The Sword Demon Tears People Apart

Chapter 32 - The Matein Viscount Family

The long-awaited Tuesday.
Today was going to be a busy day for once.
First, the classes held every Tuesday and Thursday.
And the person from the Matein Viscount family would probably come today too.
They might come tomorrow, but preferably, he hoped they’d come today.
It’s definitely better to finish work at once and rest for a longer time, right?
That’s when it happened.
Speak of the devil,
Knock knock- There was a sound of someone knocking on the door.
“May I come in?”
“Oh, come in.”
The door opened and Luna entered.
Luna bowed slightly, then immediately let out a sigh.
“What trouble have you caused this time?”
“This time? You shouldn’t know about any trouble I’ve caused here?”
“So you did cause trouble after all. I thought as much.”
“It was a leading question…!”
As Zeron covered his mouth, Luna chuckled.
She seems to be laughing often these days, which is certainly nice to see.
“Well, anyway. The Principal is calling for you. It seems a guest from the Matein Viscount family has arrived.”
“Oh, that’s good. But I have a class, don’t I?”
“Viscount Matein has come in person, they say.”
The Viscount himself?
That was a bit unexpected.
Does the Viscount care for his son that much?
Well… but,
“So what? Tell them to wait.”
“…Have you finally lost your mind? Or perhaps you can’t hear?”
“You’re really talking quite rudely.”
Zeron chuckled.
Seeing this, Luna sighed deeply as if the ground would cave in.
“Aren’t you taking nobles too lightly? Even if you have some power, a noble is still a noble.”
“Nobles die too if you cut off their heads.”
“…I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that. Anyway, this is troublesome. Of course, nothing major will happen over an issue like this, but… if you keep acting like this, your head might roll before long.”
That was true.
The authority of nobles is certainly not something to be trifled with.
They risk their lives to protect their own or their family’s authority and honor, and the same goes for the king.
If you disregard a noble’s authority without proper justification, in the worst case, even the king might get involved.
Attaching charges like insulting nobility or whatnot,
Saying, “Bring me that commoner who dares to take nobles lightly!”
“Pfft…!”
“…Are you laughing right now?”
Luna’s eyes turned cold.
She seemed genuinely a bit angry.
“Ah, it’s not like that. Ahem. Anyway, tell the Principal. Tell him I said to wait a bit.”
“You really…”
“Come on, it’s fine. I have to teach class, don’t I? There’s even a new student today.”
Luna bit her lip hard, then eventually bowed.
“…Understood.”
She turned around sharply and left the room.
“Rest well.”
Even in this situation, it’s just like her to say goodbye.
Of course, her voice was as cold as ice.
*
Luna Lind chewed on her lip as she headed to the Principal’s office.
The maids around sneered at her brisk walking.
“Oh my, did your tail-wagging not work out?”
“I guess so. Who would take an arrogant wench like her?”
“Pfft…! Right? She thinks she’s something special.”

