Chapter 153 - Brothers
Gu Yao briefly explained the situation in the canyon and asked the other cultivators what their plans were. He and Chi Changye had offended many cultivators from the Changxian Sect and would not stay behind to let those people gather and cause trouble.
The battle below had been earth-shattering and intense. The cultivators above had noticed it. At the time, they were thankful that they stayed above due to Chi Changye’s presence. If they had followed him, they likely would have become nourishment for that spirit tree. Even if they only got to sip the soup, it wouldn’t have been a pleasant experience. So, upon hearing Gu Yao’s words, they immediately decided to leave, lest they be targeted by the Changxian Sect.
The cultivators from Tianlin Continent gathered here then dispersed, flying off in different directions on their magic tools. Chi Changye and Gu Yao also took Tian Feirong and the others and temporarily left, seeking a hidden place to rest.
After setting up a simple cave dwelling, Gu Yao called out the chubby boy’s crystal snake. Its injuries hadn’t been dealt with, and it would take an unknown amount of time to heal on its own, as the wounds were caused by the Black Flame. Now, the crystal snake wasn’t an enemy of the kitten, but a spirit beast contracted to the chubby boy, and it could play a huge role in such a place.
After Gu Yao promised the kitten plenty of benefits, it reluctantly waved its paw at the crystal snake. Grey-black smoke began to rise from the snake’s body.
As the smoke dissipated, the spots and symptoms on the crystal snake’s body did indeed lessen significantly. The chubby boy immediately fed it a healing pill, and the wounds began to heal at a visible speed.
At first, the crystal snake restrained its urge to flee, being cautious in front of the kitten. Gu Yao couldn’t help but laugh as he watched. He then described the crystal snake’s “heroic feats” at the bottom of the valley to Tian Feirong and the chubby boy.
The two of them were both shocked and amused. They hadn’t expected the snake to be like this.
Although the chubby boy knew that the crystal snake had proactively contracted with him for a purpose, he was still quite happy. This was a huge gift that had been willingly offered to him. With the crystal snake around, while they might not be able to sweep through the entire secret realm like Chi Changye, it was enough to ensure his and Tian Feirong’s safety.
The chubby boy happily reached out to pet the crystal snake’s head. The snake didn’t mind that its master was weaker than it and happily rubbed back against him.
Tian Feirong couldn’t help but feel envious. Why hadn’t a powerful demon beast come to him? The chubby boy’s luck was too good.
The kitten bared its teeth and growled at the crystal snake, clearly displeased. The crystal snake quickly slithered into the chubby boy’s sleeve.
Gu Yao tugged at the kitten’s ear and told it to stop bullying the snake. He then comforted the envious and slightly disheartened Tian Feirong: “Second Brother Tian, if it had been a fire-type demon beast, it definitely would have contracted with you. Don’t be discouraged. Without the crystal snake’s help, the chubby boy would be no match for you.”
The chubby boy didn’t mind; he was in a good mood and didn’t care about these words at all.
Tian Feirong was somewhat comforted, but he also understood that such opportunities were rare and could not be sought after. The brotherly bond between him and the chubby boy couldn’t be severed by a small snake.
When the crystal snake had lunged toward them earlier, the chubby boy had rushed out to block it. Though he had been pulled away, the snake had followed him, scaring him into a cold sweat. Thankfully, the result had been a good one.
When they learned that Chi Changye had single-handedly obtained two Blood Liuli Fruits, Tian Feirong and the chubby boy were also happy for him and Gu Yao. In their eyes, with the Blood Liuli Fruits, even if Chi Changye didn’t have a Tianyuan Pill, he could still successfully form his core, considering he was someone who had successfully established his foundation without even using a Foundation Establishment Pill.
Chi Changye had entrusted the Blood Liuli Fruits to Gu Yao for safekeeping, and Gu Yao had placed them in the Pill Pavilion, where there was a space that could block spiritual energy and suppress their aura.
He had inspected them and found that the Blood Liuli Fruits didn’t contain any seeds. This meant that cultivating a Blood Liuli Tree was almost impossible under current conditions. Even in the memories left by the spiritual ancestor, he hadn’t found any information about how to cultivate the Blood Liuli Tree.
This made Gu Yao realize that, despite the unique technological civilization of the starry world, it wasn’t omnipotent. When the Blood Liuli Fruits had ripened, he saw that the spiritual tree was slowly withering. It seemed that the mission of this spirit tree had come to an end.
Perhaps by now, there was nothing left. Who knew if, in a hundred or a thousand years, the environment there could nurture another Blood Liuli Tree.
In the past, when reading about how rare and irreplaceable heaven and earth treasures were, and how they couldn’t be cultivated, he had found it hard to understand. But now, through this personal experience, he started to understand. Even if he hadn’t obtained the Blood Liuli Fruit, simply having witnessed it left him with no regrets.
After resting, the four humans and two beasts set off again. The crystal snake carefully peeked out to look at Gu Yao, but it was immediately stared back into hiding by the kitten. This made Gu Yao feel like he was carrying two children, always bickering and playful because they hadn’t grown up yet. It was quite childish.
