The Probability of Becoming a Couple with Your Beloved

Chapter 2

There weren’t many moments when one could meet Wonhyeok at the university. If choosing places where he could be seen most often, it would be the cafeteria and the lounge on the first floor of the humanities department.

According to the results of diligent observations, Wonhyeok used the cafeteria at least once a week. However, the days varied, so to see him, one had to “check in” at the cafeteria every day.

‘Ah, there’s the senior.’

Hangeom was again sitting in front of a plate of fried pork with rice, just like yesterday, but his gaze was directed elsewhere. He was worried that the senior might not come today, but fortunately, Wonhyeok entered the cafeteria, shining with his dazzling figure.

Wonhyeok, dressed in a thin sweater and jeans, with a fresh face as always, stood in line with his classmates. Looking at his radiant smile, Hangeom felt the fatigue of the day instantly disappear.

In the two weeks since the start of the semester, there wasn’t a day when Hangeom didn’t meet Wonhyeok, whether in the humanities building or in the cafeteria. It seemed he had no free hours this semester. Keeping this information in his head, Hangeom continued to follow Wonhyeok with his eyes.

When Wonhyeok entered, some students in the cafeteria interrupted their meals and turned their heads.

‘The idol of the English department at Korea University.’

There was no particular reason why he was called that. He just had a bright appearance like an idol, and moreover, he was a real angel, showing kindness and smiling at everyone. Also, the fact that he was a dominant alpha, a rare type in Korea, played its role.

In modern society, laws against discrimination based on type have strengthened, and cases of neglect or humiliation based on type have significantly decreased, but admiration for dominant alphas hasn’t disappeared. Considering that among successful businessmen and celebrities in Korea, there were many dominant alphas, this type was considered quite special.

‘Of course, I would love the senior regardless of whether he’s a dominant alpha or not.’

While Hangeom was pondering this, he saw Wonhyeok sit at the table right in front of him. What luck – to have the opportunity to see the senior so close. Indeed, this semester was definitely different from others.

“Ah, is it true that there are so many group projects this semester? I already feel the stress accumulating.”

This was said by Kim Seonu, classmate “1”, with whom Wonhyeok often communicated.

“But we need to do it to finish our studies.”

Wonhyeok said this with a smile. How can he so easily say such realistic things? He had a kind but determined character.

On days when Hangeom managed to create a situation to see Wonhyeok, and he was actually lucky enough to meet him, he absorbed Wonhyeok’s facial expressions, actions, and gestures with his eyes. Since he knew well that his presence was barely noticeable, he could use this without risking being discovered.

“Hey, Do Wonhyeok. Are you really not going to join a club?”

Kang Yubin, classmate “2”, with whom Wonhyeok got along well, asked in a whiny voice.

“Yubin, are you on about that again?”

“I’m saying this because I feel sorry. Hey, Kim Seonu, you help quickly too.”

Kim Seonu and Kang Yubin started to discuss something animatedly, forgetting even about their food. At this moment, Hangeom was still looking at Do Wonhyeok.

‘The senior isn’t smiling.’

Since he always observed him, it wasn’t difficult for Hangeom to catch fleeting facial expressions. He had been following and observing Wonhyeok for more than a year, since his very admission to the university.

Wonhyeok was beautiful, cute, and kind to everyone, be it seniors, juniors, or classmates, and had a proper character, but sometimes, very rarely, he showed a face that was barely noticeable. Yes, like now – an expression as if everything bored him, as if his soul had left his body. Although even this expression was so beautiful that it was a problem in itself.

Maybe he was looking for too long? Or somehow Wonhyeok felt his barely noticeable gaze? By a strange coincidence, Wonhyeok turned his head, and their gazes met.

Hangeom fearfully lowered his head, almost burying his face in the plate. He completely forgot about the second rule of observation. How could he forget that one shouldn’t look for longer than 5 seconds? Now he couldn’t look at the senior here anymore today.

If their gazes met once more, it would be really bad. Hangeom finished his food without regret and left the cafeteria.

Not knowing that Wonhyeok’s gaze followed him, he headed to the club room.

“Hangeom came?”

“Hello, president.”

“Yeah, there’s not much time left when you can call me president, so enjoy it while you can.”

Bae Seokwoo, the president of this book club and a senior in the creative writing department, muttered without enthusiasm, lying on the couch. Next to him sat Baek Woojin, playing a game. Hangeom exchanged a brief greeting with him and sat on the couch.

“Is our club finally going to close?”

At this calm question, Bae Seokwoo jumped up from the couch as if on a spring.

“Kang Hangeom, you bastard. You seem to like hitting sore spots?”

“Hyung, he always has such a character. That’s why he doesn’t have a single friend in the department.”

“Woojin, you don’t have that many friends either.”

“Hey, I…”

Woojin flared up, but then dejectedly muttered, “Actually, that’s true…”

“It’s okay. Having no friends is not a flaw at all.”

Recently, the atmosphere in the club wasn’t very good due to the lack of new members they needed to recruit this year. They were just one person short, but they couldn’t find them, so everyone, from the president to all club members, was running around searching.

Hangeom wanted to help too, but he really had no friends to invite, so he just sat quietly.

“Ah, this year is really dangerous.”

“President, don’t worry. I’m hanging posters everywhere, so at least one person should come.”

