Chapter 17
“Then I’ll contact you later. I have a lecture now.”
“Okay!”
Wonhyeok, returning to campus, said goodbye to Hangeom. Looking back, he saw that Hangeom was still standing in place, staring intently after him.
When he entered the auditorium for the general education subject, Kang Yubin raised his hand. He had reserved a seat in advance and, removing his bag, playfully stared at Wonhyeok.
“Hey, I had to eat lunch alone because of you.”
“Sorry.”
“So what was that urgent matter?”
“Everything was resolved well.”
Wonhyeok answered differently and changed the subject, making it clear that he didn’t want to discuss it further.
In fact, the first to notice Hangeom absentmindedly standing in front of the kiosk in the cafeteria was not Kang Yubin, but Wonhyeok himself. When he was staring intently at one point, Kang Yubin, noticing the object of his gaze, approached Hangeom.
The way he looked at the menu wasn’t like someone pondering what to eat. Partly it was due to Wonhyeok’s good insight, but the lie about the meeting was also very clumsy.
Although he knew there was no reason to worry, he was still concerned about Hangeom’s drooping shoulders as he left the cafeteria again. Despite being irritated by his own state, Wonhyeok ended up lying about an urgent matter and, leaving Yubin, followed Hangeom.
When he saw Hangeom in the club room holding a package with a triangular kimbap and opening his eyes wide, his irritation increased.
Moreover, he was even more irritated by how Hangeom shyly blushed, like a dog wagging its tail at the sight of its owner.
“Well, let’s start the class.”
The professor entered and turned on the presentation on the screen. Kang Yubin already had a tired look, propped his chin and stared ahead.
Recognizing the affection expressed by others was as easy for Wonhyeok as playing the role of a good person. Usually, this affection is divided into two types: one is the self-interested affection of those who want to get at least some crumbs by clinging to rumors about a rich dominant alpha, and the other is sexual affection.
In fact, it would be harder not to notice that the affection expressed by Kang Hangeom was closer to the second type. Perhaps because he has very white skin, it was very easy to see how he shyly blushed at any action of Wonhyeok.
Honestly, it can’t be said that it was completely uninteresting to observe. It was very different from those who approached Wonhyeok with obvious desires. Most people try to attract his attention by flaunting their “weapons,” rather than behaving like a country puppy that just wags its tail at the sight of its owner, like Kang Hangeom.
“In this sense, we can say that a person is a purposeful animal.”
Among the boring content of the lecture, a phrase that attracted attention sounded. Wonhyeok focused on the presentation for the first time since the beginning of the class.
“We have an instinctive tendency to move forward to achieve something. For example, how you come to my boring classes to graduate from university.”
Laughter rolled through the auditorium in response to the professor’s witty joke.
Wonhyeok tapped his finger on the handout.
For the sake of a goal.
Yes, perhaps the proposal of a meaningless relationship to Kang Hangeom was also a continuation of this.
Kang Hangeom was the only person who accidentally saw Wonhyeok’s true nature. And even twice. Once in the alley behind the beer bar during the club meeting, and the other time – recently during the rut.
Judging by Hangeom’s character, he was unlikely to maliciously spread this, but since he was very inattentive, it was necessary to monitor and control so that he wouldn’t accidentally blurt it out somewhere. Moreover, if the rut incident could somehow be explained, the case in the beer bar alley required special caution.
And, honestly, it would be a lie to say that he wasn’t bothered at all by the rut incident. If Kang Hangeom said somewhere that Do Wonhyeok forced him into sex during rut and then abandoned him, it could undermine everything he had so carefully built up until now.
One thing that bothered him was that not only his member had been in that ass. Although from the outside appearance it didn’t look like such promiscuity at all, Wonhyeok had seen something.
When he was walking Hangeom home yesterday, unable to stop him in time, he followed him to clarify the misunderstanding.
“It’s late already, let’s go up. Although it’s March, it’s still cold at night, right?”
But seeing how some man friendly put his arm around Hangeom’s shoulders and entered the building together with him, Wonhyeok turned around and left.
“They say the quiet cat is the first to climb onto the stove.”
Wonhyeok mumbled very quietly, gritting his teeth. At this moment, Kang Yubin nudged his arm.
“Hey, why are you crumpling the paper?”
