Chapter 123: Silhouette

While Kanata and Octavia clashed on Angel Island, a lone man visited the Twilight Pirates' ship, floating in the sky.

"Hmm… I am the Knight of the Sky," he announced.

Izo's eyes widened in recognition as the middle-aged man with a full beard introduced himself. He recognized the man clad in silver armor.

"Gan Fall! You're safe!"

"Hmm? You know me… You're Blue Sea dwellers, aren't you?"

"Blue Sea… What's that?" Teach asked, confused.

"The blue sea. The world below the White Sea of the sky," Izo explained. "I've been here before. I stayed here for a while with Captain Roger."

"…Roger, you say? Now that you mention it, I do recall seeing you."

Gan Fall stroked his beard thoughtfully. There was a sense of urgency in his tone as he spoke.

"Is that person fighting Octavia up there one of your comrades?"

"She's our captain."

"I see…"

Gan Fall had been the God of Skypiea before Octavia and her army arrived and took over. It had been a swift and decisive conquest. However, contrary to expectations, there had been no widespread massacre, no senseless acts of cruelty. Those who stood against her were simply defeated, Gan Fall included. He hadn't even been given a chance to fight back.

He had considered sacrificing himself to protect his people, but surprisingly, Octavia had been relatively peaceful. At least until now.

"This is the first time I've seen her fight. Usually, the priests or the soldiers would handle any problems."

But now, witnessing Octavia's overwhelming power, he was grateful that the Shandia had never managed to reach her. She was a monster, a force of nature that could not be stopped. Even cunning strategies would be useless. A head-on confrontation would only lead to a senseless death.

"We can't let them keep fighting."

Angel Island was in chaos.

The shockwaves from their attacks were toppling buildings, the very ground scorched and frozen.

So far, there had been no casualties, but it was only a matter of time.

"I have a request for you – Please save the people of Angel Island. I can't do much on my own, but… I'll do whatever I can to help."

Gan Fall bowed deeply, pleading with them. He couldn't evacuate everyone by himself. The battle was intensifying, and it was a miracle that no one had been killed yet.

George met Izo's gaze, scratched his head, and sighed.

"…We have no choice. It seems Kanata's trying to avoid civilian casualties… We can't just stand by and watch."

"You're right. Besides, having him on our side would be beneficial for governing the island after Octavia is gone."

Kanata clearly intended to defeat Octavia. They had to start thinking about what would happen afterwards.

Gan Fall was the former God of Skypiea. Having him return to his former position, with Kanata's backing, would be the best solution.

…Assuming they could survive this crisis.

"Alright, let's move! We'll be toast if we get caught in their crossfire!"

"Thank you!"

Under Gan Fall's guidance, they began evacuating the inhabitants of Angel Island.

And now, having evacuated the citizens, they were observing the battle from the safety of their ship. When Kanata collapsed, Teach, Kaie, and Izo immediately rushed to her side.

George couldn't stop them.

"Damn, those impulsive idiots! Feiyun! Lower the ship! We have to treat Kanata's wounds!"

None of them could match Kanata's strength. Which meant, they were no match for Octavia either. But they were worried about their captain, and couldn't stand by and watch her get killed.

Octavia watched the four of them – Teach, Kaie, Izo, and Feiyun – with an amused expression as they took Kanata to the infirmary. Caterina and a few of the ship doctors were waiting for them.

"Buy us some time! Every second counts!"

The four of them fought Octavia, desperately trying to buy time for Kanata's treatment. It was unclear how long it would take for her to wake up.

They had no choice but to fight.

"We're not giving up! Give up, Octavia!"

"–How unfortunate."

Perhaps provoked by Teach's taunt, Octavia charged her spear with black lightning.

The four of them braced themselves, but were simultaneously sent flying by a single, horizontal swing. Octavia leaped towards the ship, aiming for Kanata.

Kaie, the first to recover, transformed into her beast form and swatted Octavia out of the sky with her tail. Teach had positioned himself behind Kaie, shielding her.

