Chapter 15: The Novel World's Power Scale
The sun slowly sank in the sky, giving way to a quiet, cool night that enveloped the world.
Inside his room, Arthur lay lazily on his bed, staring at the ceiling in a daze.
"What's with Nora? Why is she backing out of our engagement breakup?" he muttered, furrowing his brows.
In the novel, this engagement breakup marked the beginning of a more miserable life for Arthur Vanitas.
Though not explicitly detailed, it's said that Arthur endured one punishment after another at Elizabeth's hands.
Given how crucial the engagement was to the relationship between the Vanitas and Luvina families, it was natural for Elizabeth to be furious.
However, the root cause of the engagement issues wasn't Arthur—it was Nora.
Indirectly, Nora in the novel was the main source of Arthur's suffering.
That's why Arthur despised Nora—she was self-centered and arrogant.
Even in the novel, Nora often caused trouble for the protagonist, Abel, sometimes giving him a headache that nearly cost him his life.
As he read the novel in the past, he often scoffed at Nora, thinking of her as a disastrous plague.
Now, the character he'd once thought of as a "disastrous plague" was behaving strangely by defending their engagement.
"Huh..." Arthur sighed, massaging his temples. "This is really troublesome."
He closed his eyes, allowing his mind to settle. Once he felt calm enough, he opened them again.
"Status," he muttered.
[Status Panel]

[—Description—: A worthless individual who cannot use magic. Destined to be a stepping stone for others, ultimately meeting a tragic end.]
In an instant, his status panel appeared before him. At the sight of how pathetic it looked, the corners of his mouth twitched.
"Really pitiful..." he muttered, tapping his forehead.
However, he didn't linger in sadness for long. His purpose in checking the status wasn't to lament his fate but to assess the scale of power in this world.
His gaze shifted to the "Talent" section, and his thoughts returned to the talent tiers in this world.
"If I remember correctly, talent here is divided into five levels," he whispered, rubbing his chin.
Talent was a scale that measured one's potential in magic use. The tiers were divided into five: white, green, blue, red, and the highest—gold, often referred to as "blessed by the gods."
White talent indicated limited potential and was considered "ordinary." Green talent had higher potential but wasn't particularly exceptional.
As he recalled, the Magic Academy of Freya—the strongest academy on the continent—required a "green" level talent for admission.
Those with white talent had no qualifications to enter.
Although "green" talent wasn't particularly special, only 1 in 1,000 people possessed it. In other words, just one person in a thousand was lucky enough to have it.
Above "green" talent was "blue" talent, which was rarer and more impressive. Those with "blue" talent were already considered gifted.
The average powerful mage in this world had "blue" talent, which highlighted how remarkable its possessor was.
Above that was "red" talent—a much rarer level. In the novels, it was said that only about twenty people in the world possessed it.
"As I recall, the Magic Emperor of the Magic Empire of Luminus has legendary red talent. Nora should also have red talent," Arthur thought, his eyes narrowing slightly.
The Magic Emperor was the strongest figure in the Magic Empire of Luminus and among the most powerful individuals on the continent. If there was anyone Arthur least wanted to offend, it was the Magic Emperor.
He feared the Magic Emperor might uncover the secrets within him, such as his soul originating from Japan and the existence of the System.
If discovered, he'd be dead before even starting his legendary journey.
"Unfortunately, that's absolutely impossible..." Arthur sighed helplessly.
With the engagement between him and Nora unbroken, it meant he would inevitably cross paths with the Magic Emperor sooner or later.
So, he could only hope the Magic Emperor wouldn't notice anything unusual about him.
Shaking off his thoughts, he refocused on the "Talent" section.
'And the last one is the golden talent...' he muttered.
Arthur's expression grew serious as he recalled the only person who possessed such a talent—the protagonist of the novel, Abel.
It was said that no one in the history of mankind had ever possessed golden talent.
Abel's existence was an anomaly that shouldn't have been possible.
'As expected of the protagonist… Even his talent is the highest in human history. That damn author really loves him!' Arthur grumbled in annoyance.
In the past, while reading the novel, he had accepted that the protagonist would be favored over others. But now... he was genuinely angry at the author!
After all, he had become Arthur Vanitas, and his future destiny was to die at the hands of the protagonist.
If only the author had given Arthur Vanitas some plot armor, maybe he wouldn't feel so anxious all the time.
"Huh..." Arthur exhaled deeply, trying to rid himself of the frustration.
He then shifted his gaze to the "Specialty" column and muttered, "Specialties should be 'Controller' and 'Runic.'"
Although this world was filled with magic, it didn't mean that everyone—especially humans—could use ranged magic attacks. Many couldn't cast magic at all and were categorized as "Runic."
Unable to use long-distance magic, Runics relied on weapons to channel their magic power. Their weapons ranged from swords and spears to bows and more.
Often underestimated, Runics actually possessed greater speed and deadlier attacks than Controllers.
For example, his family—the Vanitas family—was not made up of Controllers, but all of its descendants specialized in "Runic."
His father, Jacob Vanitas, was a sword master with a fire magic element.
He was the most powerful Runic in the Magic Empire of Luminus and the second most powerful figure, after the Magic Emperor himself.
That was why the Vanitas family had established such a strong position in the Empire, becoming one of the most prominent families next to the Imperial family.
Arthur's gaze shifted to the "Realm" column, and he recalled the power tiers in this world.
There were seven levels of mages in this world: Apprentice Mage, Intermediate Mage, Advanced Mage, Great Mage, Archmage, Divine Mage, and finally, the Monarch Mage.
On the continent, the most powerful mages were the Divine Mages, and their numbers were few—easily counted on one hand.
Some of them were prominently featured in the novels: the Magic Emperor of the Magic Empire of Luminus, the Principal of the Magic Academy of Freya, and other key figures who would appear in the next five hundred chapters.
As for the Monarch Mage, no one had reached that level yet. However, in the future, the protagonist, Abel, would attain it and become the first to do so in the history of this world.
Arthur's gaze then shifted to the "Element Affinity" column.
Element affinity referred to one's compatibility with a particular element. There were four common elements that mages usually had: fire, wind, earth, and water.
Of course, some had affinities with elements beyond these four—such as thunder, darkness, light, and others. These individuals were referred to as "The Blessed Ones."
The last column was "Spells Mastery," which indicated one's proficiency with magic spells.
There were many levels of spells, including Basic spells, Intermediate spells, High spells, Holy spells, Ancient spells, and World spells.
The highest was the Law spell, said to be mastered only by the Monarch Mage.
After recalling all the details from the novel, Arthur closed his status panel and shut his eyes.
"System, are you there?"
