The Werewolf King's Bride

Chapter 480: Did You Lose Your Brain With Your Eye?

(From Evan's Perspective)

"Calix was guarding the cave?" I asked.

"Yes, I was," Calix replied. "It's just… Her Highness never got out. She vanished."

"What do you mean she vanished?" I muttered and went to check the inside of the cave. If she went deeper, there would be footprints. Besides, the cave was not that deep. Where would she go there? And why would she even do that? "She teleported.

That's the only explanation."

"Teleported where?" Flint asked. "Her Highness could not just…"

Then, he slapped a hand over his mouth. He understood. So did I. And so did everyone. Only Perita, who had just returned from her search around the cave, did not understand. Not that she had that many brain cells required for understanding in the first place.

"Is the bond that strong?" Calix asked.

"What bond?" Perita asked.

"The bond between normal werewolves is strong, but not this much. The bond between an Alpha and their mate is certainly way too strong," Flint said.

"But when Her Highness was missing…," Lady Ruby started. "Ah, Her Highness said the place she was kept was shielded with magic."

"If a normal mage made that barrier, King Demetrius would have known. But it was a dark mage, the most powerful dark mage ever, and literally a fucking god."

"What are we going to do now?" she asked.

"What about the safe place, Perita?" I asked. I used to call her and others formerly, but after a while, everyone got too comfortable.

"It is safe, at least, for now, as we could see. The place is actually somewhere people won't expect her to be. It is actually way too safe," Perita said.

Flint nodded. "It looks quite eerie, but yes, it is safe."

"Alright, then, go there and take shelter. I suppose you have a sketch, Flint."

He grunted and handed me a piece of paper. Mages would always sketch wherever they went. It was a rough sketch but contained important details, that were enough to teleport there. It was not possible to remember all the places all the time, so they kept sketches just in case.

"I will go to where Blue is and discuss our next move," I said. "If she and King Demetrius agree that she should go there, I will bring her."

"What about Doctor Dimitri? And any other survivors?" Lady Ruby asked.

"Doctor Dimitri could not be found," I said. "And others… If they survived, they fled. Most of the knights are dead. The others are probably looking for their Queen and getting themselves treated. I did not have enough time to survey all of that. But I will talk to King Demetrius about it.

They are his knights."

It did not take a long time to convince them. All of them believed Blue was with King Demetrius. Due to their bond, they should be able to detect where the other one is.

I knew what King Demetrius's tent looked like. I had been there once, to discuss a part of our plan.

Just when I reached the tent, I felt a surge of warmth. The whole place was lit with candles. A patient's room would always be warm since it was said that warmth helped with the improvement.

I found Blue sleeping on the bed and King Demetrius sitting by the side of the bed, his back facing me. I knew Blue would be here. But seeing her safe and sound, I felt a relief rush over me.

"My wife thought you are dead," he said, without turning.

"If I don't survive a crushing mansion, I don't deserve to be a King," I said.

He then turned his face to me. Shock would be an understatement.

Since the beginning, whenever King Demetrius looked at me, I got uncomfortable due to the darkness of his eyes. My mother had those eyes too, but for some reason, his eyes always felt darker. But not even once, I had ever thought I would get to see only one of them.

He motioned for me to sit on one of the chairs nearby. I did without a word. I did not know what to say to him. How did he feel looking with only one eye? How did Blue feel seeing him that way?

I never quite liked King Demetrius, although I admired him. But seeing him that way did not make me feel good.

"Is there any news of Doctor Dimitri?" he asked.

"Not one," I replied. "He probably got crushed. Or maybe…"

"It's the second one. He won't die," he said. "Blue thinks it is her twin brother who betrayed us."

"No, it's not him," I said. "He fought beside me."

"He… fought? That coward son of a…?"

I told him all about it while trying not to look at his eyepatch. He did not seem to even care about his lost eye.

"Well, he certainly is suspicious, no matter what he does. There could be two reasons. He is just weird, or he really is plotting against us," he said. "Blue gave the theory, but she cannot exactly believe so. She keeps saying that Cyan actually hates Azure and that Azure would never accept him as his loving son no matter what he does.

For me, I think that brat needs to stay out of our business for a while. No matter what I do, he always seems to find it out. I told Blue not to give him that many chances, but she kept saying that he was trustworthy. Honestly, that brat just drives me crazy!"

"Brat? Your wife is literally of the same age as him," I chuckled. "Have you lost part of your brain along with your eye?"

He tilted his head as if considering it and looked at his sleeping wife. I almost could recognize that look. He placed a strand of hair behind her ear. I tightened my fists. Then, he let out a chuckle. "Well, there certainly seems to be a possibility."
