Chapter 670 An Unexpectedly Formidable Opponent
"Spare my life!" Lu Renming was utterly dumbfounded upon witnessing the scene.
Several experts in Ancient Martial Arts whom he had hired for a hefty price had been slaughtered within minutes by his adversary. This was simply too formidable.
When Lu Renming saw the sunglass-clad beauty throw her dagger and kill the last martial artist, he plopped down on his knees in terror.
"Sister... don't kill me, please don't kill me..." By this time, Lu Renming had already wet his pants out of fear.
After all, Lu Renming was merely a second-generation scion of a prominent family, capable of posturing but ultimately cowardly in the face of a truly ruthless opponent.
The sunglass-wearing woman evidently had no intention of sparing Lu Renming. She walked over, and her Hand Blade swiftly descended, ending Lu Renming's life without even a whimper.
As for Ah Long, who had been seriously injured earlier, the sunglass beauty did not let him off either; her Hand Blade cut him down just as quickly.
The speed with which the sunglass woman killed these people was astonishing; the entire sequence had taken less than thirty seconds.
"You… come here," called the sunglass woman to Ding Fan, who hadn't yet walked far away.
Ding Fan approached. "Is there something you need?"
"Why did you get off the car here?" the sunglass beauty asked sternly.
"I have my reasons for getting off the car…" said Ding Fan indifferently.
The sunglass beauty was taken aback. Although she could clearly sense no cultivation in Ding Fan, he remained unperturbed in her presence—even though she had just effortlessly killed four men...
Ordinary people would probably be scared witless after witnessing such a scene.
The sunglass woman pondered for a moment before slowly taking off her sunglasses.
This sunglass-clad beauty was exceptionally beautiful. Her clean, exquisite eyebrows, fair and tender skin, combined with her formidable abilities, indeed made her a perfect example of a super beauty.
Once she had removed her sunglasses, she quietly gazed at Ding Fan.
Confident in her own beauty, she believed that if Ding Fan had disembarked the car with lecherous intentions, he would surely be momentarily captivated once she took off her sunglasses...
However, to her surprise, Ding Fan merely gave her a straightforward glance, his eyes clean and clear, without a hint of lewdness...
"What are you doing on Qiu Mountain?" asked the beauty, after putting her sunglasses away onto the collar near her chest.
"Looking for something," Ding Fan answered without hiding the truth.
The situation around Qiu Mountain's Penetrative Stone Wood was now common knowledge. Surely Ding Fan wasn't here just to enjoy the scenery.
The sunglass beauty nodded, then said to Ding Fan, "I'll give you a reward if you do something for me, how about it?"
Ding Fan was taken aback—unexpecting the beauty to recruit his services.
"That depends on the reward," he said. Money wasn't a concern for Ding Fan, and if it were just money, he would have walked away.
Ding Fan appeared utterly composed and unperturbed—a point the beauty couldn't help but admire. To maintain such composure in front of someone who had just killed four men was no small feat.
"There is a ring..." she said while pulling out a ring to show him. "See if it catches your eye..."
It was a patterned ring, engraved with the character "Lu".
Ding Fan's brow furrowed tightly as he looked at the character. He recognized the ring—it signified the Lu Family of Dejiang.
Ding Fan did not know why this ring was in the possession of this woman.
"Whose ring is this?" he inquired.
"Naturally, it's mine…" said the beauty, and then took a couple of measured looks at Ding Fan. "You recognize this ring?"
"I do not," Ding Fan replied.
Until he determined her identity, it was better for Ding Fan not to reveal too much.
Ding Fan had significant ties with the Lu Family of Dejiang. The revered ancestor of the Mo Family, Ren Susu, acknowledged him as her junior brother, making him a sort of patriarch to the Lu Family. If the Lu Family faced any trouble, he was not one to stand idly by.
The woman claimed to be a member of the Lu Family; yet, if she really belonged to the Lu Family, why would she offer him the family ring?
Although curious, Ding Fan refrained from asking more questions. They had just met and broaching this subject seemed premature.
"What is your name?" asked the sunglass beauty.
"Ding Fan…" he replied candidly.
Ding Fan watched closely for a reaction from the beauty. Disciples of the Lu Family of Dejiang all knew his name; after all, he held a rank akin to a great granduncle. If she truly was from the Lu Family of Dejiang, she would recognize him.
At the mention of his name, the beauty appeared mildly surprised. "Ding Fan?"
"You've heard of me?" Ding Fan asked.
After taking a longer look at Ding Fan, she shook her head. "An elder of mine knew someone by the name of Ding Fan..."
Ding Fan's eyes brightened, suggesting that, indeed, the beauty might be a disciple of the Lu Family. "How serendipitous. What's your name, miss?"
"Lu Meiqi."
Indeed a Lu.
At this point, Ding Fan was nearly certain that Lu Meiqi was a member of the Lu Family. She probably hadn't been home the last time he visited the Lu Family and thus did not recognize him.
"What do you need me to do?" Ding Fan asked, accepting the ring Lu Meiqi had thrown to him.
