"Hm…"
Imagine you've been saving up for months to buy this particular smartphone that you have your heart set on. You've researched every detail, compared models, and planned the exact day you'll go to the store and get it.
But then, out of nowhere, you get lucky and win a lottery—one that happens to include a smartphone as a prize. However, it's not the model you had planned to buy. Still, it's a perfectly good phone, maybe even better than the one you originally wanted.
Yet, because it wasn't part of your plan, you're left feeling a mix of emotions—confused and slightly uneasy, but not exactly disappointed either. It's that strange middle ground where you're unsure whether to be disappointed that things didn't go according to your plan and you have to make changes to it or simply accept the unexpected gift and be happy about it, especially since you didn't have to put in any effort (or money in this case) to get it in the first place!
This was exactly how Seir felt as he stared at the little blonde-haired girl with green eyes standing before him, her expression slightly nervous. There was no doubt—she was Kuisha Abaddon. A servant he had never planned to acquire, nor had he even considered taking her in. Yet, by some twist of fate, she had somehow ended up as his.
The situation left Seir perplexed, and he couldn't help but sigh, 'Unexpected turn of events.'
As he sat there, lost in thought, staring at the girl with a dazed expression, Roygun, noticing his silence, turned to Lucia. "Help the girl settle in," she instructed before adding, "From now on, she will be living here and serving my dazed little brother, so be sure to lesson her properly. I leave her under your care."
"Yes, my Lady," Lucia responded with a respectful bow before turning to Kuisha. "Come, child."
Kuisha bowed politely to both Seir and Roygun before following the Head maid of the Belphegor Household, leaving Seir still grappling with the unexpected turn of events that led her to an unknown castle filled with unknown people.
Yes, the gathering had ended, and they had returned—but instead of going back to his father's Castle, where Seir had spent the last four and a half years of his life, he was now at Roygun's personal castle.
His parents had returned to Malakarion's Castle, leaving only Roygun and Seir to remain here. The reason was simple—his training in using [Crack] would soon begin, and he would undergo it while staying at Roygun's castle.
Naturally, his newly acquired servant—who had severed ties with her household—was brought along as well.
After Kuisha left with Lucia, Roygun shifted her attention to Seir and asked, "What's wrong? You don't seem too happy to have her as your servant." She paused for a moment before adding, "Is she not to your liking?"
"I wouldn't say she isn't to my liking…" Seir replied with a sigh.
"Then what's the problem? You don't look happy to me," Roygun asked, puzzled.
"Nothing really… I'm just a little surprised, that's all," Seir answered, shaking his head.
It was a lie. Surprise wasn't the real issue. He was indeed a little unhappy, but not for the reason Roygun assumed. It wasn't about obtaining Kuisha—well, she was part of it, but not entirely.
While obtaining Kuisha Abaddon as a servant was undoubtedly a great outcome—especially since he got her effortlessly—there was one problem. He hadn't been the one to obtain her. His parents had. And while he didn't resent them for it—after all, they had done it for his benefit—he couldn't shake the feeling that things were happening around him without his control.
In this second life, Seir wanted complete control over everything around him. He didn't want others deciding things for him. He wanted to make his own choices, to obtain everything through his own efforts. But Kuisha… he hadn't earned her. He had nothing to do with acquiring her—she was simply handed to him as part of the deals his parents made with Grand Duke Abaddon.
'But… whatever. I'm probably just complaining for no reason,' he thought. There will always be things outside his control. he just has to learn to adapt…
'Looking on the bright side, I've gained a capable servant… and well, now I don't have to go after Himejima Akeno.'
Originally, Seir had planned to recruit Himejima Akeno into his peerage. With her half-Fallen Angel bloodline, which granted her control over [Holy Lightning], and her status as Baraqiel's daughter—not to mention her connection to Himejima Suzaku—she would have been a valuable asset, allowing Seir to form easy connections with the Fallen Angels as well as the Himejima Clan.
However, Kuisha was not a bad alternative. In fact, she could fulfill the same role Akeno would have—or perhaps even surpass her. Not in terms of political connections, as Kuisha had none to leverage, not even from the Abaddon Household, considering she is an illegitimate daughter and has cut off all her connections to that household but in sheer ability. Her Abaddon trait alone made her a peerage member worth having, possibly even more so than the daughter of Baraqiel.
Besides, in battle, Kuisha would likely never lose to Akeno. She didn't in the canon, and with the power of the Abaddon trait, there was no reason she would lose otherwise.