Luna Lind paid no attention to such words.
Right now, all sorts of harsh words were swirling in her head.
‘What on earth is he thinking…!’
Nobles.
She dislikes nobles too.
But even so, she never showed such an attitude.
Moreover, even if she showed such an attitude, her head wouldn’t roll.
But Zeron is a commoner.
If he’s not careful, his head might really roll.
“That stupid man…”
Grinding her teeth, she knocked on the door.
With the knock, a voice telling her to come in was heard.
She composed her rough breathing and thought of an excuse.
It was impossible to pretend she hadn’t delivered the message at all.
There was no reason for her to go that far for him.
But to relay Zeron’s words as they were?
That would cause big problems for him.
That made her a bit uncomfortable.
Then should she say he’s sick after all?
Luna Lind pondered as she bowed to the Principal.
“So, what about Instructor Zeron?”
‘He’s not feeling well, so he might need some time.’
Luna Lind swallowed the words that had come up to her throat.
He would surely be going to teach class soon.
If it was discovered that she had lied, both Zeron and herself would be in trouble.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a big problem for her, but…
Suddenly, the warmth from that day flashed through her mind.
His hand placed on hers.
The feeling of him patting her head.
His chest she had leaned on.
The sound of his beating heart.
“…I haven’t been able to deliver the message yet.”
“Hm?”
“Since he wasn’t in his room, I thought he might be preparing for class…”
It was a poor excuse.
There were plenty of ways to know his location.
And sure enough, the Principal’s eyes narrowed.
His eyes stared at Luna piercingly.
Luna closed her eyes tightly and just poured out harsh words internally.
I must be crazy.
What’s so special about that stupid man.
It’s not like he gave me any great comfort.
Still, if he had any sense, he would at least match his words accordingly.
Such thoughts were jumbling her mind when,
“Hmm…. Did he say he doesn’t want to come?”
“Pardon?”
“Or he might have told the Viscount to wait.”
Luna’s heart sank for a moment.
Can a 5th Circle magician even read minds?
“He told him to wait… Well, it’s not that surprising. He seemed like that kind of person at first glance.”
“But…”
“That’s enough. You may go.”
At the Principal’s words, Luna bit her lip.
As she hesitated, the Principal continued.
“You seem to have gotten quite close to him.”
“That’s not true.”
“Well, he is a capable man. Haven’t you given up yet?”
“…As I’ve said repeatedly, I have no intention of revenge.”
“Is that so.”
The Principal stared at her for a while, then waved his hand.
It was a dismissal.
“Nothing will happen, so you may go.”
“Huh? Yes…”
Luna bowed deeply and left the room.
‘Nothing will happen…?’
The Principal doesn’t speak nonsense.
Then what does that mean?
Luna’s worries deepened.
*
During Zeron’s class time.
A female student was standing next to him.
The students looked puzzled at the new face.
“Introduce yourself. This is Flone, who will be taking the same class from today.”
Flone bowed and greeted.
“Hello! I’m Flone. I’m in Swordsmanship Department A class… and I’m twenty years old!”
“Huh?”
At those words, Zeron tilted his head.
“Twenty? I thought you were about the little one’s age.”
“Ah, yes…. That’s how it turned out.”
Flone pouted her lips and turned towards the little one.
The little one welcomed Flone warmly but still asked curiously.
“By the way, oppa. Isn’t Flone supposed to be in a different class at this time?”
“That’s right.”
“Then how did she come here?”
“I pulled her out.”
“Hmm…?”
The little one still seemed not to understand.
It’s not really a matter she needs to understand anyway.
I just borrowed some power of authority after revealing to the Principal that I’m a Master.
In the first place, even talking about authority or whatever, it wasn’t really a big deal.
“Anyway, shall we see the new student’s skills?”
Zeron smirked and pointed at the scarecrow.
At that, the rude young lady also smiled meaningfully.
She was the very person who had experienced something similar.
“Yes! What should I do?”
“Vertical cut. You know how to do it, of course?”
“Of course…?”
“Cut it without using mana.”
“Yes!”
Instead of arguing, Flone stood in front of the scarecrow.
In her hand was a large greatsword without a blade.
It was a weapon that didn’t match her tiny frame, but when using mana, size didn’t matter much.
“Hah…!”
Flone’s greatsword falls with a heavy sound, bwoong-!
Kwung-!
The greatsword strikes the scarecrow’s head, and crack-! The head is miserably crushed.
At that, a slight gleam appeared in Zeron’s eyes.
“Oh… Not bad.”
“What do you mean? Isn’t it a similar result to mine?”
The rude young lady raised her eyebrow.
What. Would you like Flone to be scolded too?
“You really have a bad personality.”
“No, you really…!”
Zeron ignored the nagging rude one and patted Flone’s head.
“Did you do that knowingly?”
“Hehe… What do you mean?”
“Unconscious use of mana. There was definitely a will to crush the opponent imbued in the greatsword.”
Flone tilted her head.
After pondering something for a moment, she timidly nodded.
“I think I understand what you’re saying.”
“Oh, so you’re not in A class for nothing?”
Unlike nobles, most commoners don’t receive systematic education.
For a commoner to be assigned to A class in the Academy means they have a definite strength.
Of course, most are usually older, but it certainly meant she had talent.
“This worked out well. Your basics seem quite solid. We don’t need to worry about catching up.”
Zeron nodded with satisfaction.
*
After class, Zeron headed to the Principal’s office.
He knocked on the door and after waiting a moment, heard a reply to come in.
“You’re here.”
“Yeah, where’s the Viscount?”
“I gave him a room for now. He seemed quite angry.”
At those words, Zeron chuckled.
So what if he’s angry.
Can’t an instructor teach his class?
“Where’s that room?”
“Follow me. I’ll guide you.”
“Personally?”
“I can’t let an innocent maid suffer his wrath, can I?”
The Principal, true to his character, wore a robe over a neatly creased suit.
Then he led the way and stood in front of a door.
Knock knock-
“It’s Corwen.”
“Yes.”
Soon after, the door opened.
Beyond the door was a sturdy middle-aged man.
He glanced at Zeron with sunken eyes, then bowed his head to the Principal.
“There was no need for you to bring him personally.”
“It was necessary. I’ll be going now. Have a good talk.”
*
Viscount Matein sat in the seat of honor, glaring at Zeron.
Next to him, his son Padiol sat silently, and behind them stood two knights.
“So, you’re Zeron.”
