Chapter 51: Taking a god by surprise, or not?
Outside the giant castle, which had half of its structure blown away, a few once-upon-a-time mountains away, which now looked rather be a canyon, the two gods' fists and magic collided.
"Kagh... Fucking bitch, you used a child as a diversion, don't you feel some shame!?" After the clash of magic that could even brighten the grey and dark sky of this world. The beast of corruption spoke up with an even more ragged voice.
"Hah, shame? Only people as stupid as you can be fooled this way!" She said, but even then she was thankful.
Without the luck to be with someone who had an ability that could take a god by surprise, she would have been in a rather tough spot.
"Argh... Bitch, I will fucking kill you!" And this 'luck' angered the beast even more, his plan was perfect with the only exception being that he overlooked the actions of a mortal child.
"Killing Death itself? Ahaha, You truly are stupid." And she was enjoying the rage that was directed toward her and her people.
Yes, Morviayna was already considering Temrosth as one of her people, but such a thing is no surprise since it was he who got here out of her lengthy and frustrating life of constant tension.
"Die!" But now, there was no need for further words, not from her or the beast.
Even the beast who wanted to stall this battle before now was only seeing one goal.
To defeat the enemy standing in front.
...
The world... A grey sky, with the sunset and the night being up at the same time.
A realm of shade and dark, ruled by a death that could end all night and even the sunrise.
This scenery, this expense... where the powers of the souls lived in a desperate attempt to not be forgotten.
A mystic enchantment, allowing them to cling to what they once almost forgotten.
Now what shook and resounded throughout the grey sky, were hollowed and echoing screams of man and woman alike.
In this realm of mystic enchantments, two beings high atop converged for a battle, a battle that would etch its mark on the annals of history.
High in the sky, on one side stood she, the Queen of Death, an Overlord at the pinnacle of existence.
Draped in shadows, her eyes shined with an otherworldly poison green luminescence, her long obsidian black hair, blown by the strong winds that appeared from the clash just a moment ago.
With the beauty and magnificence of a Great Queen and Goddess, she stood at the top of this world.
Similarly, on the opposing side loomed a dominant figure, one who could be called a beast not simply because of the outlook but rather from the emanating aura of malevolence that chills the very air.
He who was the perfect representation of corruption, a power that could swallow and consume everything with one simple touch, he with such a strength that all beings below him feared and awed.
As the sun sets and the moon ascends, the ethereal stage is set for this grand spectacle of a battle.
"Be prepared!"
"Hmph, you too, since today, you will lose it... Your status as an Overlord!" As the words passed between the two beings of great power, the sun and even the moon hid away.
The darkened skies crackled with energy and the ground trembled beneath the weight of their powers.
The land whispered of imminent devastation as the forces of shadow and corruption collided in the sky.
"Eclipse Veil!" With a green flicker around her finger, the Queen of Death called forth a veil of energy, shrouding the sky and battlefield in an impenetrable mist.
From within this veil, with deft precision, she weaved with a low-voiced command. "Soul Chains" Summoning restless spirits in the form of chains and ropes to ensnare her adversary.
And as the mist swallowed him and chains appeared, The Beast of Corruption responded with a sinister smile and a single word.
"Burn!" With a whole arm swing, he summonsed flames, the black and white flames of the Nether, and with such energies dancing menacingly around him, the soul of chains retreated and even the mist of dark was slowly consumed.
At that moment he hurled "Venomous Spire," and a tower of malevolence erupted from the ground, casting dark shadows across the land as it tried to skewer her.
"Hmph, too shabby!" Although the words were nonchalant their powers clashed like thunder and lightning shaking what could be called the whole world.
...
After just moments, hundreds or even thousands of such clashes destroyed the whole mountain range and even a great portion of this mystical realm of shadows.
"Hey, you bitch, did you become weaker or something?" Amidst the slowly dissipating mist and clouds, the beast spoke in an amused but slurred and ragged voice.
His throat, which got crushed by Morviayna's attack, was healing at a slow pace since her energy wasn't easily dispelled from the wound.
"You think? Sadly even now I'm still stronger than you are." And she, as her being was revealed from behind the shades, without any harm to her body or aura, spoke in a fluent tone.
"...!"
'She is using so much... Fuck!' Noticing the difference in her energies, the Beast thought and he too burst out the powers he reserved for what could be called an emergency.
"Just because you almost become the Emperess of Darkness and got yourself a title of 'Great' you think that you are actually 'Great' and that you could play yourself before all of us!?" As his energy flared up even more and the very space around him started to crack under the weight, the beast's enraged shout shook the world.
"Hmh... Yes, after all... you too said it." But she, even in the face of such a strength, smiled with a nonchalant tone.
"I am the strongest!" The green and black forces of souls and death itself, the powers that were slowly mending and holding her world together all gathered.
"Arg, You bitch! I will show you that your title doesn't mean anything!" Feeling these powers, a slightly hesitant look was shown but not for long, his power that broke the world pressed against hers that tried to hold it together.
'Hm... This it's almost close enough, just a little more...' With these thoughts, Morviayna started to use her powers, every last bit of it.
"Shade's Embrace," She drew strength from the darkness itself to empower her strikes.
"Phantom Mirror!" And in that moment as her enchantment activated she created illusions to bewilder her opponent, further masking her deadly intent.