"[Hole], huh? I wonder if she has already awakened it," Seir murmured, his expression thoughtful.
Hearing Seir's question, Roygun spoke, "From what I've been told by Father and Mother, she's indeed awakened the Abaddon trait. If properly nurtured and groomed, she could become a valuable and loyal member of your peerage… maybe even your [Queen]."
"I wouldn't be so sure about making her my [Queen], sister," Seir said with a shrug. "That role might not be the best fit for her. I think she'd be better suited as a [Bishop]."
"Oh? And what makes you think that?" Roygun asked, raising an eyebrow. "You haven't even seen her in action. Not to mention, she's still just a child—she can be molded into whatever you need."
"'Whatever' is a strong term… it's best not to use it here," said Seir, considering the various implications that 'molded into whatever' might carry.
Roygun's eyes widened in surprise before a sly smile spread across her lips. "Oh? Did you just think of something inappropriate, little brother?"
Seir tilted his head slightly. "Whatever do you mean, elder sister?"
"Now, now, don't play coy with me. I know you better than anyone," Roygun said as she stepped closer. She cupped his chin, gently tilting his face up to meet her gaze. "All those pervy thoughts that swirl around in that head of yours… I know them all too well." She paused before adding with a teasing smile, "Shall we try them out together? 'Whatever' you were thinking…"
Under Roygun's intense gaze, Seir felt a slight flush creep onto his face, but he had no intention of opening that can of worms, especially on a little girl barely seven years old. With a sigh, he simply said, "Let's not get distracted."
"Fine, fine, let's not," Roygun conceded with a small smile before adding playfully, "For now." She withdrew her hand and returned to the previous topic. "Anyway… what makes you think she'd be a better [Bishop] than a [Queen]? You barely know anything about her."
"I don't know… just a gut feeling," Seir lied, though, in truth, he had seen her in action, just through a flat screen.
Roygun rolled her eyes. "That's not an answer."
"Well, it's the only one I've got. I don't really have any other basis," Seir said, shaking his head, once again lying, though, in truth, he had knowledge of the canon to rely on. From what he could remember about Kuisha Abaddon, she leaned toward being a Wizard-type with elements of a technique-type. A servant like that would be far better suited for the role of a [Bishop] rather than a [Queen].
Although, in the canon, Sairaorg Bael chose Kuisha Abaddon as his [Queen], Seir considered it a waste of the [Queen] piece.
'I really don't understand why Sairaorg chose to make Kuisha his [Queen]…' he thought, puzzled.
The [Queen] piece possesses the combined traits of a [Bishop], [Knight], and [Rook]. However, a servant like Kuisha—who specializes in magic and long-range combat, being a Wizard-type—would only make use of the [Bishop] aspect, leaving the [Knight] and [Rook] traits completely wasted, just as she did in the canon as Sairaorg's [Queen]. While she was certainly skilled, she was also a glass cannon—powerful in the long-range and offensive but fragile and not-so-good when it comes to close-quarters combat.
In fact, she might have died facing Hyōdō Issei in their Rating Game if Sairaorg hadn't retired her in time, further proving how vulnerable she is against close-combat specialists.
A good [Queen] should ideally make use of at least two traits of the [Queen] piece, while a perfect [Queen] should be able to utilize all three aspects to reach their full potential.
Not to mention, the [Queen] should also be the second strongest member of the peerage after the [King], as the [Queen] piece holds the highest piece value among all the evil pieces in the possession of a [King]. Although the mutation pieces can be an exception, still…
Given the individuals Seir planned to add to his peerage, Kuisha would likely never be the second strongest member. This is all the more reason why the [Queen] piece is not the best fit for her. The [Bishop] piece would be a much better choice.
Roygun, as if reading Seir's thoughts, said, "A [Queen] isn't necessarily just the second strongest. They are also the second-in-command and the [King]'s most trusted servant. Since you've taken her in at such a young age, she will undoubtedly become your most trusted companion over time."
'There's no such hard and fast rule that makes the [Queen] the automatic second-in-command, sister…' Seir thought to himself. Even in the canon, Ravel Phenex, the [Bishop] of the Red Dragon Emperor's peerage, was considered the second-in-command rather than his [Queen]. It all depended on who was granted that authority. If he chose to give it to Kuisha, she would be second-in-command. If he entrusted it to someone else, then they would hold that position.
