Chapter 541: I’m Certain That I’m Yours
* Happy new month of November!!
[SICARIO]
"Something changed," Hudhayfah said as he woke up with a gasp.
"I think I like the change," a voice said in earnest, making Hudhayfah shriek and fall to the floor. However, before his body could hit the ground, he found himself floating uncomfortably in the air, making him sigh in disbelief and relief at the same time.
He had been so attentive the entire day and the fact that this was one that had gone past him, was meant to worry him.
But was it really that with this particular person? Was that all there ever was between them or was this just the reminder of the afternoon that had been insanely busy for the rest of them?
"I worked so hard to get to you that I wouldn't let you hurt your pretty self, Perihan," Trey said as he gently brought Hudhayfah back to the bed that they were apparently sharing, which had clearly not been in Hudhayfah's mind.
"What are you—"
"Doing here?" Trey completed with a smirk like he wanted to tease the hell out of his mate who was still gathering his thoughts. This wasn't the time to make jokes, but surely, they were mated, right, so there was no point in trying to fuck that up this soon, no?
Hudhayfah stared at him blankly as if to remind the man that they both knew what had happened and how they had ended up sharing the bed; this was graciously on top of the things that Hudhayfah wasn't sure was the best of ideas or the worst of all the gambles he had dared in all of history.
"What are you doing right now? Please let me down," Hudhayfah said softly and Trey stared at him like he had suggested the most unrealistic of things. Perhaps that was one and the same, but the smirk on Trey's face hadn't left just yet.
"I would never let you down, my beautiful Perihan. Never. I'd give up my life for you, especially now that you're wearing my mark, pretty," Trey said as he looked at the mark on his mate's neck, a reminder to everyone that the great healer was taken.
Maybe it was not the best time for this, but then with the Savasci knights, there was never a good time for anything. If there was an issue, they would work it out and make sure that all was well.
Trey had a miller make on his neck, the perfect reminder that they had consummated and completed the mating process. It had been a beautiful moment to bliss, one that had Trey yearning for more but he didn't want to tire his mate this soon.
Besides, anyone who was walking the hallways close to their door was definitely aware of what had happened in that room.
"I know," Hudhayfah said as he stared at his mark on Trey.
This chaotic bastard of the bastards was his, and he wouldn't change that for anything. He loved him, even if so much time had passed and they still had a lot of catching up to do. That was all that mattered.
That Trey was here and wasn't leaving again.
Trey had pledged his life to Hudhayfah's, and even if he hadn't done that, Hudhayfah knew that they had both been lost souls who had yearned for each other for twelve hundred years.
That was the kind of timeline that even the moon goddess wouldn't dare to let the fates mess with. This was the most protected relationship and it was a beautiful one, thankfully.
"I love you," Trey said for the hundredth time in the past hour and Hudhayfah just smiled sheepishly. He wouldn't ever get tired of hearing that from Trey because he knew he was genuine and Hudhayfah's heart was beating a little too fast too.
"I will always be yours; body, mind, and soul," Hudhayfah whispered before he leaned to kiss Trey on the lips. That was just distracting enough for the Russel to settle his mate beside him in bed, back to the position that Hudhayfah had been in.
His arms, were where Hudhayfah was safest and loved and protected by all that there ever was.
"Something is truly different," Trey said and Hudhayfah glared at him for repeating his words to him. This wasn't how this was supposed to go, but then Hudhayfah hadn't woken up today with the thought of his gorgeous mate making a show or the fucking senseless. "The queen is out of the kingdom," Trey added, and to that, Hudhayfah sat up, with Trey following suit. This was not something that any would take easily to. For the two hundred years that they had had the queen, the woman was always in the realm.
"What? Why?" Hudhayfah asked and Trey stared at him softly.
"If I tell you, promise me you won't freak out," Trey added, making Hudhayfa look at him incredulously. However, one look at Treys' face and Hudhayfah realized that this wasn't just about the realm anymore.
He could see that Trey was trying to protect him, which was a strange feeling because the way he was looking at him screamed that Hudhayfah was his world.
Maybe times had truly changed, but even if that was so, what could have prompted the sudden desire for trust or even the unconventional statement that had come from Trey then?
"I am not a—" Hudhayfah tried and Trey interrupted him ever so casually.
"You have been carrying the burden of leadership for the longest time, angel. You've been taking care of everyone, and I'm not saying you shouldn't take care of them. They are your people, and you love them.
"But within and beyond these walls, let me take care of you as my mate. Let me make up for the time I lost and the time I stayed away. Let me be the one to bear the brunt of the heavy things that need to be sorted.
"Let me be the shoulder you rest on when everything is overwhelming. Let me love you, let me be there for you," Trey said in earnest. His voice was reassuring, and unexpectedly it made Hudhayfah's shoulders relax like he was truly home.
If anything, Hudhayfah didn't object when Trey pulled him close and let Hudhayfah rest his head on his shoulders. It was quite literal, but they both knew what Trey had meant and how it would change a lot of things in their lives.
But then at least Hudhayfah had someone who would protect him, no? After all, Amina Russel wouldn't rest if her brother was hurt. They could all take care of each other like one big family, no?
"It's going to take a lot to get used to, Trey. I haven't been on the receiving end one too many times, and I haven't had someone I could cry to openly without feeling like I was burdening them.
"Of course, the knights are my word and we help each other out. But… What I mean is I haven't been open to affection and it scares me that I might get addicted to you, and there wouldn't be a way for me to bounce back if you leave.
"I can't handle that again. I can't handle another thousand years without you. Maybe that makes me weak or selfish, but I just wish to have you here with me, always and forever, no matter what happens along the way.
"I want to be relaxed around you and I can't do that if—" Hudhayfah rambled and Trey chuckled lightly.
He had known that there were things that would forever be there, but he had never imagined that there would come a day when he heard of the greatest healer in the realm talk like this.
It was raw and honest and Trey loved that for his mate. He loved that this was Hudhayfah opening up to him, regardless of what circumstances they were in right now.
"I'm never leaving again, angel. And if I have to die, then I will fight to stay alive for you, always," Trey said as he kissed Hudhayfah's temple. Oh, how he loved the kind healer with all of him.
"You promise?"
"Always, my beautiful angel. Always."
"But what of the queen, won't she make you—"
"She has no power over me or anyone. The entire realm answers to the white wolf and the white wolf alone, not her amnesiac of a m— I mean, the queen won't do shit. Besides, she is out of the realm because some rogue wolves were spotted in the human lands."
