Chapter 463: The Rules Are Wrong
Second-floor corridor.
After the three of them entered the realm of the Black and White Dice, they found themselves still standing in the corridor on the second floor, but the atmosphere around them seemed darker than before, and the pitch-black hallway couldn't even be illuminated by moonlight.
Looking up, they saw the Black and White Dice still lying quietly in the middle of the staircase.
"What's going on now, haven't we been devoured by the rules?"
The female reporter frowned as she surveyed her surroundings. The ceiling no longer had Dark Matter dripping from it, but there was an even chillier aura coiling around them, cold to the bone as if it were winter.
Although she was wearing a vest jacket, the clothes underneath were just ordinary gray short-sleeved T-shirts, and the jacket itself was also made in a vest style.
Thinking back to what the six of them were wearing before, the background of this script was supposed to be early summer.
But now, she was trembling slightly from the cold.
"No, we are already within David's rules," the police assistant said then.
"David?" The female reporter looked toward him.
"SOA-09's accessory Rule Object, manifesting as a ten-year-old boy, located at the turn of the second-floor corridor by the staircase in Qiming Building. Normally, it appears in the form of a Black and White Dice. Conditions include not allowing photography, touching, staring, or approaching within three meters of it," the police assistant said in an even tone while staring at the Black and White Dice ahead.
"So, we've come in now? But we haven't seen that social worker," the female reporter said as she looked around.
"Creatures entering the rule at different times won't be allocated to the same space; he should be on the other side of our location," the police assistant explained.
"Oh, then what?"
As the female reporter asked, she glanced at the Qiming Building, which appeared no different than before, and suddenly a bold idea popped into her head!
But she had only taken half a step backward when an eerie, heart-piercing sense of crisis suddenly enveloped her entire body!
The other half-step, she dared not take.
The female reporter stiffly took a step forward.
Noticing her movement, the police assistant warned, "After entering the rules of the Black and White Dice, do not stray more than three meters from it."
Without his reminder, the female reporter had also realized what was happening.
She just said with a cold sweat, "Why didn't your investigators write this rule down too?"
"We did, it's posted on the wall," the police assistant raised his hand, pointing ahead.
On the wall next to the staircase, there was a blackened sheet of paper that had been corroded, barely visible due to the dim lighting, the blackness of the paper, and the ink. Find adventures at My Virtual Library Empire
The female reporter squinted to see it, her mouth twitching, "Why not write it in the booklet? It's nearly impossible to read the handwriting since it's posted here."
The police assistant said, "Because if visitors discovered that there were ways to leave the bizarre rules after entering, they would likely recklessly dive in to experience it themselves. Don't think there are no such people; there are many, and those Street Gangs often sneak in without the neighborhood office knowing."
As he spoke, the police assistant cast a meaningful glance at the two of them.
The female reporter: "..."
The photographer had already stepped forward to try to make out the writing on the decayed, blackened piece of paper.
The paper still faintly showed a cream white color, and because the text was printed, it was not difficult to discern even though it was blurred.
"Black and White Dice Challenge Rules"
1. Since you've come in, please don't move around randomly. Keep calm and read this note first.
2. The Black and White Dice is David's toy; he often likes to hold it in his hand and play with it, and he also likes to invite others to play along with him. If you see the dice, please pick it up, then toss and let it fall.
3. If you roll the number "1," within three minutes, you must remove a piece of flesh and blood from your body and offer it to David. If you don't want to do it yourself, it's okay; David will come out to help you.
4. If you roll the number "3," within three minutes, you must remove three pieces of flesh and blood from your body and offer them to David. If you don't want to do it yourself, it's okay; David will come out to help you.
5. If you roll the number "5," within three minutes, you must remove five pieces of flesh and blood from your body and offer them to David. If you don't want to do it yourself, it's okay; David will come out to help you.
6. If you roll the numbers "2" or "4," one of David's good buddies will come out to play with you.
7. If you roll the number "6," David will come out to play with you. If you win against him, please leave the corridor immediately, otherwise, David will get very angry.
8. If you don't roll any number, please leave the corridor immediately, or David will get very angry.
9. David appears as an ordinary ten-year-old boy with blue eyes, black hair, wearing a coffee-colored cotton outfit. Anything else you see is not David.
10. After picking up the dice, do not speak to anything other than David.
...
The female journalist followed along and after watching, she was like, "???"
She felt that such dangerous rules would definitely deter the street gangs from daring to come in and challenge them!
"Odd numbers are all sacrifice rules, and it doesn't say after sacrificing your flesh and blood whether David will let you leave or not."
The photographer calmly said, "This could be an abyss; the only real way to leave this place might be to let David come out, or to meet the conditions of the eighth rule."
The female journalist frowned seriously, "I have a question, what kind of miraculous technique is it to never roll a certain number? Did that Investigator really try every single one?"
Does that guy's body still exist now?
The female journalist recalled the brief glance of herself jumping up to the third floor earlier; the all-black youth seemed to have all his limbs intact.
Of course, she didn't know whether he was indeed the Investigator left behind from before.
The photographer glanced at the police auxiliary and then whispered to her, "Maybe there were a dozen Investigators. In places like these, they wouldn't just send one person after an incident."
Then they divided into six people, each person rolling one die.
The police auxiliary had already stepped forward by then and, under the watchful eyes of the others like warriors, picked up the Black and White Dice from the ground.
"Brother, good luck, if something happens I'll protect you!" the female journalist encouraged.
"..."
The police auxiliary glanced at her but kept his mouth tightly shut without responding, not even looking any further.
He grasped the dice and emotionlessly tossed them.
The Black and White Dice, thrown without any sleight of hand, started spinning spontaneously as they fell, completely dumbfounding the two people watching!
The female journalist had been thinking that her throwing technique was absolutely superior. It was just throwing a die, so simple!
Whatever number she wanted, she'd roll it!
But no one mentioned that the dice could spin on their own!
The dice landed with a clatter.
The number was "3".
It was a sacrifice!
The two widened their eyes and looked at the police auxiliary.
The police auxiliary looked at the number and then, expressionless, pulled a regulation knife from his tactical belt and swiftly sliced at the three fingers of his left hand.
Blood sprayed, splashing on the floor.
Throughout, the police auxiliary's brow didn't furrow.
The female journalist inhaled sharply. Although she knew that the man might have lost his sanity to be so brave, she was willing to rank his decisiveness up there with Steward Armand Ray!
But did he really need to cut them all off? Cutting one section would also count, right? This way, there would be two sections left for next time...
The flesh and blood that fell to the ground had already begun to decay, turning into a pool of pitch-black goo in an instant before merging into the floor and disappearing.
It seemed like it had been absorbed by David.
However, the next moment, the female journalist watching suddenly stiffened, her face turning severe as she reflexively pulled a marble from her pocket and clenched it in her hand.
And at the instant of her action, countless twisted dark tentacles burst from the dice in the police auxiliary's hand. The writhing darkness wove into a massive mouth and swallowed the nearby police auxiliary in one bite!
Then there was a "clack".
The Black and White Dice rolled onto the ground.
The police auxiliary had disappeared, along with the darkness that had suddenly swallowed him, all in the blink of an eye.
The female journalist had wanted to intervene, but in that moment, she felt as if her body was immobilized, a great fear welling up inside her, rendering her unable to move an inch!
It was only after the darkness vanished that she felt control over her body return.
She looked at the photographer beside her dazedly, only to find that he seemed to be in a similar state.
"The rules... are wrong," the photographer slowly uttered these words.
...
