Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Web of Lies
The city was falling apart.
Oscorp's symbiote experiments were spreading faster than anyone could've predicted. Reports flooded in—strange black creatures seen slithering through alleyways, people disappearing in the night, and sightings of monstrous figures stalking the streets.
And in the middle of it all… was me.
Hunched on a rooftop, I stared down at the chaos below. The whispers inside my head were louder now, more tempting, more convincing.
"You are stronger with us, Parker… let us take control…"
I clenched my fists. "No. Not like this."
But deep down, I knew I was running out of time.
Earlier, Stark Tower.
Tony was livid.
"What part of 'containment' do you not understand?!" he snapped, pacing back and forth across the lab. "I mean, sure, I get it—you're young, hormonal, and you think you can take on the world, but Parker, this thing is going to EAT YOU ALIVE!"
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "I didn't ask for this, Tony. It just… it won't let go."
Daredevil, leaning against the console, spoke up. "Then you need to let us help before it takes full control."
I looked at them both, the weight pressing down on my chest. "I… I don't know if I can fight it much longer."
Tony's expression softened, just a little. "Look, kid… you're not alone. But you gotta trust us."
Trust. That was the tricky part, wasn't it? Because a part of me still didn't trust myself.
Oscorp Midtown Lab – Midnight.
Daredevil and I stood outside the lab, the neon Oscorp sign flickering above. Inside, a fresh batch of symbiote test subjects waited to be shipped out—Osborn's plan was moving faster than expected.
"This is the place," Daredevil whispered. "We get in, destroy the samples, and get out."
I nodded. "Easy enough."
We moved inside, sticking to the shadows. The lab was filled with containment tanks, each one holding a writhing mass of black goo.
And then I heard it.
A low growl.
My spider-sense flared, but it was too late—Venom dropped from the ceiling, landing between us with a sickening thud.
"We are inevitable," Venom growled, its voice dripping with malice. "Join us, Parker… or be consumed."
Daredevil lunged first, striking with his batons, but Venom swatted him aside like a ragdoll.
I gritted my teeth. "Alright, big guy. Round two."
We clashed, my webbing useless against his shifting form. Every punch I threw, he absorbed. Every flip I made, he followed with terrifying speed.
And worse?
The symbiote inside me was reacting to him.
"We belong together, Parker…"
"Shut up!" I screamed, ducking under a razor-sharp tendril.
Daredevil staggered to his feet, gripping his ribs. "Parker, don't let it in!"
Venom lunged, and in that split second, I wanted to let go. I wanted to feel the full strength that I knew was inside me, waiting, coiled like a viper ready to strike.
But I couldn't. Not like this.
Instead, I used his momentum against him, webbing his leg to the floor and delivering a bone-crunching kick to his jaw. He reeled back, roaring in anger.
Daredevil pressed a button on his wrist. "Now!"
Suddenly, high-frequency sound waves flooded the room, causing Venom to scream in agony. The symbiote recoiled, writhing and shrieking as it peeled away from its host.
"Get the samples!" I yelled.
I sprinted across the lab, grabbing a nearby container of symbiote samples and tossing them into a nearby furnace. The black goo hissed and shrieked as it burned, dissolving into nothingness.
Venom let out a final, enraged scream before retreating into the shadows, disappearing through a vent.
Daredevil looked at me, breathing hard. "We need to go. Now."
I hesitated for a moment, staring at the empty containment units.
And then we were gone.
Back at the safehouse…
I sat on the edge of the rooftop, watching the city lights twinkle in the distance. My hands were still shaking.
Daredevil stood beside me. "You did good tonight."
I scoffed. "Did I? The symbiote's still inside me. I can feel it. Every second."
He nodded. "But you fought it. That counts for something."
I stared at my hands, the black veins still faintly visible beneath my skin. "Yeah… but for how long?"
Daredevil placed a hand on my shoulder. "As long as it takes."
I sighed. "I hope you're right."
Meanwhile, at Oscorp…
Norman Osborn watched the footage of our escape, his expression unreadable.
Dr. Octavius stood behind him, arms crossed. "He's resisting. Stronger than we expected."
Osborn smirked. "For now. But everyone breaks eventually, Otto. Even Spider-Man."
He turned to a large containment chamber, inside of which floated an unfinished prototype of the Goblin Suit.
"And when he does," Osborn said darkly, "I'll be ready."
The next day, Midtown High.
MJ met me outside by my locker, her expression concerned. "Hey, you okay?"
I forced a smile. "Yeah. Just… been a long week."
She tilted her head. "Peter, I know things are getting bad. You don't have to lie to me."
I exhaled. "I'm not lying. I'm just… trying to figure things out."
She reached out, taking my hand gently. "You'll figure it out. And when you do, I'll be right here."
I squeezed her hand, grateful more than I could put into words. "Thanks, MJ."
For the first time in a while, I felt a little less alone.
That night, on patrol…
Swinging through the city, I felt… different. Lighter. The whispers were still there, but quieter.
I wasn't free. Not yet.
But I wasn't giving up, either.
Osborn was still out there, Venom was still lurking, and the city needed Spider-Man.
I fired a web and took off into the night, determined.
No matter what came next…
I wasn't going down without a fight.
