Chapter 492: The Cruel Game of Fates
[HAWI]
"Malika… you're seeing her too, right?"
"I'm seeing them," Malika breathed.
"Them?" Hawi asked as she rubbed the dust off of her face like she was supposed to see them clearly. This was more than they had bargained for really and it was almost a shocker, how easily they had gotten to this point when they had been in the temple.
"I see Ruru and Lihle," Malika said softly as she looked at her sister and the alpha who seemed to be in so much pain. They were trying to register what the fuck was happening, but it was all just so confusing.
For two of the smartest creatures in the realm, they sure are slow, even as Hawi got up, determined to endure the pain in her thigh just to see whether they were on the same page with Malika.
"Fucking hell… Ruru is here too?" Hawi said once she saw what was right before her. Her beautiful mate looks like she has gone through all the stages of grief. She looked like she had endured enough pain and yet she was almost at the edge of the cliff.
"Did you create the right portal?" Hawi asked her heart breaking at the possibility that this was not just a midgame because of the Russels.
They had been around magic too much that it was going to take her a minute to take in the sight before her and understand what the fuck was happening.
The fates had been kind to them and yet at the same time, they had been too cruel and had fucked then up in ways more than once. The past few days on this island taught Malika and Hawi not to believe everything they saw, even if it was their loved one.
And it was a pity, because, at the moment, it was as real as it could get, and they still were in disbelief.
"I did, Mistress. It's impossible for these two to be where though. They shouldn't be here. Maybe we truly went to a different timeline," Malika said as she walked closer to her sister who was just standing there.
The Mbali she had expected would be throwing tantrums at how late Malika had found her. Her sister would already be throwing things at her and wanting to rip her head off for that same mistake.
Malika knew her sister enough to understand that Mbali had the temper of a hundred devils, and she was uncontrollable when she was angry.
The mission to the sacred island was as scary for Mbali as it was for anyone on the Savasci team, and it was expected that Mbali would charge at her sister for pushing her away.
After all, only Malika would be that crazy to send her away and not let her into the battlefield. But then at the same time, it wasn't making it clear for the duo because they wanted to think that life had decided to play the long game with them.
But what were the odds that this was truly a hallucination?
"Damn the Russels for doing this to us. Alright, take us back then. We need to finish them off now that I'm certainly not going back into that dusty temple," Hawi said in defeat as she relaxed while Malika cast another spell.
However, each portal spells she cast brought them back to this particular moment.
They couldn't make a run from it and they couldn't understand what the fuck was going on. Each time they portaled back here, the screams from Rukiya were growing slower, like she was losing her sanity and letting it all go.
She had been through much and Hawi knew that too, which was why she had agreed for Malika to send her mate through; it wasn't the best of things for her at the time, but now, she wasn't sure she wanted to lose sight of Ruru anymore.
"We keep coming back to this timeline, Hawi…" Malika trailed off in confusion as she looked at the fight before her getting clearer.
Her sister was there and Rukiya had a blade lodged in her thigh. It wasn't how the both of them had intended to come back home but gods be damned if they let this go this time.
This was the kind of reality that they hadn't been readied for and the fact that it took them a while to process it just showed how hard they had been fucked by the Russels. This was worse than karma and nothing would ever match it, ever.
Perhaps they just had to figure it out or make sure that this was as real as it seemed for them, right?
"Do you think—"
"It's real. We are on the right timeline. They are here, Hawi," Malika said carefully, like she was worried that this was another twisted mind game by the Russels. Life hadn't been fair to them for the longest time, but this right here was as fucked up as it could get.
"But they should be in Sicario? Should they have kept them in?" Hawi asked as she turned to look at Malika. She wasn't one to act without thinking, but it was as tempting. Fuck she hated the Russels for doing this to them.
"Rukiya has a blade in her thigh, Mistress," Malika pointed out what she had seen like that was supposed to make this all better in an instant, or even reel theme into the fact that they were not overthinking it this time.
Hell, this was the worst thing that she could ever figure out.
This wasn't what she had hoped for and yet here they all were, facing things that were too cruel. This was cruelty at worst and as Malika stared at her sister who was staring at her, she couldn't help but wonder what in the hell had happened to them.
"What the fuck happened here?" Malika asked as she looked closer and saw that the blade was Mbali's. Surely it made no sense that her sister would try to kill their friend, right?
They had all been friends before the motion and they had been loyal to each other over time.
So, what the fuck was happening with her sister stabbing one of them? Had the fates really screwed them that much for them to have no recollection of the simplest of shits out there? What was the reason for all of this anyway?
"That's what I'd like to know too, because this is as insane as it gets," Hawi said as she tried to use her speed to get to Ruru.
But then the blade was still pulling them apart. It was like she couldn't do much with the blade in Rukiya's thigh, but Hawi refused to let her mate suffer like this. She had to get to her and make sure Rukiya was alright.
Granted, she was feeling pain because of the bond they shared, but Hawi was haunted by the amount of pain the love of her life who had taken the direct hit, was feeling. This wasn't what she had promised Rukiya when she had sworn her life to her.
This wasn't fair and Hawi wanted to scream at the world. But until then, she would crawl to her mate, even if that was the last thing she would ever do for Rukiya.
"We did it, Ruru. She's here now… Actually, both of them are here" Mbali said as she pulled the blade from Rukiya's thighs, making the woman cry out in agony.
