The SSS Legendary Dragon Chose Me On Rebirth

Chapter 134: War I

The next morning, everyone had heard that the Warbines declared war on the other Orcs.

"You were right about the Orcs declaring war, Vacuse," Kagerou said.

It was morning and Vacuse was on his way with the others to a meeting with the High Chief. The meeting was held in the Chief's private room.

Vacuse nodded. "It's only to be expected."

Behind him were Captain Mera and Harkon, the only ones allowed to accompany him.

The guards opened the door for them and they entered the room. The High Chief was seated with a large table in front of him. The table was covered in papers and maps.

Bent over it were the Elders and the High Chief, and the newcomers entering caused them to look up. Most of the Elders ignored them, except for the one whose son had died at Vacuse's hand.

The High Chief rested his eyes on Vacuse.

His gaze was unreadable.

"Humans from the Dragon land." His voice was heavy. "You have forced my hand."

Vacuse bowed. "High Chief. Wasn't it your sons that forced your hand? Well... I guess one of them is not your son anymore."

There was no reaction from the High Chief. In fact, his face only seemed to grow colder. "I will not ask you how you know of the secret that even my Elders did not know. And the reason I am going to forget is because you saved my life.

"From now on, the Warbine owe you nothing and you owe me nothing. You can leave now."

Vacuse's stomach dropped as he understood what was happening. "Then... what about the alliance between the Vorrakyn and th..."

"There will be none," the High Chief's voice was firm. "Not until I am done with the Orcs. Dealing with anything apart from that is an unnecessary distraction."

Vacuse's eyes narrowed. "I saved your life. And that of your son. Is this what Orcs' honor and traditions mean? So little?"

The High Chief stared at him expressionless, but the temperature in the room turned colder. "I see. Then what about this... I will let you return to the Vorrakyn territory without killing you."

Suddenly the High Chief snorted. "Don't you understand? You Vorrakyn are done for, and not even the appearance of a single Dragon would change that.

"No little schemes and plots would change that. Do you think I don't know what you are after? You want to use us as bait for your Emperor.

"In fact, by doing nothing, the Vorrakyn would be destroyed, and that is a good thing for the world."

Vacuse gritted his teeth as he tried to think of what to say to convince the High Chief. Without the Orcs, there would be no external third party to force the Emperor to act, and the Frexon family might gain the help of the other Dukes to finally attack.

He took a steady breath and smiled. "High Chief. Isn't it better to have the Vorrakyn on your side of the border than a group you don't know?"

The High Chief stared at him for a long time, then he slowly shook his head. "It's all the same. I have a war to fight. You will go now. You will leave the Warbines."

When Vacuse left the room, his face was squeezed up in anger, but by the time he reached their room, he had a thoughtful look on his face. He said only one thing to his attendants. "We leave now."

And so they began packing.

There was very little to pack since there was very little that was unpacked in the first place. Before long they left their room and came out to the large courtyard outside where thousands of warriors were gathering for mobilization.

Everyone seemed to be in a hurry to do something or be somewhere. Fortunately, the High Chief had given them a squad of warriors to see to them, and the first thing Vacuse asked for was for them to bring him the traitors.

Lyra and her friends were brought forward, still shackled. Vacuse grunted when he saw them. "Kill all of them but leave Lyra for me. I will leave their bodies for the monster hyenas."

Captain Mera was quick to follow his orders and before long they slaughtered all of them, ignoring their pleading and begging. By the time they were done, Lyra's face had gone pale.

It was as if she was still holding some thin hope that was quickly dashed. Her eyes were wide as she looked at Vacuse. "Please..."

Vacuse ignored her. He could not think of a single logical reason to keep her alive. At first, he did not kill her because of the influence she had in his past future and her knowledge.

Instead, he ordered that their mounts be brought to them. They would not be using a carriage this time. Vacuse wanted to return to Kragthar before things turned even more sour.

Their horses were brought forward, and it was only then, after Vacuse had picked his own, that he turned to Lyra. "I promised you that I would give you a painful death. And I do keep my promises... for the most part. Kagerou!"

Kagerou came forward with a chain in his hand, and without batting an eye, he tied the chain to the shackle and then wrapped it around her waist.

Next, he secured it to its harness.

She realized what was happening and began to beg, but when Vacuse did not even look at her, her desperation turned to cursing him.

Even with that, Vacuse only climbed the horse and turned to the Captain. "I will once again be in your care, Captain Mera. This time, we are going to Kragthar as fast as we can. Anything or anyone that stops us should be crushed!"

She bowed, then began calling orders to her men.

Vacuse turned to the squad of Orcs next, since they were charged to follow them halfway. "I will have to borrow your energy suppressing shackles for a while."

Then without hesitation, he slapped his horse and it jerked forward in a jog that turned into a full-blown run.

At first Lyra kept up, but soon she was getting dragged on the rough ground.
