Chapter 517: 423 you're old, you're no longer useful, you can't even pick up a knife
Hua Mi didn't bother to argue with Uncle Qu; she simply opened the door and walked out. Not a single zombie was in sight.
They had all been cleared away by Hua Mi before she came in.
Uncle Qu caught up to the doorway and said to Hua Mi,
"Alright, I'll trust you this once. Go and bring in Doctor Lin and your husband and children first. We have enough people here to protect you all."
But Hua Mi didn't take his words to heart. She stepped out the door with her long blade in hand and headed straight for Captain Zhao to join the fight.
Uncle Qu watched her departing silhouette, his heart full of irritation.
He had thought Hua Mi came to them with an excuse, seeking their asylum just like Su Ruyan had done before.
Yet Hua Mi left without a backward glance. What did that mean? Did they expect them to leave their shelter and beg her to return?
Uncle Qu couldn't grasp the key point of the situation when he saw Hua Mi dancing with her blade, making her way to Captain Zhao's side.
Soon, her figure disappeared into the Zombie Tide.
Then Hua Mi entered the ruins where Captain Zhao was.
Uncle Qu squinted his eyes for a moment; this woman, plump of figure with a fair and clear face, was unexpectedly proficient at slashing through zombies with her blade.
Uncle Qu immediately turned back to find Qu Yimin and asked,
"That woman with the kid, has she always been so skilled?"
Qu Yimin nodded.
Hua Mi now had a fuller figure, her face like a white steamed bun, yet she had slimmed down a lot since her late pregnancy stage.
Qu Yimin hadn't paid close attention to what Hua Mi's face looked like.
In a timid voice, she said to Uncle Qu,
"That ugly woman is indeed formidable. When I was following behind them, I saw that most of the time, it was the ugly woman who fought the zombies."
"Doctor Lin was fixing the electric fence; her husband, on the other hand, was nowhere to be seen."
Understanding dawned on Uncle Qu, and he nodded,
"If that's the case, then we'll agree if she wants to join us again."
In this group of more than a hundred people, no one was capable of moving freely amidst the Zombie Tide like Hua Mi.
Uncle Qu saw it clearly; a woman with powerful combat capabilities like Hua Mi was far more useful than Su Ruyan, who was like an embroidered pillow — merely for show.
He then heard Qu Yimin say,
"Actually, her man is even more formidable than her; it's just that he rarely leaves the RV."
Upon hearing this, Uncle Qu's eyes sparkled with excitement. In this world today, weren't formidable fighters the most needed?
He immediately gathered some of the bodyguards under his command and sent two people out to invite Gong Yi over from the RV.
Following Uncle Qu, Qu Yimin asked,
"Uncle, are we going to guard this shelter at all costs?"
Uncle Qu shook his head and replied,
"Don't listen to that woman's nonsense; do you know how fast those Mutant Beasts are?"
"I left E-city base with more than 200 people, and now we're down to just 100."
"A few hours have passed since that woman mentioned the Mutated Beast Tide."
"Do you have any idea how far those Mutant Beasts can travel in just a few hours?"
Thus, Uncle Qu's intention was to perceive the situation with a dialectical view.
After calming Qu Yimin, he waited for his envoys to invite Gong Yi, Doctor Lin, and the two children over.
Inside the shelter, the Qu Family's bodyguards continued their own activities — playing cards or drinking alcohol.
Some of the men even went so far as to harass Su Ruyan, whose leg had been broken.
The epitome of evil unfolded within the shelter.
Just then, a Mutant Beast somehow found its way in and leaped past Qu Yimin, clamping its teeth around the throat of a man behind her.
At that moment, Qu Yimin hadn't even realized what was happening.
All the men in the shelter were busily engaged in their own pursuits, wholly oblivious to any sense of danger.
It wasn't until a warm liquid splashed onto the back of Qu Yimin's head that she trembled and, with wavering resolve, turned back to face the humanoid Mutant Beast behind her with pointed ears and a long tail.
The creature's mouth was smeared with blood as it fixated its golden vertical pupils on Qu Yimin.
She opened her mouth but was too frightened to make a sound.
A man standing beside Qu Yimin, pointing at his companion whose throat had been ripped open, suddenly came to his senses.
He rapidly drew his gun.
But before he could aim, another Mutant Beast charged in from the open door outside, pouncing directly into the group of men who were playing cards.
