The Untouchable of Magic High School – A New God Enters the Game

Chapter 24: Chapter 23: Clash of True Strength

With ID card registration complete thanks to Mayumi and Mari's insistence Tatsuya, Yugen, and Miyuki enter the student council room directly.

Tatsuya meets a hostile glare from a lean student, roughly his height, seated behind Mayumi's usual spot. Yugen notices but ignores it, guessing the reason: this must be "Hanzo-kun," the vice president.

"Pardon us," Yugen says, bowing with Miyuki and Tatsuya.

The boy's gaze shifts to Yugen and Miyuki, pointedly ignoring Tatsuya. Approaching, he passes Tatsuya without a glance and introduces himself.

"I'm Vice President Gyobu Hattori. Miyuki Shiba, Yugen Mitsuya, welcome to the student council."

A pause during his introduction hints at Yugen's sisters' influence. Yugen bows, saying, "Pleased to meet you," while Miyuki, annoyed by the slight to Tatsuya, is calmed by Yugen's subtle tap and glance.

Mayumi, oblivious, greets them warmly. "Welcome, Yugen, Miyuki, and Tatsuya. Good work!"

Hattori's gaze lingers on Mayumi, his affection obvious. Yugen ignores it, uninterested in meddling.

"Let's get started. A-chan, your turn," Mayumi says.

"Yes!" Azusa, resigned to her nickname, stands from her work.

Mari calls Tatsuya to the disciplinary committee room, preferring a hands-on explanation. Hattori interrupts.

"Watanabe-senpai," he says.

"What, Gyobu Shojo Hanzo Hattori?" Mari teases.

"Don't use my full name!" Hattori snaps.

The Hattori family, unrelated to the ninja lineage, is a branch of the Hundred Families. Hattori bristles, but Mari presses on.

"Then Vice President Gyobu Hattori."

"It's Gyobu, not my clan's title!"

"No titles exist now! I'm registered as Gyobu Hattori!" he protests, flustered.

Mayumi stifles a laugh as Mari toys with him. Yugen listens to Azusa's explanation, half-amused by the exchange. Mari challenges Hattori's point.

"I oppose appointing a first-year, a Weed, to the disciplinary committee. There's no precedent," Hattori says, using the banned term.

Mari's eyes narrow. "Bold, using a prohibited word in front of me, a council member."

"You can't arrest a third of the school!" Hattori retorts.

Mari turns to Yugen. "What did your sister, the former president, do about such violations?"

"Kana-neesan said she disciplined about 60% of Course 1 and 10% of Course 2 students in a year and a half. That's over a third," Yugen replies.

"Impossible!" Hattori sputters.

"Check the disciplinary records. She documented everything," Yugen says, returning to Azusa's briefing.

Hattori, shaken but stubborn, insists, "Disciplinary work requires strength. A Weed can't handle it."

"Strength varies. Tatsuya has the mind and eyes to read activated sequences precisely," Mari counters.

"Absurd! Even a single-step sequence is 30,000 characters!" Hattori scoffs.

Hattori's logic holds for most, but Tatsuya's ability defies it. Mari explains his skill could deter unpunished offenders, justifying her nomination. "I want him because he's Course 2. Course 1 policing Course 2 widens the gap, which I won't allow. This answers your question too, Yugen. Anything else, Vice President?"

"I object as vice president! A low-magic Weed can't do the job!" Hattori insists.

He's just being stubborn, Yugen thinks. Hattori equates strength to magic power, while Mari values analytical skill to bridge divides. Hattori's stance ignores discrimination.

Miyuki stands, unable to stay silent. "My brother's practical scores are low, but that's just the evaluation system! In real combat, he's Yugen's equal!"

That's a stretch, Yugen thinks. Tatsuya's "true power" could match him, but at catastrophic cost. Miyuki, choose your words carefully.

Hattori lectures, "Mages must see reality logically, serving society without bias. Favoritism clouds judgment."

