Chapter 187 Medicine
'Golden was here?' I worriedly searched the bed disregarding the pain shooting up my spine. 'What if I had lain on it mistakenly? What if it hurts?'
I removed my blanket, and tossed the pillows aside, but there was no sign of Golden. Tears trickled down my cheeks.
"Princess, what are you looking for?" one of the servants asked worriedly.
"Help look for a golden butterfly." I inhaled nervously, before tugging my hair. 'What if I killed… No way, maybe it is just sleeping somewhere else.' I tried to tell myself it wasn't possible.
"Princess, your window is open." One of the servants called in alarm.
'How was it possible? I had locked the window before going to bed…' I rushed to the window, and to my shock, the window was open.
"Maybe the butterfly flew out of the room through the window." The servant tried to assure me.
My hands weakly rested on the window panel, I looked out into the night, but there was no sign of Golden.
'Why would it leave when it had requested to stay with me? Could it be that it wanted to fly?' I exhaled shakily.
Green rushed back into the room and brought a cup of warm medicine. My nose scrunched when the aroma hit my nostrils.
"Princess, here is your medicine." She flashed a smile of worry.
I stared down at the cup of medicine, and my stomach churned. I wrapped my arms around myself. "Do I have to drink it? I only had a nightmare, it is not like I am sick or something."
"Princess, you know you have always had this medicine due to your health. And not only does it make you feel better. It also helps to drive away nightmares." Green brought the cup closer, but I took a step back.
"I am fine now, I don't need the medicine."
"Your mother ordered us to give you medicine whenever you had a nightmare." The other servant who had interjected, her voice was cautious.
I looked at their faces, and something inside me told me not to drink it. But I shrugged it off, 'Maybe I am getting paranoid now.'
I collected the medicine from Green. As I brought the medicine closer to my mouth, the image of the wolf getting chained flickered through my head, and the look of helplessness, and when it looked like it was begging for my help, made shivers down my spine.
I ignored the feeling, 'If I drink I'll be fine, it's not like it is the first time I've had it before, what could go wrong?'
The warmth of the mug spread across my lips, then something hit my hand, causing me to let go, out of shock.
A yelp escaped my lips as I instinctively jumped back. The servants quickly began to gather the broken mug and clear the mess.
I held my hand to my chest. 'What could have hit my hand? And who or what was it?' I looked around my room, and my eyes widened in relief when I found Golden sitting on the panel of the window.
"You are back? Where did you go?" I walked towards it, then I gently carried it in my hand, bringing it closer to my face.
"I apologize for making you worry princess. I heard the butterflies are holding a feast tonight, so I thought I could find some information regarding my home." It lowered it in dejection.
Seeing its sadness, I felt a small ache in my chest. "It is okay, no need to feel sad about it, but let me know when you are going out, so I won't get worried."
"Princess, I will get you another medicine…" She paused. "…princess… sometimes, I worry when you talk like they can truly speak back. They are normal butterflies, unlike the magical ones." Her words made the other servants chuckle.
"Is that so?" I locked the window and limped to my bed. My feet burned as if I had just walked over hundreds of hot nails.
The servants bowed their heads and didn't dare to utter a word, while Green hurried out of my room to bring another medicine.
I turned to Golden. "So did you get any information?"
"Hmm… Princess, I don't know if I can say this without offending you."
My brows furrowed, both from pain and curiosity. "Don't withhold anything from me." I patted it with my finger.
"I know you Fae have a bad relationship with the outside world… and one of the butterflies, an Emperor butterfly told me it saw a golden root, that shimmers like the sun in the…."
"Go on."
"In the witches' realm." It fidgeted with its tiny hands. " You don't have to go. I know how dangerous it is for you… I might just make the journey by myself."
It flew with its head lowered towards the window.
My fingers trembled slightly. 'The witches' realm? Is the golden root the same as the one I have seen in my dream? Was that even a dream?'
Going to the witch's realm is a very bad idea. Not after they have betrayed the Fae's trust. I have read about history in the library.
They caused the sacred tree to disappear from existence which had resulted in the reduction of magic in the fae realm. If I go to the witches' realm, I doubt I would be accepted back into the fae realm.
The cost to help Golden was too high, it was one that I could not afford to pay. But what chances does it have to make this journey alone? It won't even make it to the witches' realm not to talk about finding the golden root.
I sighed, burying my head in my palms. 'What is happening to me lately?'
'Don't drink the medicine, they are lying to you. It doesn't help you get better… it will trap your powers." Golden's voice echoed from beside me.
I turned to my side, only to find it sitting on my pillow. "How do you know that? It has been helping me for as long as I can remember." A deep frown marred my face.