“Hangeom, you’re always so positive, I envy you.”

“Thank you for the compliment.”

At this, both Bae Seokwoo and Baek Woojin laughed, almost resigned.

“But the problem is that your appearance doesn’t show it at all. Hey, can you even see?”

Hangeom reflexively touched his hair when Woojin waved his palm in front of his eyes.

The black hair covering his eyes was so thick that it could seem stuffy to other people. Hangeom wasn’t particularly interested in style, and he also wore glasses, so his appearance was unlikely to make a good impression.

“Yes. I can see.”

“Do you ever get haircuts?”

“I trim it a bit myself when I really can’t see.”

Nearby, Bae Seokwoo muttered that he was an amazing guy. Soon the topic of conversation again shifted from Hangeom’s appearance to the survival of the club, but no clear solution was found.

“Okay, guys, I have a lecture, so I’m going.”

“Hyung, I’m with you. I need to go too.”

“Alright. And you, Hangeom?”

“I don’t have classes all day today, so I’ll stay. And if by chance a freshman wanting to join comes, I’ll be here and look after everything.”

“Mm. The fact that you say that really calms me down.”

After the two left, Hangeom, left alone in the club room, took a book out of his bag. The detective novel he had been reading recently was already finished, so he took a new book. It was a work that had been slowly gaining popularity on the internet lately.

He started reading without much expectation, but found the book quite interesting. It hadn’t been five minutes before Hangeom was immersed in the world of the book.

There was no particular reason why he came to love reading. Just from childhood, not being able to communicate well with people either at home or outside, he chose books as a way to learn about the world, and unexpectedly this hobby turned into a passion.

Reading without interruption, he suddenly realized it was time to go to the lecture. While gathering his things, Hangeom looked at one spot. The stack of membership applications on the table remained untouched today as well.

It would be a bit sad if the club closed. All the club members were good and kind people. In the modern world, where reading culture is gradually disappearing, having the opportunity to share this hobby with at least a few people was a great blessing for Hangeom.

“How to find even one person…”

Although, saying this, Hangeom couldn’t think of any solution either. With a slightly drooping hand, he grabbed the doorknob and opened the door, and at that moment a black shadow appeared before him.

Hangeom naturally raised his head. And froze in place.

“Ah, is someone here?”

Bam-

As soon as Hangeom heard the voice, he immediately closed the door again.

‘S-senior? Was that just the senior? No, it can’t be. The senior can’t be here. T-then someone who looks like him?’

But the assumption of the existence of a person similar to the senior was impossible. So he must have been mistaken. Now he even started seeing illusions of the senior. Thinking he had reached his limit, he opened the door again.

“Am I not allowed to enter?”

Do Wonhyeok spoke again, smiling softly. It wasn’t a similar person or an illusion, but the real him. When Hangeom tried to close the door again, Wonhyeok frowned. Then he put his hand in the gap and pressed.

“Hey, why embarrass the person who came like this? You’re a student of the English department too, right?”

“What? Y-you know me?”

Surprised, Hangeom let go of the doorknob. Because of this, Wonhyeok’s body, which was pressing on the door from outside, swayed strongly forward.

“Ah, damn…”

At this moment, Wonhyeok unconsciously cursed and looked at Hangeom in surprise.

“Senior, d-do you know me?”

But Hangeom, whose brain had already overloaded from the appearance of his beloved and his words, didn’t even hear Wonhyeok’s curse.

“Ah, yes. Last time at the vending machine in the lounge.”

“Ah.”

Of course. Hangeom quickly dismissed his hopes.

“Then I saw that the book you were holding said ‘2nd year English department’.”

Wonhyeok, smiling with his eyes, skillfully looked Hangeom up and down. Of course, it would be unrealistic to remember all the people you accidentally bump into, but not remembering someone who looks so strange would be even stranger.

“B-but why are you here…”

“Ah, right. Can I meet the club president?”

Wonhyeok’s voice, remembering that Hangeom was his junior, became shorter again.

“What? Why do you need the president?”

Hangeom quickly adjusted his slipping glasses.

“I want to join the club.”

Hearing this, Hangeom blinked. The words that came out of Wonhyeok’s mouth didn’t immediately reach him.

“J-join? Do you mean the joining I’m thinking of?”

Wonhyeok quietly laughed. At this laugh, resembling a fresh spring breeze, Hangeom froze.

“Is there another meaning to the word ‘join’?”

“Ah, that is… T-the president just left for a lecture…”

“Ah, really?”

Wonhyeok stared intently at Hangeom, who had lowered his head. From the top of his head to the tips of his fingers, there wasn’t a drop of style in him. I wonder if he can see anything with such long hair? It was unclear why he wore such large glasses. The black sweatshirt, completely unsuitable for this fresh season, looked stuffy even to look at.

Moreover, judging by the fact that he was in this room, it seemed this guy was a member of the book club. Wonhyeok thought he was very well suited for such a quiet club.

“Then I’ll come later.”

Wonhyeok turned to leave. But suddenly he felt someone grab his clothes from behind.

“E-excuse me, senior. If it’s not too much trouble, m-maybe you could wait? I think the president will finish the lecture soon, I can call him, and he’ll come right away…”

Wonhyeok’s impassive face turned to the white hand that had grabbed his clothes. The tips of the thin fingers were colored red.
