The Untouchable of Magic High School – A New God Enters the Game

Chapter 10: Chapter 9: Magic Engineer: Ueyama Koto

Yugen's Perspective

One month after the unofficial Mitsuya-Yotsuba meeting, I'm summoned by Gen after a letter arrives from the Yotsuba, disguised as from FLT. Expecting routine prep for my new role at FLT, I'm floored by Gen's opening words.

"FLT's second-largest shareholder?" I ask.

"Yep," Gen confirms.

"Not a dream, right?"

"I wish it were a wild story," Gen says, rubbing his temples.

Neither Genji nor I can wrap our heads around it. I never aimed for FLT shares, let alone a third of the company—about 33%. The Yotsuba's hand is obvious, with Maya's sister, Miya, as FLT's top shareholder. Maya's mention of FLT during our meeting hints at prior coordination.

"Why me and not you?" I ask.

"Your identity's hidden until high school, so I'm the legal owner for now," Gen explains.

Mitsuya's existing contracts with FLT for our shadow business make this less disruptive, but it's still insane. "How'd you convince the other shareholders?" I ask.

"You'd have to ask Maya. Since you won't inherit Mitsuya, they might be eyeing you for the Yotsuba," Gen says.

"That's ridiculous," I mutter.

Miya likely pulled strings to rope me in, tied to the secret treatments for her and Honami—though her rejuvenation's raising eyebrows.

"You'll join CAD Development's Third Division, where Tatsuya's involved, posing as the development director's son," Gen says.

He shares intel on Third Division, courtesy of our shadow business. Talented engineers like Ushiyama Kinji are sidelined there, likely due to Tatsuya's influence over his father.

"What's my role?" I ask.

"Magic engineer in Third Division. Head to FLT tomorrow; they're expecting you," Gen replies.

Shareholder status is secondary; my main job is as an FLT magic engineer, working remotely to avoid rumors. I'll get a salary and benefits. No complaints, but Kazama's orders to steer clear of Tatsuya's group complicate things.

"Tatsuya and I aren't supposed to meet," I say.

"If you do?" Gen asks.

"I'll pin it on them," I smirk.

Kazama's restriction, likely tied to Okinawa, scrapped my Nine Schools plan with Miyuki. I start drafting an apology letter and decide to bring a gift to Third Division.

If push comes to shove, I'll blame Kazama—not out of spite, but his orders cost me that event.

Using the Tokyo Ueyama residence due to its distance from the main estate and my Mitsuya name, I visit FLT as a "proxy for a shareholder relative." Miya and Yotsuba hold most shares, with Mitsuya and others owning the rest.

At FLT's reception, I'm led to the president's office. The president, a Yotsuba appointee, knows my role.

"I'm Nagano Yugen, though my real name's withheld due to family tradition," I say.

"I've heard about your skills. You're joining Third Division. Here's the contract," the president says, handing over documents naming me as magic engineer "Ueyama Koto."

Better than being stuck as Nagano Yugen. I review and sign.

"Head to Third Division now?" the president asks.

"That's the plan," I reply.

"I'll inform the supervisor," he says, noting Tatsuya's involvement.

Tatsuya's father, an FLT executive, likely faces pressure from him. In the original story, his mistress's ambition stole Tatsuya's Taurus Silver credit. I expect similar dynamics here.

Knowing trust takes time, I enter Third Division and meet Ushiyama, the new supervisor.

"You the kid visiting?" Ushiyama asks.

"Nagano Yugen, or Mitsuya Yugen off-record," I say.

Honesty fits Ushiyama's craftsman vibe. He's surprised but dives in.

"Youngsters these days are something else, like the young master," Ushiyama says.

"Thanks for the flattery. I've got a request," I say, handing over design papers.

Ushiyama's hands shake—not from fear, but excitement. The designs are for my exclusive gun-shaped CADs, "Valkyrie" and "Odin," inspired by Norse mythology.

"You designed these?" Ushiyama asks.

"Hard to believe?" I reply.

"No, your eyes show you mean business. These are decades ahead—beyond my level," Ushiyama says.

The designs, though basic, are polished. Ushiyama sees them as a foundation for Tatsuya's cartridge-storage gun device.

"The young master requested something similar with a Loop Cast System. Can we use your designs?" Ushiyama asks.

"Go for it. I'm asking you to build mine, and I'm joining Third Division," I say.

As remote magic engineer Ueyama Koto and Mitsuya proxy, I lock in my role. I set anti-eavesdropping magic on my desk and head out.

Tatsuya's Perspective

Post-Okinawa, at the Izu villa, I leverage my father's FLT position. Miya, now called "Mother," approves my request for a CAD to protect Miyuki. Her softened demeanor puzzles me.

My plan needs cutting-edge tech. Yugen's Okinawa magic stuck with me—a technique copying activation sequences for rapid re-casting. I couldn't fully replicate it, so I developed the Loop Cast System, enabling repeated magic within a magician's capacity.

Ushiyama's call about a Trident prototype built in three days shocks me. Doubting but trusting his integrity, I visit FLT alone.

"Here's the prototype," Ushiyama says, showing a rugged gun-shaped CAD with cartridge storage.

I tweak it and find it's the most responsive CAD I've used. The Loop Cast System works flawlessly, its quality undeniable.

"Impressive, Ushiyama-san," I say.

"Not my work. A genius engineer, Ueyama Koto, your age, joined us remotely. His designs made this possible," Ushiyama says.

Ueyama Koto's new to me. The Trident's feel matches Sanada's CAD and Okinawa's Third Eye Zero, pointing to Yugen.

Ushiyama shares Yugen's designs for two gun devices needing programs. Recognizing similarities to Sanada's Okinawa CAD, I'm certain. I sit at Ueyama's desk and email: "You're Yugen, right?"

A reply pings: "As expected of Miyuki's brother." Yugen's private number follows. I call, and we connect instantly.

"Been a while, Tatsuya," Yugen says.

"How'd you know it was me?" I ask.

"Video call camera," he explains.

"I heard you're in Third Division. Can you help?" Yugen asks.

"Sure, but those devices are high-end, packed with black-box tech," I say.

"They're Sanada-approved. In return, I'll handle Trident's hardware," Yugen offers.

I agree to program the devices, recognizing Yugen's world-class skill.

"Let's team up. Taurus Silver?" Yugen suggests.

"Your name's not in it," I note.

"Too complicated otherwise," he says.

With Ushiyama as supervisor, the Taurus Silver Project launches, debuting Silver Horn and Force Silver devices alongside the Loop Cast System, cementing FLT's global magic engineering dominance.