"I won't let you pass!"

"How annoying."

Octavia concentrated lightning in her right arm, aiming it at Kaie's massive form. The air crackled, and the blast of lightning sent Kaie crashing to the ground.

"Slice-and-Dice Shot!!"

"Take this!!"

As Kaie was blown away, Izo and Teach attacked. Their individual strength was no match for Octavia's, but they could at least land a blow if they distracted her.

"It's not working?!"

"Such weak attacks. You're amusing."

Her Armament Haki was on a completely different level.

Teach's Haki-infused fist, Izo's Haki-infused bullets – they couldn't even reach her skin.

Black lightning flowed from her shoulder to her fingertips, and she slammed her fist into Teach, sending him flying. He had managed to block the attack, but the force sent him crashing to the edge of Angel Island. It would take him some time to return.

She casually flicked her finger at Izo, unleashing a bolt of lightning. He was trying to distract her with his long-range attacks, but against Octavia, distance was meaningless.

"–!"

A massive palm swept towards her, forcing Octavia to defend herself. It was Feiyun. She was moving at speeds that defied her massive size. While it was a surprise, it wouldn't be enough to defeat Octavia.

She caught the attack and countered with a slash from her spear. Feiyun narrowly dodged it, but Octavia wouldn't let her escape.

"800 Million Volts – Deus Arcus Tonitrus!"

A barrage of lightning rained down from the dark clouds that had gathered, scorching Feiyun's body. Even her incredible durability couldn't withstand such an attack. As she collapsed, Octavia turned to head back to the ship – and Kaie, in her hybrid form, attacked.

Her Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit ability granted her superior durability compared to other Devil Fruit users. She was injured, but not defeated.

"A Mythical Zoan. You've gathered some interesting Devil Fruit users, Novem."

"Unlike you, she's well-liked by her subordinates."

Octavia narrowed her eyes at Kaie's provocative words, and unleashed another wave of lightning. Kaie, returning to her human form, dodged the attack, then transformed into her beast form again, firing lasers from her snake-like hair.

Octavia deflected the lasers, preparing to attack Kaie – when Izo intervened again.

"Ha!"

Kaie hardened her snake-like hair with Armament Haki and attacked. But Octavia effortlessly dodged it and slammed her spear into Kaie, sending her crashing to the ground. Izo, concerned for Kaie, momentarily lost focus – and Octavia appeared before him.

"Damn–!"

She dodged his point-blank shot and landed a few blows, stopping his movements.

"A samurai, huh? It's rare to see one outside of Wano."

"Guh… Cough…!"

She knocked his pistol away and placed her spear against his throat.

"We had a samurai on our ship once. Her name was… Kurozumi Higurashi."

"Kurozumi…?!."

"Yes. She wanted revenge against Wano and left our crew. It was a long time ago… I don't care what happens to the Kozuki Clan. Did she succeed?"

"Because of you…!"

Octavia wasn't directly responsible for what had happened to Wano. But Izo couldn't contain his anger at her taunting words. He drew his sword, intending to strike, but Octavia casually unleashed a bolt of lightning.

"It seems she succeeded. The Kozuki Clan was destined to fall."

She had never met any of the Kozuki Clan, but she had heard about their connection to her family. She had allowed Higurashi to do as she pleased, knowing that Izo wouldn't be happy. They were no longer allies. Their fate was of no concern.

Having defeated the strongest members of Twilight's crew, Octavia turned towards the ship, which had moved a considerable distance away.

Her ability allowed her to move at the speed of lightning. Distance was meaningless. She charged through the air, but was intercepted by George, who was standing on the deck with Kogarashi in hand.

"Stop right there. This ship will fall if I knock you unconscious. Hand over that girl."

"Like hell I will! They fought hard for her! I'm not giving up without a fight!"

Octavia laughed at George's defiance and pointed her finger at him.

"Then show me your strength. If you can't, then I'll take your life."

The air crackled with lightning, and George broke out in a cold sweat, accepting his fate – when a voice called out to him.

"Dark Water!!"