They had encountered many demon beasts in the secret realm, but few were as agile as the kitten and the crystal snake. It was likely that the bloodline and spiritual intelligence of this crystal snake were quite high, and it still had considerable potential for growth in the future.
The crystal snake’s performance next made everyone look at it with new respect. It actually led the chubby boy and Gu Yao as they swept through several places, all of which it had previously visited, greatly increasing their haul. In the end, even Tian Feirong looked at the crystal snake with immense fondness.
However, the kitten only became more and more irritable. Damn it!!
It just couldn’t stop showing off, abandoning even its beastly dignity. Not only did it flatter and please its own master, but now it was trying to win favor with other cultivators. If the big demons knew about such a crystal snake, it would surely embarrass the demon beasts and get torn apart.
After getting irritated, the kitten became quite depressed. Didn’t this make it seem useless? Indeed, this little snake was cunning and hateful! Unable to contain its frustration, the kitten glared at the snake again.
As a result, the points marked on the map were bypassed. The crystal snake’s role was far more useful than that map. Gu Yao secretly muttered to Chi Changye, “If I had known it would be this useful, I would’ve caught a demon beast and contracted it the moment we came in.”
Of course, this was just a joke. He dared not say that there were few demon beasts with the crystal snake’s abilities. Even just its speed was unmatched by most.
One day, they came across a group of cultivators being chased by a flock of flying birds, and they rescued them. Because they were quite far away, Tian Feirong recognized that one of them was his older brother. The other companions were also from Tianhai Sect, and he had seen them before at Tianshui Square.
Before Chi Changye could make a move, Gu Yao and the others charged in and killed several of the birds. Seeing they couldn’t win, the remaining birds flapped their wings and fled.
They were now not far from the Cangkun Hall, their shared destination, so they traveled together.
Compared to Tian Feirong, his older brother and the other Tianhai Sect cultivators looked much more disheveled. However, they were extremely grateful and respectful toward Gu Yao and Chi Changye. If it weren’t for Chi Changye’s warning, they wouldn’t have dared venture so deep into the secret realm.
Their harvests along the way were still quite substantial. After they left and processed these gains, their strength would rise significantly, perhaps equivalent to more than a decade’s worth of cultivation effort.
Tian Feirong anticipated that his older brother wouldn’t let this opportunity to improve pass by and would definitely enter the secret realm. However, the secret realm was vast, and finding his older brother would be no easy task. So, he had been worried about his brother’s safety. Now, they had finally crossed paths, and his anxious heart could finally relax.
After the joy of their reunion faded, Tian Feirong felt a little awkward, remembering his origins. Although his situation had been caused by his mother, and he could never truly hate her, the fact that he was alive was a gift from the entire Tian family. This made it hard for him to harbor hatred for his mother.
After all, if his aptitude had been tested and identified, the family would certainly have focused their resources on him instead of his older brother. His older brother’s resources would have been reduced as a result. From his mother’s perspective, how could she allow a non-biological son to affect the future of her biological one?
During a break, Tian Feiyang came to speak with his second brother. When they met, Eldest Brother Tian had a lot of questions.
“Second Brother, has there been a problem with your spiritual power?” When Tian Feirong made a move earlier, he had noticed that the originally light blue flame energy had turned bright red. “Could it be a change caused by advancing in cultivation?”
Seeing the concern and worry in his older brother’s eyes, Tian Feirong made a secret decision in his heart. He would never let his brother find out about this. They had grown up together, and his older brother had taken good care of him. They were brothers by heart.
Thinking this through, he felt much lighter, and his brows relaxed as he replied, “It’s not due to an advancement, but rather because I used a special cultivation technique to conceal my original appearance. I only found out about my unique constitution because of the letter you sent back, big brother…”
Tian Feirong shared with Tian Feiyang the secret of his Hidden Blue Flame Body and also briefly mentioned the origins of the Tian family. His purpose was to make his older brother aware of the situation. Tian Feiyang was taken aback, never having known about the family’s background, despite being a member of the Tián family.
Especially since there seemed to be a connection with the recently exposed “Exterminators.” Tian Feiyang was relieved that he had been able to warn his brother in time. If those people had targeted them, the consequences were unimaginable.
“Thankfully, you’re alright, Second Brother. So, it turns out your lack of progress in cultivation was due to your constitution. Do you have a corresponding cultivation method now?” Tian Feiyang guessed.
“Yes,” Tian Feirong said excitedly, “You have no idea how fast my cultivation is progressing now. It used to be as difficult as an old ox dragging a cart. There was no way to make progress. But big brother, from now on, let’s work together. We might not be able to restore the glory of our ancestors, but at the very least, we won’t let anyone easily bully our Tian family.”
Tian Fēiyang smiled at his younger brother’s enthusiasm and gave him a playful punch on the shoulder, saying, “You’re right. A tall tree is easily struck by the wind. As long as our Tian family has a foothold in the Tianlin continent, that’s all we need.”
Tian Feirong also punched his older brother, and the two brothers exchanged smiles.
