Chapter 67: Inside the survivors' settlement 1
Giving 5 kilograms of rice as a fee is indeed not much compared to the information they got. At least they became sure that the people they were looking for were indeed inside.
It seemed that those people at the gates weren't that greedy yet. Or Yang and Nate were just lucky not to meet the greedier ones.
After knowing what he was curious about, he didn't pay attention to them anymore and started playing games again while Treyton and Yang were discussing what they would be writing in their forms.
After waiting for 2 hours, they were finally able to go inside the settlement without any problems, even though Treyton and the others faked some of their information.
They only listed Treyton, Wes, Samuel, and Liam as the people who had superpowers in their team, and the rest were listed as ordinary people.
Even Treyton's last names of the people around him had changed in the paper, but it didn't have any effect on them at all.
The people were just listing the names of those people that came, and they didn't even have access to the computer because there's no electricity.
So, they were actually just having a statistic check without minding if the details were correct or not.
The thing they were actually concerned about was whether the person was an ordinary person or an ability user.
As soon as they knew that Treyton, Wes, Samuel, and Liam had abilities, they immediately became very enthusiastic about them and treated them much better.
They even offered to guide them around, but Treyton refused. The cars they have can only stay near the walls, so they have to walk on their own.
Zam and Jacob also went to them as soon as they entered the settlement.
"We found a place to stay for a while. Should we go there first?" Zam asked as soon as they met.
"Let's go there first," Treyton said.
The others are all carrying a lot of things because they were going to leave the car, so it's better to go to their temporary accommodation first.
Theo already put most of their things in his space, but the others still carried a lot of things by themselves so as not to be too conspicuous.
While they were walking to their temporary accommodation, they were all observing their surroundings.
The inside of the survivors' settlement area was full of makeshift houses scattered everywhere.
It could clearly be seen that there really weren't really a lot of houses in the place they had chosen as a settlement area, so a lot of those people who just came in had to make their own temporary houses if they didn't want to stay in the open.
Looking at the people walking around, he could see that even though they were indeed inside the settlement, which could be considered safe, they still weren't living a good life.
A lot of them were always staring at the new people that were coming in.
A lot of those stares were directed at them because it was obvious that they hadn't suffered much, which means they have some capital to support themselves, whether it's strength or other things.
A lot of them were obviously envious of them, but they didn't do anything because they knew that some people in their group were strong.
After walking for a while, they finally arrived at where some buildings were.
"We can stay on the second floor of this building, which was already the widest place I can find," Zam said while looking at the apartment building in front of them.
"How much do we need to pay?" Yang asked.
"They asked us to pay them 25 kilograms of rice or flour or pay them 25 liters of water," Zam said.
"For just a day and night stay?"
"Yes."
"Don't worry about it; just pay them water," Treyton said.
Paying 25 kilos of rice or flour is a bit expensive for just a one-night stay.
They are obviously fishing for water because a lot of people would still be reluctant to provide such a large amount of food.
Water was also scarce because the circulating water was already contaminated because of the continuous heavy rain a few days ago.
Water was surely very scarce; ordinary people wouldn't even be able to afford a lot of water for bathing.
That's also why a lot of people they saw don't seem to have cleaned themselves properly for a long time.
The people in the basketball court last night also exchanged some of their supplies to get some water from them as soon as they saw Samuel using his ability.
The owner of the building was smart and knew that those who were looking to rent a whole floor surely had the capability to pay for it, and they might even have people with superpowers among them.
As long as they had water superpowers among them, it would be very easy to provide 25 liters of water, and it wouldn't be an excessive demand for a day and night of stay.
Zam and Samuel went to the owner, who was waiting on the first floor.
He and the others waited for them to talk, and then the owner quickly guided them to the second floor.
Afterwards, the owner went to get his water jug from upstairs and let Samuel fill it with water.
The second floor wasn't that wide, but at least it was enough for them to stay in. The others just need to squeeze with each other if they don't want to go and look for another place to stay. However, it would surely be difficult to look for other places because there were only a few buildings in the settlement they were in.
The second floor was just an empty space without even a chair in it, but it was still better than staying outside.
There's nothing to even sit on, so Treyton asked Theo to bring out the sofas and tables they had.
"Did you guys learn something new?" Treyton asked after sitting on the sofa that Theo brought out.