Thousands, hundreds of thousands of mirrors appeared to form a mental maze itself, but Corruption was relentless.
He brandished his "Cursed Grasp," a maleficent grip that drains the life force of all it touches followed by a magic that could hit even what he couldn't see now.
With a malevolent chant, he conjured "Hollow Wraiths," specters of death, that haunted Morviayna's every move.
The battleground soon became a symphony of chaos, where reality and illusion intertwined, and true intentions remained elusive.
The spectators, some who stood even hundreds or millions of miles away, all are held in awe, barely catching glimpses of the unfolding mayhem.
The elemental forces clashed and collided with such intensity that the very fabric of reality began to fray.
...
Finally amidis the still-standing mirror maze a shout resounds. "You, bitch! Are you scared, that's why you are hiding!?"
*Grr...* No response caused the Beast to rage, and right then as he was about to lose his cool...
"Don't worry, you got me!" The voice of someone, someone he knew was heard.
'This little fuck...!' Feeling the presence of Temrosth beside him, he didn't even turn and just gave him the joy of only a single thought.
"Come you bitch!" Since he already knew that this was just bait, the Beast of Corruption turned around, completely turning his back to Temrosth. and faced the approaching great energy.
Seeing this, in this final gambit, the Queen of Death drew upon her innermost strength.
"Eternal Eclipse," With these simple words, she cast the world into a darkness so profound that even stars seemed to shudder in fear.
"So be it, The End! Blighted Sunder!" Feeling the great power, the corruption attempted to sunder the very essence of his foe.
As darkness and corruption collide in a cataclysmic crescendo, in that fraction of a second.
'I can win...?' A thought crossed the beast's mind.
"Oh, Great Queen... The Ruler of Death and Dark, give me the power..."
"Uh?" Hearing a chant of magic amidst the loud clash of powers, the beast of corruption was speechless.
"Hmph... You see it now? Unlike you, I have my people." Seeing this unfocused gaze, Morviayan spoke to him, and with a gorgeous shining smile on her face looked not at the Beast but at the boy behind him.
"... to end all those who had a life! Death Touched!" As the words fell, Morviayna's energy passed on to Temrosth.
And as his hand touched the Beast's back...
The boy could only hear a few low words. [Notice: The Host has damaged a...]
*Gakc* Such a pain shot through the Beast that his concentration on the magic fell, and with it, her magic which was pushed back until now hit the Beast's chest.
With the two magic meeting at the surface of the Beast, the battleground became consumed by a blinding flash of light, and then... silence.
Through the destroyed lands of shadows, the wailing of souls echoed in the silent chaos, slowly even the distant explosions began to cease as well.
Then, when the veil of chaos finally lifted, the witnesses found themselves breathless, unable to fathom the true extent of the clash that happened.
The once majestic landscape lay in ruins as if a tempest of magic had swept through it. Yet, amid the destruction, a being stood alone and aloof.
As the Queen of Death stood in place, instead of a triumphant act, she waved a few hand signs.
"Gakh..." As green magic gathered, from the dust and cloud, a boy emerged wreathed in an otherworldly radiance.
"..." Morviayna spread her arms and caught the falling Temrosth.
"Sorry..." Morvi lowered her head and looked at Temrosth who was between her bosoms.
"Hmp? Oh, don't worry, it's not the first time I have died." He didn't look up but answered in a muffled voice.
"..."
"I don't need to see your face to feel your sad gaze on my skin."
"..."
"Don't worry, it was strange, I didn't feel or see anything."
"..." Even as Morvi heard the words she didn't speak but a thought appeared.
'But I... I saw it..." And she still had it in her mind, the image of Temrosth being turned to dust. As his muscles, bones, and everything else in his body disintegrated, she saw all of it.
*Sigh...*
"Look at the bright side, didn't this Corruption guy get vanquished?"
It was true, the Beast's malevolence got reduced to whispers in the wind but...
As she surveyed the aftermath with somber eyes, a low-voiced answer was given. "No..."
"Hm?"
"We, Overlords similarly to Gods, don't die so easily."
"...! Then..." As he understood her words, a disheartened tone appeared.
"He was pushed back with this 'death' so it will take some time to recover his full power, but he is alive."
"So he is... That's unfortunate." But quickly as always his outlook and tone changed back to the rather cheerful one.
"Um... Kid, don't you feel aggravated?" And she still couldn't understand him.
"Hm?"
"You died for nothing..." She who was called Death itself was truly saddened by the need to take an 'innocent' and unrequired life.
"I don't think it was for nothing, didn't you want to defeat him for something?"
"...!"
"That is enough."
"..."
"But anyway, that was rather smart."
"Hm? You mean my plan?"
"Yeah, in the middle of battle Morvi you thought of using my technique as well not just yours, to be honest, I don't think I would have done so in your place."
"Yeah, one of the things you need to learn to survive such worlds is to have a good perception of things around you and you're allies. And more to be able to use the surroundings at all times...
...
'Hey, kid!' It happened not long after she began the battle, in the middle of clashes between her and the beast.
'Umu?'
'Give me a hand once more.' She called for Temrosth's help. After a brief explanation of what Temrosth had to say to become her temporary follower and use her powers.
And after they quickly thought out the plan they just perfectly concluded, we arrived back here at the present where the 'not surprised' Beast got pretty much pulverized.