Still, he didn't see the point in arguing with Roygun over this. Instead, he simply nodded and said, "Well, I'll decide which piece suits her best when the time comes to reincarnate her into my peerage… and that's still quite a long way off."
"Indeed. Well, it's up to you," Roygun said, accepting his answer, and added in caution, "Just make sure to not regret whatever you do with her…"
As his elder sister, it is her responsibility to advise him, but ultimately, the decisions are his to make. She has no intention of forcing her will upon him. She wants Seir to make his own choices—so long as those choices don't put him in danger or lead him down a path that may harm him or the Belphegor household. As long as that remains the case, she won't interfere too much.
"I know, sister…" Seir nodded. "I know exactly what to do with Kuisha."
Seeing that Seir understood, Roygun smiled and stood up. "Well, I have a few things to take care of, so I'll be heading out… and since it's getting late, you should get some rest." With that, she turned to leave.
Just as she was about to exit the room, Seir called out from behind, "Um, Roygun… what about the promise you made to me? When will we start my training?"
"We'll begin by the end of this week. I have some important matters to handle in these upcoming days, so you'll need to be patient for just a few more days," Roygun replied, adding, "Once I have handled these matters, I will be free for quite a while so I will be able to fully focus on helping you…"
"Alright… I suppose I can wait a few more days," Seir nodded.
"Good boy," she said with a smile, leaning down to kiss his forehead before adding, "For now, get some sleep… you need to rest after that display against Bova Tannin at the gathering."
"Alright…" Seir sighed, rubbing his forehead where Roygun had kissed him earlier. Truth be told, he was indeed feeling rather tired and drowsy.
"Well then, good night, little brother," Roygun said before leaving the room.
"Good night, sister…" murmured Seir in response.
Moments after she left, Zest—wearing a maid uniform—entered the room.
Zest, or Zest B. Steward by her full name, is a tall and beautiful woman with tanned skin, white hair, pointed ears, and striking gold-green eyes. She possesses a slim yet curvaceous figure, with a bust as large as Roygun's, a slender waist, and a well-shaped, sturdy frame accentuated by her shapely hips. Additionally, she has a small rabbit tail and rabbit-ear-shaped horns.
She is a member of Roygun's peerage, serving as one of her [Pawns]. When she is not fighting on the front lines or participating in Rating Games, she works as the deputy maid under Lucia at Roygun's castle.
Arriving inside the room, Zest bowed to Seir and asked him, "Lord Seirios, shall I help you change into your nightwear?"
"I'd like to take a bath first…" Seir said. After all, he had been in a fight, and although a cleaning spell had been used on him while he was unconscious, he still felt a bit uncomfortable and needed a proper bath before falling asleep.
"I understand," Zest nodded. "I shall prepare the bath for you, my lord. Please wait a moment." With that, she made her way to the bathroom attached to his sleeping quarters.
Now alone in the room, Seir gazed at the ceiling with some troublesome thoughts, 'Now I have to figure out what to do about Sairaorg…'
After all, Kuisha was meant to be Sairaorg's [Queen], but now that she had become his servant, who would take that role for Sairaorg?
'Maybe he'll just find someone else… I mean, it's not like there's a shortage of capable people out there.'
Still, a small part of him felt guilty.
He didn't want to simply take something away from an acquaintance and call it a day.
'Since I've gained something from Sairaorg without him even realizing it, it's only fair that I give something back in return…'
Besides, Seir didn't want to take too much from Sairaorg—someone who already had so little—without offering something in exchange.
'I've already set my sights on Lady Misla, and now, without even meaning to, I've taken Kuisha as well. At this point, he barely has anything left… Yeah, someone has to be given to him in return for Kuisha, right?'
He wasn't thinking out of pity… it was just how his code of conduct was speaking. 'If I help someone, I will take something in return. And if I take something from someone, I will make sure to give them something in exchange.'
Of course, there was also a bit of selfishness here.
In Sairaorg's peerage, he and Kuisha were the only truly capable members. Regulus didn't count since he couldn't act without Sairaorg's presence and was technically an extension of Sairaorg's own strength. The rest, while somewhat unique and capable, weren't all that impressive.
In his desire to gather outcasts, rejects, and underdogs like himself, Sairaorg had ended up with a peerage that, realistically, wasn't worth much.
Of course, Sairaorg's peerage was still better than that of most young Devils' peerage… but it wasn't as formidable as Seir had hoped.
