Chapter 484: Break My Heart, As Always [2]
[RUKIYA]
[FLASHBACK]
[Five Years Ago, days after Hawi's Rejection]
"Well, she won't be paying whatever she owes you, because she died. We heard from the Sicario wolves that she died after the rejection by her mate. Anyway, good luck finding her, or whatever remains of her," the rogue had said, breaking Rukiya's heart into bits.
The words from the rogues still lingered on Ruiya's mind even after finding Hawi. she had been haunted by them so much so that even though she was running a meeting with the Grayson council. Her thoughts were filled with Hawi.
She was scared of what Hawi would do, where she would go, or even how she wud; handle herself. Rukiya Greyson had seen just how broken the Sicario girl was and she wanted to fix Hawi.
She wanted to be useful to the girl she loved even though she knew she would be rejected over and over again. She knew Hawi hated being cared for and even that didn't stop her from wondering what had happened to Hawi.
A part of Ruru wanted to go to war with all of Sicario of Hawi, just to make her feel better, but she knew this would be more for her than Hawi.
Her heart was still broken because of everything that happened to Hawi and she hated herself for being so powerful and utterly useless.
She had done everything possible to try and get close to Hawi and yet each time, her efforts always ended up with someone saying that Hawi was dead. That wasn't the news she wanted, relay.
When she first learned that Hawi was dead, Rukiya mourned the wild Sicario girl like she had mourned her father, Alpha Draffin Greyson. She had lost her mind and had spent her nights and days crying for Hawi.
Rukiya had mourned the girl who probably didn't know her, the girl who would possibly never want her because Hawi had always had a mate, a male one. Rukiya mourned the love she had for the girl she had failed to approach in time.
She mourned the happiness she had seen on Hawi's face when the woman had come out to the free lands to save.
Oh, she had mourned everything about Hawi at that time. It wasn't what she had wanted, but that one instance had scarred her so much that the entirety of Greyson had felt her pain.
Granted, none of them had come to ask her shit, but they knew their alpha was mourning. She was in so much pain like she was mourning a mate.
The council meetings were just for appearance for her, because even in those meetings, she was scared she would never see Her again. So, in one of those meetings, she just got up and walked out like she wasn't the alpha.
The council members wanted to question her, but even they could see the pain in her eyes.
She had been having empty eyes for the longest time, so they knew it wasn't as easy for her. Defeatedly, she went for a run, but even then she knew this wouldn't numb her pain. Perhaps she could simply hope to see Hawi in her next life, right?

[Still five years ago, The day of Malika and Jer's Wedding]
Rukiya's eyes had been on Hawi the whole time, even as Malika walked off the podium with Jer. She had been watching the banished alpha, watching her every move, like Rukiya wanted to be there for her, even if Hawi didn't want her to.
Her gentle eyes were focused on Hawi, as if to remind Hawi that even without Malika, she would still have someone looking out for her, someone stranger than all the wolves here except for her, someone who wouldn't mind leaving everything for her.
And it was also then that Rukiya knew something was wrong with Hawi. It wasn't what she had expected, but as the murmurs continued in the crowd, the realization of what was happening hit her so hard as she rushed to where Hawi was.
'Fuck,' Hawi had said as she let herself give in to the darkness that had been pulling her. She had tried to remain sane, to hold on, but the pain in her heart and the reality that she was slowly being roped into weren't doing her any justice.
However, before Hawi's body hit the ground, and even before anyone noticed that she was not feeling so well, Hawi felt a wind hush past her. It was too fast, but then she didn't even care anymore because she was unconscious and couldn't tell what was right and what was wrong.
"What am I doing here…. No, what are you doing here?" Hawi asked as she looked around her to find Rukiya, Adolf, and the Clarksons seated next to her bed. Rukiya's eyes were filled with so much pain and a desire to make things better.
She had known that shit was bound to happen everywhere. But she hated that each time it happened to the woman that she loved so dearly. She only ever wanted her Hawi to be happy.
Was that too much for her as even if she knew there was a chance Awuor Hawi would never choose her?
"Alpha Awuor, you fainted at the wedding, and Rukiya brought you home," Alpha Clarkson said and Hawi let out a growl at the mention of Rukiya. She hadn't wanted Rukiya anywhere near her, but fate was a stubborn son of a bitch, no?
But then at her growl, Rukiya's heart sank even further into her stomach. Hawi was always reminding her of how she wasn't wanted around, but Rukiya was never one to take the hint, not when she had hope that someday, she could heal the love of her life.
It hurt to keep holding on like that. It broke her heart to be the one on standby each time, but then what else could she do? She was in love and despite what the universe or even Hawi were screaming at her, Rukiya Greyson refused to be away from Hawi.
Sure, she knew her efforts would never pay, but as long as her Hawi was okay. As long as Hawi didn't cry anymore, as long as Hawi let herself live, Rukiya would be happy. Oh, how she loved the broken girl from Sicario.
"Oww… Just call me Hawi, or Awuor. I'm not an alpha anymore. Anyway, about the wedding, why am I here? Is Malika okay? What happened to her?" Hawi asked as she tried to pull the covers off of her, but Rukiya kept the covers on her.
"If you insist on removing the covers, I will stay here longer than I planned," Rukiya said nonchalantly, knowing so well that it would stop Hawi from getting off the bed, and it worked, much to Rukiya's disappointment.
Then again, it wasn't like she didn't know Hawi didn't want her here.
"I hate you," Hawi said to Rukiya, the sincerity in her voice slicing through Rukiya's heart and for a moment, Rukiya felt like she had been stabbed in the heart. She knew this was going to happen and even then, she had swooped in.
Her heart just couldn't take the hint. Maybe it would, but would it really, when Hawi was a disheveled hot messy bundle staring at her with beautiful eyes she wanted to get lost in for eternity?
"What happened to you? You fainted at the wedding, it's a good thing I got you here on time. You were hyperventilating, and calling for—" Rukiya began, before stopping mid-sentence and Hawi looked at her like she was bonkers.
