Troublemaker’s Guide to Immortality

Chapter 109: Fate’s Twisting Favor

A single voice may not be loud, but when countless voices merge, they become an unstoppable tide.

Ye Danxia's entire body went limp.

She could do nothing but stare tearfully at Zhao Wuji.

"Master is the Sect Leader. If he wills it, he can save me."

Suddenly, a surprised voice cut through the tension.

"Eh? What's everyone doing here? No wonder I couldn't find a single person while walking around the sect," a surprised voice called out.

That voice… Zhao Wuji's expression flickered.

The crowd turned in surprise.

The newcomers were a pair of identical twins—Zhou Li and Zhou Dai.

They were Zhao Wuji's third and fourth disciples.

Though twins, their personalities were quite different. Zhou Li was brash and straightforward, while Zhou Dai was cautious and calculating. What they shared was their love for battle.

Because of that, they were almost always out on sect missions, or preparing to leave on one.

They must have just returned to report a completed mission.

Zhao Wuji welcomed the interruption. He quickly called out, "Zhou Li, Zhou Dai, come forward."

Zhou Li, oblivious to the tense atmosphere, strode over with his usual carefree grin.

Zhou Dai, on the other hand, scanned the area sharply. Something was off.

"Eh? Second Senior Brother, what are you doing standing there?" Zhou Li spotted Gu Jinghong and clapped him on the shoulder.

Gu Jinghong silently removed his hand.

"Second Senior Brother, why are you being so cold?" Zhou Li frowned.

It had been a long time since the brothers reunited. Shouldn't this be a time for bonding?

"Third Junior Brother," Gu Jinghong said flatly, "don't call me Second Senior Brother anymore. I'm no longer part of Master's lineage."

No longer part of his lineage?

What did that mean?

Zhou Li's expression changed sharply. Just as he opened his mouth, Zhou Dai tugged him firmly.

Zhou Li might be reckless, but he was used to listening to his brother. He bit back his words.

Together, the twins approached Zhao Wuji and bowed respectfully.

Zhou Dai reported, "Master, the mission was successfully completed. We identified ten demon tribe hideouts. The full details have already been submitted to the Demon-Slaying Alliance. Because our contribution was significant, the Alliance issued us a commendation."

He stepped forward and respectfully presented a token, engraved with the bold calligraphy of two characters: Demon-Slaying.

The Demon-Slaying Token.

Even though it was the lowest tier, a green token, it was still a Demon-Slaying Token.

Zhao Wuji's eyes lit up.

These days, the conflict between the human and demon races was escalating. A powerful Demon Sovereign had emerged recently, his cultivation so overwhelming that even the combined strike from the top experts of the Four Holy Lands had failed to kill him. He was gravely wounded, yes, but still managed to escape. Since then, the demon race had shifted tactics, moving from overt attacks to covert infiltration—planting hidden schemes across cities.

In response, the Four Holy Lands spearheaded the creation of the Demon-Slaying Alliance, which united nearly all sects under one cause: stopping the spread of demonic influence.

To motivate cultivators, the Alliance issued Demon-Slaying Tokens as rewards for major contributions. Zhou Li and Zhou Dai had earned a green token—the lowest rank—but to uncover ten demon hideouts and return alive with commendation? That was something no one else in the Tianxing Sect had accomplished.

Moreover, disciples holding a Demon-Slaying Token received protection under the Alliance. Even if they broke sect rules, they would be judged by the Alliance, not their original sect.

"Give it to me!" Zhao Wuji's eyes sparkled with urgency.

Zhou Li and Zhou Dai exchanged a glance. They didn't understand why their master was so excited, but they assumed he was simply proud.

Both smiled faintly.

Zhou Dai stepped forward and handed the token over respectfully.

"Well done, both of you!" Zhao Wuji smiled warmly.

The rare praise left Zhou Li and Zhou Dai a little moved. Their master was seldom so expressive.

Then came the next moment.

"This token," Zhao Wuji asked, "now that you've given it to me, do you grant me the right to use it as I see fit?"

The twins hesitated briefly, then nodded. "Of course."

"You're giving it willingly?" Zhao Wuji pressed.

He had to confirm this. If it wasn't voluntary, the token would hold no weight.

Once again, they gave their affirmation.

Only then did Zhao Wuji relax. "Then I, in turn, gift this decree to your youngest junior sister! Danxia, come forward!"

Zhou Li & Zhou Dai: "???"

Gu Jinghong burst out laughing.

"Before, I was the one suffering. Now it's their turn."

How amusing.

Ye Danxia didn't understand the decree's significance, but she hurried forward at Zhao Wuji's command.

He solemnly placed the token in her hands. "The Alliance has decreed that decree holders fall under its jurisdiction—even if they commit crimes! Danxia's case must now be judged by the Alliance!"

Zhao Wuji smirked.

"This little disciple of mine must be blessed by fate. Otherwise, how could this decree arrive at such a perfect moment?"

Though the Alliance would eventually send envoys to judge her, the delay gave him room to maneuver. His father, a member of Qingxiao Pavilion, could easily stall the proceedings—indefinitely, if needed.

Ye Danxia's eyes shone as she clutched the decree like a lifeline.

Zhou Li studied this sudden "junior sister."

His first thought: "Why does she feel so… familiar? Like I instinctively want to protect her?"

Then reality crashed down.

Familiar? Protect her?

He and his brother had risked their lives for that decree—and now it was just handed over without a word?

Couldn't Master at least have asked?

That fleeting feeling vanished. Zhou Li's expression darkened, but before he could protest, Zhou Dai pulled him back with a subtle shake of his head.

Swallowing his anger, Zhou Li fell silent.

Zhou Dai's eyes narrowed in thought.

"We've been gone half a year… and everything's changed."

A new junior sister? Second Senior Brother's coldness? Where was First Senior Brother? And why was everyone gathered at the spiritual fields?

Until he understood, he wouldn't act recklessly.

"Well? Does this satisfy the rules?" With Ye Danxia's life secured, Zhao Wuji's mood lifted—so much that he briefly forgot about losing control of the spiritual fields.
