei.
He didn't know why this guy would use a voice changer.
"Who told you I am He Fei?" The hoarse voice answered.
Gu Shengtai was slightly startled.
The caller wasn't He Fei? Then who could it be?
The whole affair was only known by him and He Fei; how could there be a third person?
Could it be that He Fei too was acting under someone else's orders?
"The conditions you agreed upon with He Fei, I'll fulfill them, but you, on the other hand, have to die," the hoarse voice said into Gu Shengtai's ear like a thunderclap.
