Gu Yan said, “Then I’ll save it for sister and little Jingkong.”
“They have their own; this one is for you!” Yao Family’s matriarch called the maid in the room and handed her the box, “Yesterday, uncle brought persimmons. Pick the two biggest ones for Jiaojiao and that child.”
Gu Yan frowned unconsciously as Yao Family’s matriarch didn’t even use little Jingkong’s name.
“I’m going to find mom,” he made an excuse and left.
However, he didn’t look for Yao Family’s matriarch but headed to the small garden where little Jingkong was playing.
Little Jingkong was joyfully building a snowman on the ground, while Gu Jiao watched him.
The maid from Yao Family’s matriarch’s courtyard brought two persimmons, one for Gu Jiao and one for little Jingkong.
Little Jingkong, being a sensible and content child, exclaimed, “Wow, wow, wow! Such a big, red persimmon! Jiaojiao, can I eat it?”
Gu Jiao nodded.
Little Jingkong began sitting in the snow peeling the persimmon.

He had actually seen it; there was another large persimmon in the box. He thought the maid would give it to little Jingkong and Gu Jiao, but unexpectedly, she had quietly tucked the box away and swapped in two smaller persimmons for them.
It was obvious who had instructed this.
That persimmon was definitely saved for Gu Jinyu.
The grandmother did not truly love Yao Family’s children.

Little Jingkong paused, then said “Oh,” wrapping his small hands around the big persimmon and struggled to peel it.
After he was done, he stretched out his hands towards Gu Yan, “Here.”
Now it was Gu Yan’s turn to be stunned, “What are you doing?”
Little Jingkong tilted his head, “Aren’t I supposed to peel the persimmon for you?”
I—I gave you the big persimmon to eat!
Something seemed to be choking Gu Yan’s chest.
Little Jingkong stuffed the peeled persimmon into his hands and then took his own smaller, half-peeled persimmon and continued peeling.
He was very focused.
Yet, Gu Yan felt a pain in his chest.
He squatted down, leveling his eyes with the little guy, “This one is bigger, don’t you see? Don’t you want to eat the bigger one?”
Little Jingkong sincerely said, “I can’t finish it.”
Little Jingkong felt it was only reasonable that big ones were for adults and small ones for children.
“Ayan,” Gu Jiao smiled at Gu Yan.
Gu Yan swallowed the words that would expose Yao Family’s matriarch.
He actually understood what Yao Family’s matriarch was planning; he was his father’s most beloved son, and Gu Jinyu was his father’s favorite daughter, while Jiaojiao hadn’t even lived in Marquis Residence, seemingly less favored.
