Chapter 24: Chapter 23
There was plenty of information about Tokumoto Kyutoshi, but very little of it aligned with what Sakiya believed. So, she decided to take a direct and straightforward approach.
At this moment, Chihiro and the others had finished shopping, while Tokumoto Kyutoshi brewed a pot of tea to entertain them. Chiho had just lifted her cup to take a sip when the door suddenly burst open.
Tsukigami Tsuchiya and Mr. Sakuragi jumped in surprise, their hands instinctively reaching for their weapons. But as they recognized the familiar figure in the doorway—a blindfolded girl—their tension eased.
Sakiya stood there, covering her left eye with her right hand while extending her left like a claw. Her gaze was locked onto one point in the room.
"I see everything!" she declared.
Everyone followed her line of sight to Tokumoto Kyutoshi.
He blinked, pointing at himself in confusion. "Me?"
Sakiya nodded solemnly. "I've seen the evil lurking inside you."
Tokumoto Kyutoshi chuckled lightly. "Oh? And what do you plan to do about it?"
"Purify your soul!" Sakiya announced as an aura of energy flickered around her.
Before anyone could react, a group of samurai burst into the room, katanas drawn, encircling Sakiya.
Unfazed, she pointed at Tokumoto Kyutoshi. "The truth of death is upon you! You—"
Smack!
"Ow!" Sakiya yelped as a hand struck the top of her head.
She clutched her scalp, eyes brimming with unshed tears, and looked up at Chihiro with a betrayed expression.
Chihiro sighed. "Stop causing trouble, Sakiya."
She then turned to Tokumoto Kyutoshi, her tone cool and collected. "Don't mind her. She's just playing around."
Tokumoto Kyutoshi relaxed slightly and waved his hand. "Stand down."
At his command, the samurai retreated as swiftly as they had arrived. He understood well enough that, against seasoned shinobi like Chihiro, they were utterly useless. He had seen the power of ninjas firsthand. If they wanted him dead, no amount of bodyguards could save him.
With a calm smile, he looked at Sakiya. "Little ninja, where did you hear such things about me?"
Sakiya, still pouting, declared, "Evil cannot escape my sight."
Tokumoto Kyutoshi sighed, his face touched with melancholy. "Yes, I may have brought some hardship to this town, but I've also helped it grow. I introduced it to the world beyond these walls. Progress always comes with sacrifice. I was too ambitious and didn't consider all the dangers. That led to the bandit raid."
His voice softened. "Now, the town is divided. Some support me, believing that growth is necessary. Others blame me and want to cut all ties with the outside world to regain their peace."
He looked at Sakiya. "But things are never that simple. We cannot undo what has been done. The town has already been exposed. If we withdraw now, it won't protect us. We'll just become an easier target."
His expression darkened. "The bandit attack wasn't random. It was orchestrated by those who wanted to control this place for themselves."
His fists clenched. "If it weren't for Miss Chihiro, the town might have been completely wiped out. The wealthy merchants would have divided it among themselves."
Tsuchiya's eyes widened. "Miss Chihiro?"
Chihiro remained impassive. "When I arrived, a third of the town had already fallen. But the people were fighting back. They were already turning the tide. I only stepped in at the end. They could have won without me."
Tokumoto Kyutoshi shook his head. "No, you saved us. You are this town's benefactor."
Chihiro's expression remained unreadable. "I am not."
Tsuchiya blinked, struggling to grasp the full situation. Sakuragi adjusted his glasses, deep in thought.
Tokumoto Kyutoshi sighed. "I suppose Miss Chihiro still dislikes me."
She remained unmoved. "Enough talk. Get some rest, Mr. Tokumoto Kyutoshi. We leave at dawn."
With that, he departed, his expression unreadable.
Sakiya glared after him, her frustration clear. "He completely ignored my warning! He just shifted the focus onto Chihiro and sidestepped the entire issue!"
Chihiro noticed her expression. "You're not wrong, Sakiya. That man isn't as innocent as he wants us to believe. But remember, he is also our mission."
Tsuchiya brightened at the reminder. "Konoha's Ninja Code: The mission comes first! A mission is a symbol of a ninja's faith and honor!"
Chihiro nodded approvingly. "Good. You remember it well."
Sakiyas expression darkened.
"What about my trial?"
