THE UCHIHA ASCENSION

Chapter 67: CHAPTER 67

Chakra has a total of seven attributes, with the Five Elements Release being the most fundamental.

Ninjas generally possess multiple chakra attributes, and when they train in ninjutsu related to their natural affinities, they achieve greater results with less effort. However, lacking a particular affinity does not mean one cannot cultivate it—it simply means that mastering ninjutsu of that nature will require significantly more effort. The same jutsu performed by someone with the matching affinity will always be more powerful than when used by someone without it.

Because of this, it is generally believed that the more innate chakra attributes a person has, the greater their ninjutsu potential.

The Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, was born with an affinity for all five chakra natures, and his mastery of the Five Elements Release was unparalleled. Even without a Kekkei Genkai, he was able to stand at the pinnacle of the shinobi world due to his deep understanding and creative combination of various jutsu.

In the original records, Kakashi Hatake is also suspected of having all chakra natures, but Uchiha Kiyo is more inclined to believe that Kakashi developed and refined these affinities through rigorous training over time rather than being born with them.

Regardless of whether it is innate or cultivated, having all chakra attributes is a testament to a ninja's talent.

Uchiha Kiyo possesses three natural chakra affinities, an impressive feat that places him among the most talented shinobi.

Most jōnin only master two chakra nature transformations, but Kiyo's three affinities give him an inherent advantage. It ensures that his journey to the jōnin level is smoother than most, requiring less effort in elemental training.

Beyond the five basic elements, chakra has two additional, more elusive natures: Yin Release and Yang Release.

Based on theories Uchiha Kiyo encountered in his past life, Yin Release is associated with spiritual energy, while Yang Release is linked to physical energy.

Although the full extent of this theory remains unconfirmed, there is no doubt that Yin Release leans toward mental and illusory aspects, whereas Yang Release enhances physical energy and vitality.

However, these deeper aspects are not Kiyo's immediate concern. His current priority is to establish a foundation in Yin Release, which will pave the way for further advanced studies.

> "Yin Release focuses on the manipulation of illusion and mental constructs, which is why genjutsu typically requires Yin Release chakra."

As a shinobi advances in Yin Release, their illusions begin to transcend mere deception and start to influence reality itself. This concept of illusions manifesting into reality is the essence of high-level Yin Release mastery.

The legendary Susanoo, exclusive to Mangekyō Sharingan users, is a prime example of advanced Yin Release. It allows the user to materialize a gigantic spectral warrior, seemingly from nothing, but in reality, it is a manifestation of highly refined Yin chakra.

Even techniques that appear unrelated to illusions, such as Amaterasu and Kamui, rely on Yin Release.

Amaterasu: The black flames of Amaterasu are a product of Yin Release shaping chakra into an inextinguishable fire.

Kamui: This space-time ninjutsu distorts reality by manipulating spatial dimensions using the properties of Yin Release.

These examples highlight that even jutsu classified as ninjutsu or dōjutsu often stem from Yin Release principles.

The Connection Between Yin Release and Illusions

"Genjutsu," Kiyo thought as he continued reading, "is essentially the art of using spiritual energy within chakra to interfere with an opponent's nervous system, disrupting their perception and trapping them in a false reality."

To perform genjutsu, a user must mold chakra with a strong Yin attribute and introduce it into the target's sensory system.

"The essence of Yin Release," Kiyo realized, "is the amplification and refinement of spiritual energy within chakra. By training in Yin Release, my proficiency in genjutsu should naturally improve."

The key to Yin Release mastery is learning how to stimulate and control one's spiritual energy.

"This must be why Sharingan is so effective at casting genjutsu," he thought. "The dōjutsu naturally enhances Yin chakra, making illusion-based techniques significantly stronger."

For a moment, he considered whether developing Yin Release independently could help him understand Sharingan's powers on a deeper level.

"If I refine my control over Yin chakra without relying on my Sharingan, I might be able to unlock its full potential in a way that most Uchiha don't."

It was a tempting thought. While many Uchiha relied on their visual prowess, Kiyo wanted to understand the underlying mechanics of Sharingan-based techniques.

Training in Yin Release

Uchiha Kiyo sat cross-legged on the floor, extending a hand outward. He gathered his chakra, forming a small sphere of raw energy in his palm.

"The first step is to isolate the spiritual energy within my chakra," he reminded himself.

Thanks to his training in the Self-Cultivation Technique, he could sense chakra at a deeper level than most shinobi.

Focusing, he sought out the spiritual essence within his chakra and attempted to amplify it.

"This is where things get tricky," he muttered.

What exactly were the properties of spiritual energy?

He understood the theory well enough—it was tied to consciousness, perception, and imagination. But how could he actively manipulate it?

For a moment, he hesitated. Then, an idea struck him.

"If spiritual energy governs perception and illusion, perhaps I should try reinforcing the 'unreal' aspect of my chakra."

He concentrated, projecting thoughts of illusion, deception, and unreality into his chakra.

At first, nothing happened.

Then, gradually, the chakra sphere in his palm started to feel… different.

It was subtle, but he could sense a shift. The chakra no longer felt like a solid mass of energy. Instead, it gave off a strange, almost intangible sensation—like a mirage flickering on a hot day.

A cold, eerie aura seeped from the chakra.

His heart pounded with excitement.

"This… This is Yin Release chakra!"

It was a breakthrough—one that had taken seasoned shinobi years to achieve. Yet, he had done it in mere minutes.

Kiyo couldn't help but marvel at how natural the process felt.

"Could it be that my genjutsu talent is higher than I thought?" he wondered.

The realization gave him pause.

But then, he shook his head.

"No, no. Genjutsu is a useful tool, but it should remain secondary. Taijutsu and ninjutsu have greater direct lethality. I'll focus on genjutsu only as a supplement."

Still, mastering Yin Release would undoubtedly strengthen his Sharingan's capabilities.

For the next few days, Kiyo devoted himself to adapting his body to Yin chakra, refining his control until he could generate it at will.

Once he felt confident in his progress, he turned his attention to the next step—unlocking the secrets of his Sharingan.