Miyuki bristles, but Yugen intervenes. "Miyuki, calm down."

"But—"

"You'll only be called biased. Let me handle this."

Stepping forward, Yugen faces Hattori. "You said mages must be logical and disciplined. Doesn't that apply to your attitude toward Mayumi and Mari's recommendation?"

"What? You support his appointment?" Hattori snaps.

"Yes. Magic power favors Course 1, but a mage's strength isn't just that. You won't agree, though—our talk's going nowhere."

First High's metrics rank Tatsuya as Course 2, a fact he accepts. Miyuki doesn't, but it's the system's flaw. Tatsuya's unique magic and origins are a classified minefield, known only to Yugen and Miyuki here. The school can't fully assess him.

Hattori opposes based on school metrics, but Mayumi and Mari see Tatsuya's potential, likely from his role in Yokohama's mage incident, subduing military mages barehanded. They trust he can handle school-level offenders.

"Let's settle it. Test whether a Course 2 can match a Course 1. A mock battle, Hattori versus Tatsuya," Yugen proposes.

"Are you serious?" Hattori glares.

"Dead serious. Better than dragging this out with grudges. What do you say, Tatsuya?"

Hattori glares, but Yugen stands firm, turning to Tatsuya, who steps forward.

"Let's do it, Vice President. Not for the role, but to prove my sister and friend aren't mistaken," Tatsuya says.

"I'll teach you your place," Hattori replies.

Mayumi and Mari declare a private mock battle in the third training room, set for 30 minutes later. Before Tatsuya retrieves his CAD, Yugen approaches, apologetic.

"Sorry, Tatsuya. I put you in a tough spot."

"No, you helped. Dragging it out would've left bad blood. Thanks for stepping in for Miyuki," Tatsuya says.

"I wasn't angry, just clear-headed," Yugen says, scratching his head, embarrassed. Miyuki smiles.

"Win this, Tatsuya. You've got this," Yugen says.

"Yeah," Tatsuya nods.

Tatsuya and Miyuki fetch his CAD while Yugen heads to the training room. Hattori, eager, waits with Mari as referee, alongside Mayumi, Suzune, and Azusa. Yugen bows and approaches.

"Sorry for overstepping," Yugen says.

"No, we expected this. Is he strong?" Suzune asks.

"Call me Yugen. He's strong, no exaggeration," Yugen replies.

"Hattori's undefeated in official matches," Mayumi warns.

"His demeanor shows it. But magic speed differences matter little in real combat. Fights rarely stay static unless it's a magic shootout," Yugen says.

No rules restrict movement, only confining the fight to the room. Hattori likely plans a quick magical strike, but that works only against an average Course 2.

"How will he win?" Azusa asks.

"Hit first," Yugen says.

"By speed?" Suzune guesses.

Hattori's faster at casting, but only if Tatsuya's in his line of sight. If not, the outcome shifts. As the trio puzzles, Tatsuya and Miyuki enter.

Tatsuya sets a gun-shaped CAD on a desk, loads a storage unit, and takes position. Miyuki stands beside Yugen, who's seated.

"You're cozy with the seniors," Miyuki teases, her smile sharp.

"Stinging words," Yugen quips, shrugging.

"How will Brother win?" she asks, mischievous.

"That vibration-system storage? Three shots, done," Yugen predicts.

They're certain of Tatsuya's victory. His ingenuity and martial skills surpass high school level, despite his Course 2 label. Hattori's strong, but he doesn't grasp what that label hides. His chances are near zero.

Mari explains the rules, and the match begins.

Hattori activates his CAD, aiming a movement spell to blast Tatsuya's feet.

In an instant, Tatsuya vanishes from Hattori's view. A jolt shakes Hattori, and he collapses, unconscious.

Tatsuya stands behind him, CAD still raised.

"Winner, Tatsuya Shiba!" Mari declares, stunned.

Mayumi, Suzune, and Azusa gape, uncomprehending. Miyuki cheers for her brother. Yugen smiles, sharing her joy.