Kuro had launched a surprise attack. His ability to accurately pinpoint the location of a Devil Fruit user's true body worked regardless of their strength.

Octavia stared at him in disbelief as he grinned and grabbed her right arm. She couldn't believe he had caught her.

"I ate the Yami Yami no Mi – You can't use your ability while I'm touching you!"

She deflected George's attack with her spear, then pushed Kuro away, slamming her fist into his face. His ability was useless if he couldn't utilize it properly. As he tried to grab her again, she sliced off his left arm with a swift chop of her hand.

"Gaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!"

"Kuro!"

Ignoring Kuro's screams, she turned to face George and sent him flying off the ship with a single swing of her spear.

There were other crew members present, but they didn't intervene, aware of the difference in their strength.

She followed Kanata's presence and headed towards the infirmary, only to be intercepted by Teach, who had managed to crawl back onto the ship.

"Damn, you sent me flying!"

"You're back already? You're resilient – No, should I say… you two?"

She looked at Teach, and then at something behind him. The other crew members were confused, but Teach grinned and clenched his fist.

"Doesn't matter. It's none of your business."

"You're right. I'm not interested."

She caught Teach's Haki-infused fist with one hand and countered with a punch of her own.

Teach's attacks were almost completely ineffective. The difference in their Haki was overwhelming. He was gradually being worn down by her sharp attacks.

"Ha… Ha… What kind of body do you have…?!"

"You haven't lived as long as I have. Train harder if you want to defeat me."

"You old hag, don't– Ugh!"

Octavia's fist slammed into his face, and he finally collapsed.

"DarkWater…!"

Kuro, despite having lost his left arm, tried to stop her again. Octavia sighed and grabbed him by the neck, lifting him off the ground.

"Kuro!"

"It's fine. I'm okay," Kuro reassured Kaie.

"What do you mean okay? You're causing so much trouble… Do you want to make me angry?"

"I'm saying that even if David and the others can't fight, Kanata will defeat you."

"…I've already defeated her. She won't be waking up anytime soon."

"Hehehe, you don't understand anything, Kanata's mom."

Kuro grinned, despite being on the verge of death.

"She'll definitely come back and defeat you."

"…Such baseless confidence. What do you know?"

"I know her better than you. After all, I've been with her longer than you."

Octavia's eye twitched at his provocative words. She stabbed him in the gut with her spear.

Kuro coughed up blood, but his eyes were still defiant. She tried to sense his intentions, but his strength was negligible. He couldn't use Haki, and his ability was nothing special. He couldn't do anything else. And yet, he still hadn't given up.

"You're annoying."

She was about to toss him overboard – when someone charged at her.

It was David.

"I admire your courage, but you're simply too weak."

Octavia's Observation Haki might be inferior to Kanata's, but she was still a top-tier fighter. She could easily sense David's strength and movements.

He wasn't using Haki or Seastone weapons. He wouldn't be able to harm her.

But.

In this one instant – the rules would be broken.

"Hehehe, you forgot about me."

Octavia had ignored David, convinced that nothing could harm her fluid body.

But as David, who had transformed his entire body into a bomb, prepared to detonate – Kuro laughed. He was the user of the Yami Yami no Mi.

He could nullify any Devil Fruit ability as long as he was touching his target.

"What?!"

The moment Octavia turned around – David exploded, sending her flying off the ship.

***

– A lone ship sailed across the sea, bathed in the hues of twilight.

Kanata emerged from the cabin of an unfamiliar, unmanned sailing vessel. She stepped onto the deck and saw a man standing there.

He was watching the setting sun, and she shielded her eyes from the glare.

He wasn't particularly tall, slightly taller than Kanata, with spiky hair.

A sword hung at his waist, its familiar design caused Kanata to narrow her eyes.

"–Who are you?" she asked.

The man with his back still turned to her, crossed his arms and replied in a voice she had heard somewhere before.

"I am Rocks – Rocks D. Xebec."

She couldn't see his face, but somehow, she knew he was grinning.