“Ah…”
He thought he was just lightly tapping his fingers, but it turned out that Wonhyeok had already crumpled the paper with his hand. Moreover, he wasn’t even aware of it.
When he thought about how Hangeom probably gasped in the arms of numerous one-night partners with the same face as then, his mood strangely worsened.
Since they started dating, he was going to find out how promiscuous a lifestyle Hangeom leads. Although it’s unlikely he would continue such behavior when he has a boyfriend.
To summarize, it can be said that this relationship with Kang Hangeom was Wonhyeok’s plan to achieve several goals. Moreover, it can’t be said that he didn’t like playing with Hangeom, who behaved so cutely in front of him.
“I w-want to date you, senior.”
He agreed so quickly when Wonhyeok suggested dating. The shining eyes, as if reflecting the ripples on the lake, constantly flickered before his eyes.
“Hey, Do Wonhyeok. The class is over. What are you doing?”
Yubin, tapping on the table, again drew Wonhyeok’s attention. As he said, looking around, he saw that the screen with the presentation had long since gone dark, and the professor was nowhere to be seen. Students were hurriedly gathering their things and leaving the auditorium, noisily moving chairs.
“Indeed.”
Wonhyeok also began to gather his things. Looking at his classmate, Kang Yubin squinted.
“What happened? The great Do Wonhyeok didn’t even focus on the lecture?”
“Me? No, it’s not like that.”
“How is it not like that. And you can still say that, looking at this?”
Kang Yubin reached out and pointed at Wonhyeok’s handout. The lecture materials, not even turned from the first page, confirmed her words.
“What’s wrong, did something really happen to you?”
Leaving the auditorium, Kang Yubin asked with obvious interest, but Wonhyeok just smiled and replied that nothing had happened.
“Kim Seonu will finish soon too. Shall we go have dinner? There’s a promotion at the chicken place ahead until the end of the month.”
Hm, Wonhyeok thought for a moment.
“No, I’ll pass.”
“What, do you have plans?”
“Seems like I will.”
Hearing such an indefinite answer, Kang Yubin tilted her head, but Wonhyeok just waved his hand. Although a puzzled look from his classmate followed behind his back, he didn’t even pay attention to it.
Wonhyeok took out the phone he had put in his bag. When he said goodbye to Hangeom earlier, he said he would contact him later, but probably with high probability, Kang Hangeom had already left a message first. Well, such an assumption was quite possible.
Maybe he sent a message asking when classes end, or suggesting to have dinner together, or something like that. Wonhyeok smirked and opened the messenger, but there were no messages from Kang Hangeom anywhere.
“…”
Wonhyeok’s steps, descending the stairs, abruptly stopped, and his eyebrows twitched slightly. Wonhyeok thought for a moment and then sent a message to Hangeom.
[Hangeom, where are you? Are classes over already?]
Maybe he’s in the club room? Not knowing the exact schedule, he could be in class. If so, it was understandable why he couldn’t send a message.
Thinking that he needed to find out the schedule first, he waited for the “1” icon on the message to disappear, but even after some time nothing changed. From the sudden surge of dissatisfaction, Wonhyeok immediately dialed Hangeom’s number and called.
If he’s in class, he’ll reject the call himself. He didn’t want to show any attention. After several seconds of long beeps, when Wonhyeok was about to sigh with frustration, there was a click, and the other person answered the call.
– H-hello?
“It’s me. You didn’t answer the message.”
The corners of his mouth, which he had raised with difficulty, trembled.
– Did you send a message? I just took a shower and came out, probably that’s why I didn’t see it.
“Took a shower? Where?”
– What? At h-home, of course.
Hearing Hangeom’s answer, Wonhyeok growled low. Although he was a bit frustrated by his premature thoughts, the word “home” immediately caught his attention.
“Hangeom, are you at home?”
– Yes. I came straight home after meeting with the senior. I didn’t have any more classes.
His expectations were completely unfulfilled. He thought that even if there were no classes, Hangeom would wait for him on his own.
– Senior, did your classes just end?
“Yes.”
– Then you must be tired.
“No, not really…”
– Go home quickly and rest well!
While he was unconsciously answering “Uh,” Hangeom ended the conversation with a cheerful goodbye “See you.”
The inscription “Call ended” on the black screen seemed especially clear. Wonhyeok, standing in an uncomfortable place on the stairs and meaninglessly looking at the phone, suddenly laughed.