"It's simple. Just accompany me to meet someone. Follow behind me and pretend to be my boyfriend. You need not worry about anything else," said Lu Meiqi nonchalantly.
Pretend boyfriend?
Ding Fan was puzzled for a while as he had not expected that Lu Meiqi would ask him to meet someone and pretend to be her boyfriend.
"I can do that, but first I need to find Tie Shu. That Tie Shu is very useful to me," Ding Fan said.
"Don't worry, I also need to find Tie Shu first, then I can go meet with other people," Lu Meiqi said, then turned to Ding Fan and spoke.
"First, we need to bury all these people's bodies."
Ding Fan found it somewhat amusing; he had been roped into doing this laborious task, but he went on to dig pits with Lu Meiqi, and they buried all four bodies together.
Ding Fan had always appeared calm and composed, which made Lu Meiqi's impression of him improve by a few points.
It took the two of them about twenty minutes to bury the four bodies.
After burying the bodies, Ding Fan and Lu Meiqi set off together through the forest.
The journey through the forest was tough, but Lu Meiqi was in no rush, and Ding Fan just followed alongside her.
In fact, Lu Meiqi was always heading towards the source of the Spiritual Energy. Ding Fan didn't point it out and just followed behind.
However, the Spiritual Energy was quite peculiar; it seemed to be in this direction at first, but when they went looking for it, it mysteriously disappeared. This left Lu Meiqi quite astonished.
After a moment of confusion, Ding Fan understood some of the principles behind it.
It seemed to be a movable source of Spiritual Energy emission. Simply put, it meant that the Spirit Grass or the ore emitting the Spiritual Energy could move on its own.
"Help... Someone please help..."
As Ding Fan and Lu Meiqi were traveling, a cry for help came from within the forest.
The voice was very young, suggesting the person calling for help was probably about eleven or twelve years old.
Lu Meiqi frowned slightly, then headed in the direction of the voice.
About three to five minutes after walking with Ding Fan, Lu Meiqi and Ding Fan found a little girl next to a large rock.
"Sister... Help me..."
The little girl's face was covered in dirt, and her clothes were stained with blood. Upon seeing Ding Fan and Lu Meiqi, she immediately started sobbing.
Although Lu Meiqi usually seemed very cold, she knelt down when she saw the little girl. "Little sister, what happened to you?"
"Sister, my mom and dad were killed by people from the Vietnam Gang... Sister, please, save me..." The girl sobbed, seeming even more heartbroken as she spoke.
"Don't worry, little sister, I won't abandon you..." Lu Meiqi knelt down and touched the little girl's head, her gaze somewhat vacant, as if the scene had reminded her of something.
Ding Fan also thought the little girl was very pitiable, but he had a feeling that she was not as simple as she seemed.
Immediately, Ding Fan used his Divine Sense to probe the little girl.
To Ding Fan's astonishment, the girl's cultivation was incredibly heaven-defying; it was probably that of a Fifth Grade Earth Level.
Fifth Grade Earth Level, that was considered a master. Ding Fan could not believe that an eleven or twelve-year-old girl would possess such a level of cultivation; she must be hiding some secret.
Then, with his Divine Sense fully activated, what happened next caught Ding Fan even more by surprise. Nearby, more than a dozen Martial Artists were lying in ambush.
Their cultivation was not particularly high, albeit they all seemed to be around Eighth or Ninth Grade Human Level.
With so many people lying in wait, there definitely was a problem.
In an instant, Ding Fan dared not relax and kept a close lock on his Divine Sense for everyone present.
"Ding Fan... come over here and carry this little sister..." Lu Meiqi turned back and spoke to Ding Fan. "Let's leave this forest together."
Ding Fan glanced at the little girl, the corners of his mouth slightly upturned. "She can walk by herself just fine. With a Fifth Grade Earth Level cultivation, there's no way she needs anyone to carry her."
Lu Meiqi was taken aback, not understanding what Ding Fan meant.
The little girl frowned, then suddenly lunged at Lu Meiqi.
But before the girl's hand could reach Lu Meiqi, Ding Fan had already moved; his figure, ghostly as it was, had already picked up Lu Meiqi and dodged far away.
Lu Meiqi was initially stunned, but by the time she had come to her senses, Ding Fan was already standing more than ten steps away from the little girl with her in his arms.
In just the blink of an eye, he had carried her so far...
Lu Meiqi looked at Ding Fan incredulously. She had felt no fluctuation of Inner Strength coming from him, but she didn't understand how Ding Fan could have such a powerful movement technique.
While Lu Meiqi was still in a daze,
Whoosh whoosh whoosh...
A series of hidden weapons were launched. The projectiles were densely packed, clearly meant to take the lives of Lu Xueqi and Ding Fan.
A chill went down Lu Xueqi's back; with such dense hidden weapons, even if she was prepared, she couldn't possibly dodge all of them.
And at that moment, Ding Fan suddenly swung his right hand, and a strong gust of wind swept out.
Swish... the flying hidden weapons were all deflected by Ding Fan's Inner Strength,
Lu Meiqi stared at Ding Fan in amazement...
That was too formidable...