Chihiro gently patted Sakiya's head.
"Don't mess around."
As soon as Chihiro's hand left, Sakiya stretched out her palm, eyes expectant.
Chihiro blinked, then smiled knowingly. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a piece of candy, placing it in Sakiya's hand.
The little ninja peeled away the wrapper and popped the candy into her mouth.
"Mmm~ So sweet."
Satisfied, Sakiya returned to her room, still savoring the treat.
The next day, the team set off once again. The journey was uneventful, filled only with endless scenery passing by. When they stopped to rest, Chihiro gathered everyone together.
Sakiya, Tsuchiya, and Sakuragi stood in a line before her.
"Sensei, is something wrong?" Tsuchiya asked curiously.
Sakiya, uninterested in the conversation, focused on etching a six-pointed star onto her kunai, a new pastime she'd discovered to combat boredom.
Chihiro smiled.
"I'm going to teach you all how to train."
Tsuchiya and Sakuragi's eyes lit up instantly. As civilian-born ninjas, they had little exposure to advanced techniques. Being personally guided by a skilled shinobi was a rare and exciting opportunity.
Sakiya, on the other hand, seemed unimpressed.
"First, we'll do a chakra affinity test."
Chihiro pulled out three blank slips of paper.
"These will reveal your chakra nature. Just channel your chakra into the paper."
Sakuragi's paper split and burned slightly—earth and fire.
Tsuchiya's paper curled at the edges and burned—pure fire.
Then came Sakiya.
Her paper crinkled, burned, got damp, tore, and then turned to dust.
Chihiro stared.
"Five attributes...?" she muttered in disbelief.
Sakiya grinned smugly.
"Of course! I am no mere mortal."
Tsuchiya and Sakuragi exchanged glances, speechless.
Why does a genius like her act so ridiculous?
Chihiro sighed.
"Alright, we'll start with chakra control training. You'll practice tree climbing and water walking."
Sakiya, of course, mastered both instantly. Even advanced chakra control techniques like the holographic projection jutsu were easy for her—walking on water was child's play.
Chihiro, now genuinely impressed, nodded.
"Sakiya, your chakra control is exceptional. You should consider learning medical ninjutsu."
Sakiya's eyes lit up.
"Sensei, you know medical ninjutsu?"
Hearing Sakiya finally call her "Sensei" made Chihiro unexpectedly emotional.
"I only know a little," she admitted. "But if you train at Konoha's medical corps, they'll gladly teach someone with your talent."
Sakiya nodded enthusiastically.
"Also..." Chihiro continued, "I saw how helpless you were against that bear. You need a more powerful offensive jutsu."
Sakiya's eyes gleamed.
"Sensei!"
Chihiro smirked.
"Can't wait, huh?"
"I also want to learn swordsmanship!" Sakiya added.
Chihiro considered this.
"It's possible, but swordsmanship requires daily practice. It's grueling work. At your age, even if you're talented, it'll take a year before you reach my level."
Sakiya blinked.
"Oh~ never mind then."
"You gave up too fast!" Chihiro shook her head.
"Anyway," she continued, "your chakra nature includes wind, so let's start with the Wind Blade Jutsu."
She formed a series of hand seals, then slashed the air. A sharp gust of wind cut through a nearby tree, causing it to topple over with a clean slice.
Chihiro turned back, expecting Sakiya to struggle with the technique.
Instead, Sakiya had already formed the seals and sent her own wind blade flying—just as strong as Chihiro's.
Chihiro froze.
"Wait... what?!"
Sakiya beamed.
"Heh, pretty cool, huh?"
Chihiro's mind reeled.
Did she just copy it on the spot? Is her ability like the Sharingan?!
Chihiro instinctively pinched herself.
"I must be imagining things..."
Sakiya stood proudly, waiting for praise.
Chihiro shook her head and chuckled.
"You're incredible, Sakiya."
Sakiya puffed up.
"Obviously! Who do you think I am?"
The rest of their journey was spent in training. Chihiro taught jutsu after jutsu, but within two days, she was almost out of techniques to share.
One evening, as they prepared for another round of training, Chihiro suddenly tensed.
Her pupils shrank as she turned toward the darkness beyond the trees.
Then, her voice rang out sharply:
"Enemy attack! Stay alert!"
