chapter 66 - Navy Marigold. (3)
“Prepare to sail! Prepare to sail!”
Two large ships, three medium ships, three small ships.
Hundreds of navy personnel moved promptly to their stations and unfurled the sails.
Clang clang clang!
“Hurry up and board!”
Loud ringing of bells.
“Huff, huff!”
“Mary! What took you so long, crawling here now?”
“I was gathering harpoons…!”
“No excuses!”
“Yes!”
Marigold arrived late, carrying supplies heavily on her back.
In the eyes of the navy, determination was rising.
“Fifteen minutes to departure!”
Their motivation wasn’t a sense of justice against vile pirates.
Rather, it was the one moment they could get their share of the spoils.
A portion of the loot taken from pirates went into their mouths.
“Everyone, to your positions! We’ve got to make this worthwhile!”
That was why excitement outweighed fear upon hearing of pirate activity.
“Ransell, why don’t you come along? You don’t have a role yet and might not have much to do, but it’s experience.”
“Hmm.”
Ransell hesitated at the invitation from Guard Commander Baron Coral.
The sea was more dangerous than it looked. Even Ransell would be helpless if the ship ran aground.
He had died a few times before but genuinely wanted to avoid death if possible.
Taking life lightly would wear down his humanity faster than it already was.
“Naval combat doesn’t suit my temperament.”
His concern was soon resolved.

‘Damn!’
Seeing these all bleak routes, Ransell quickly grabbed his coat.
“Are you going?”
“I’ll board a medium ship.”
“Good enthusiasm. Have some fun out there.”
Baron Coral patted Ransell’s back with sudden enthusiasm.
‘Is it true there isn’t a single proper ending or achievement?’
They all seemed to end in death or slavery.
Especially becoming a plaything for pirates—that was hard to watch.
When Ransell boarded the medium ship where Marigold was, a familiar face greeted him.
“Ransell Dante. Why are you on my ship?”
“Share it with me. It’s not like it wears out.”
“What?”
Rox Ruin from the neighboring cabin glared fiercely at Ransell.
“Get on another ship! I decide my crew! Get off immediately… Aaaagh!”
Pretending to leave, Ransell naturally struck Rox’s groin with the sheath.
Rox screamed and clutched his groin, collapsing.
“Ransell, Dante…!”
“Oops.”
Ransell muttered a lifeless apology and grabbed Marigold’s water flask.
Ignoring her reluctant reaction, he poured the liquid into his mouth.
The sweet taste went down his throat.
“Ready to sail!”
“Sail! Strip those pirate scoundrels to their underwear!”
.
.
.
Crash!
The sailing ship rammed the pirate ship’s side.
The hull rocked violently.
Sea water poured over the deck like rain.
“Capture them!”
“Surrender!”
“Board! Bring harpoons!”
“Hooks!”
It was a complete mess.
Dozens of hooks flew toward the pirate ship, ropes connecting the two vessels.
Among the three pirate ships trying to flee, two were already caught in the encirclement.
“Get them!”
“Hand over the money, you vile pirates!”
As soon as the bridge was laid, the navy poured onto the deck. Greed for loot flashed in their eyes.
“Aaah, aaah!”
Ransell paced beside the flustered Marigold.
The sight of him holding a large sword and joining the melee seemed perfectly suited to the ending in the guide.
‘No, fighting duty really isn’t for me.’
He should just deliver letters, which suited his temperament.
Crash!
The ships collided again, and the pirate ship lurched.
Marigold, losing her footing, tumbled and slammed into the deck {N•o•v•e•l•i•g•h•t} railing.
“Clang!”
“What? You’re navy too? This mackerel-sized girl?”
“Eek!”
A pirate swung his sword at the rolling Marigold.
“Die!”
Strangely, nothing happened. Only after did the pirate notice his right arm was missing.
“...Huh?”
His severed arm was flung beside Marigold.
Blood gushed from the empty shoulder.
“Aaagh!”
“Eek!”
The screams of the one-armed pirate and Marigold clutching the severed arm echoed together.
Ransell kicked the one-armed pirate off the railing into the surf, where he disappeared with a death rattle.
“Get up. You’d better just hide quietly.”
“Th-thank you, Sir Ransell...!”
Marigold steadied herself, face pale blue.
Boom!
The ship rocked once more.
While Ransell briefly looked away trying to regain balance,
Whoosh!
A lasso flew and caught Marigold’s neck. A question flickered across her face.
“What is this…ugh.”
Next moment, Marigold was yanked off the deck like a fish on a hook.
“Keh-ek!”
“...?”
She was thrown into the sea in an instant.
The lasso was tied to the only escaping pirate ship among the three. Shouts of “We caught a woman!” were heard.
“Mary’s being taken to the pirate ship!”
“Leave her! It’s already too late!”
“Being the pirate’s plaything isn’t so bad!”
“Is that so?”
No, there was no way.
“…I’d have liked to see what kind of ending would happen if I hadn’t followed.”
Without hesitation, Ransell leapt toward the sea.
“Sir Ransell!”
“Count Ruin, what brings you here without notice? If you had informed me, I would have come to greet you.”
Guard Commander Baron Coral hurried toward a group approaching at a quick pace.
A massive man, at least two meters tall, called the top-ranking count of the archipelago, was walking briskly with nobles in tow.
He didn’t glance at Baron Coral, instead continuously looking around.
“No one is in the base. What’s going on? Where did everyone go?”
“Most have been dispatched due to a pirate sighting on the west coast of the island. Is there a problem?”
“Tch. I came looking for my son.”
Count Ruin clicked his tongue.
“Don’t speak. Just listen. The Third Princess is coming.”
Baron Coral stiffened.
“Th-The princess? Why is she coming all the way here...?”
“We don’t know the details yet. I heard she’s already boarded a ship coming this way. That’s the latest news. I’m in hot water myself.”
Count Ruin sighed deeply, clearly troubled.
The archipelago was a beautiful place, but not remarkable.
It lacked the resources to properly host royalty arriving unexpectedly.
Especially the Third Princess.
“This is serious. If the Third Princess really is as rumored…”
“Watch your words. It might be taken as insulting the royal family. If the court hears careless talk, I won’t be able to protect you.”
“My apologies. I’ll be careful.”
The Third Princess Claria Arild Freesia was famous beyond the empire, even across the continent.
“And the rumors are probably true.”
“As expected…”
The main cause was scandalous rumors about men.
That she drove away any unsightly men around her.
That she gathered handsome men and built her own palace.
That wherever she went, she kept the best-looking men there, evaluating them one by one—a malicious hobby.
Though these rumors bordered on folklore, there was too much hearsay to dismiss outright.
This was why Count Ruin and Baron Coral were conferring worriedly.
“She wouldn’t come all this way without reason. The royal knights and the imperial royal navy are gathering. She must have a purpose, though it’s unclear.”
“Wow, at that scale it sounds like war might break out.”
Baron Coral stroked his mustache and sighed.
He felt a strange change brewing in the peaceful seas of the archipelago, beyond the usual pirate trouble.
“We must prepare for the Third Princess’s arrival. Gather every knight on the island. Round up all the good-looking men you see. You know what happens if you offend the Third Princess, right?”
“Yes, Count.”
“Good. Ransell Dante of the Dante family is also enlisted as an officer.”
“That’s fortunate.”
“Yes, we’ll prepare him as captain as soon as he returns from wiping out the pirates. He looks a bit unenthusiastic but isn’t bad.”
“Trust only yourself.”