'At the very least, Rias Gremory's peerage was far superior to Sairaorg's. The same could be said for the Red Dragon Emperor's peerage. And let's not forget Team Vali—those guys were all leagues ahead of Sairaorg's peerage as well…'
And now, without Kuisha, well… at this rate, his peerage might become a complete waste.
'It'd be too boring if my peerage had no real competition…' This was another reason. Seir wanted a challenge. He didn't want Sairaorg's peerage to be utterly pathetic—where would the fun be in that?
As someone Seir could consider a rival, Sairaorg's peerage needed to be impressive as well, right?
'Sigh… I suppose I should guide a capable person toward him,' he thought, nodding to himself.
And he already had someone in mind.
'Though I don't know if that person would be willing to serve Sairaorg…'
That said, their personalities and backgrounds were somewhat similar, and both sought the same thing—' recognition.' Sairaorg had a way of inspiring others with his charisma and determination in the canon, and Seir feels that this person might be drawn to him as well. He had no doubt that Sairaorg's presence and ideals would resonate with him, just as they had with so many others.
Right now, that person is a nobody with no real recognition or prospects as he is just a bland man with bland family background and bland abilities. Even his Sacred Gear isn't particularly remarkable at the moment, but in time, it will evolve into something truly powerful.
'Yeah, I think he is the perfect choice, and he'll probably get along well with Sairaorg…'
In fact, if not for the fact that he is a man, Seir would have wanted that person for himself—he would have made the perfect [Queen]. Alas, it's a guy.
'But oh well, it doesn't matter. There are still plenty of strong candidates for that role…'
Tia-mommy and Sleeping Beauty are both solid options. 'I wonder which of these two would make a better queen?'
As Seir mulled over his thoughts, Zest's voice broke through his contemplation. "My lord, the bath is ready…"
"Hm? Alright… let's go," Seir nodded, rising to his feet and making his way to the bathroom to take a bath with Zest's help.

On the other side, Lucia led Kuisha to a room not far from where Seir was staying and guided her inside. "This will be your room from now on," she said before pointing at the small carton box kept on the table and added, "Your belongings have already been moved here, so you can arrange them however you like."
"I understand, ma'am," Kuisha murmured softly, walking towards the carton box.
Lucia continued, "Several sets of uniforms have been placed in the wardrobe. Those will be your attire on working days, so keep that in mind."
'Uniform?' Kuisha blinked in surprise as she turned around, 'What uniforms?' but upon glancing at Lucia's outfit, she immediately understood. 'Oh, right. The maid uniform, or course…' She gave a small nod. "Yes, I'll be sure to wear the uniform, ma'am."
Lucia added, "If you need anything, be sure to inform me."
Kuisha nodded again. "Alright, I will keep that in mind."
Satisfied that everything was clear, Lucia turned to leave. As she stepped through the doorway, she paused and spoke over her shoulder, "Oh, and one more thing… Your training begins tomorrow morning at exactly 5:00 AM. I will personally come to fetch you, so be ready by then—dressed in the uniform."
Just before closing the door, her tone turned sharp and serious. "Failure to comply will result in punishment."
"Yes… ma'am…" Kuisha murmured with a nod, staring at the closed door.
Now left alone in the room, Kuisha sighed as she took in her surroundings. The room was five times the size of the one she had spent the last six years of her life in.
"It's too big…" she murmured, feeling a bit uncomfortable with the sudden change. But it wasn't as if she had a choice.
Shaking her head, she muttered to herself, "At least I won't be bullied here…" Then, in a less confident tone, she added, "I hope so…" She wasn't sure if the people here would be kind to her or if she would face the same treatment as before.
A nervous feeling settled in her chest, but she quickly shook it off. "Lord Seirios didn't shun me away despite learning of my parentage… It'll probably be alright… I should think positively."
With that in mind, she shifted her focus to the carton box. "Right, I need to arrange my stuff…" She was about to begin when her eyes landed on the clock, and they nearly popped out of their sockets.
"It's already past midnight… and I have to be ready before 5:00 AM when she comes to pick me up…"
Being ready didn't just mean waking up—it meant being bathed, groomed, and fully prepared, as expected of a maid. That meant she would have to wake up before 4:30 AM at the latest.
"Less than four hours…" she muttered. "I don't have time to arrange my stuff… I'll do it later."
Nodding to herself, she hurriedly prepared for bed, determined to get whatever rest she could.
'Mother… please watch over me…' she thought as she lay down, hoping sleep would come quickly. But in this new and unfamiliar place, whether she would actually be able to sleep was anyone's guess.
