Chapter 9 - The Showdown!
-Who’s the BJ that’s having a 1:1 League of Legends match with Mia on Saturday?
-Don’t know well. Never seen them before. Why are they having a 1:1 match?
-They’re a rookie who started broadcasting about a week ago. Called BJ Hani, same Platinum tier as Mia.
-ㅋㅋㅋ Is this the Hyeji Supreme Tournament to determine the #1 Hyeji ranking?
-No, no. Hani’s main position is jungle. Her sub-positions are ADC or top. If you search from Season 4 when she first started League of Legends, her support ratio isn’t even 10%.
-Mia’s going to get schooled. How dare a tool arrogantly challenge to a 1:1 match!
-Isn’t it disgusting when a butcher defends another butcher? Don’t you always say jungle difference when you see how our team’s jungler performs?
-Position and 1:1 match skills are unrelated. Haven’t you seen the League of Legends All-Star match? It’s just a difference in individual skill.
The League of Legends tab in the Internet Broadcasting Gallery was burning up.
With the League of Legends World Series over and the pro season in its off-season, it was a time without any particular topics.
A small event that they could chew on and taste had appeared.
Moreover, with keywords like a 1:1 match between a duo bus ‘Hyeji’ and a butcher, support and jungle users who empathized fiercely clashed, growing the topic.
And finally, on the day of the match.
More viewers than expected turned their eyes to New Continent TV.
“Alright, are both of you ready?”
“Start already!”
“Yes.”
The situation had grown bigger than expected.
As expected of a professional BJ, Lark seemed to have caught on to the flow and decided to participate to host the 1:1 match.
“The hero for the first match is Lulu. Mia-nim chose it. Then let’s start the game right away!”
-Ah, as expected, the fundamental Hyeji.
-Can’t resist Lulu.
-My mouth is watering for the Lulu Supreme Tournament.
Lulu is the hero Mia has handled and picked the most.
I heard her mastery has exceeded 700,000.
As such, it was all too easy to predict that Mia would choose Lulu as her hero.
‘Since my main position is jungle, she probably thought my Lulu mastery would be terrible. If you think like that, it would naturally be a sharp strategic choice, but…’
It’s really unfortunate for Mia, but that plan was wrong.
My main position is jungle, but my sub-positions are ADC and top.
And among them, top was quite a love-hate lane for me.
By nature, I didn’t like picking tanks.
So when assigned to the top lane, I always chose heroes that could attack from range like Kennen, Quinn, Vayne, and Teemo.
And then one day… when the rune system was overhauled, a major upheaval occurred in the top lane as well.
Support heroes including Lulu came up to the top… that top lane which was called the sacred lane of men.
‘I had a lot of fun with top Lulu back then.’
Hit with auto-attacks, trigger Electrocute with E+Q skills… and if you went for Hextech Revolver, a component of the now-removed Hextech Gunblade, as your first item, an insane burst of damage that you wouldn’t expect from a support would come out.
And if you took Ignite, there were numerous surprise kill opportunities from early on.
I played moderately on my main account, but on my smurf, I played almost only top Lulu for an entire season.
If we consider mastery, it’s roughly between 250,000 and 300,000?
Looking at the numbers like that, it’s about half the level of Mia’s Lulu mastery, but what this implies is significant.
‘Mia-nim’s mastery would have been built up playing 2:2 in the bottom lane, but mine was built up fighting 1:1 in the top lane.’
This match is a 1:1 match played in mid.
Mia will be confident that her Lulu experience is far ahead, but in fact, under this kind of match setup, I even crush that.
“Oh, they diverged in runes. Mia-nim took Aery and Hani-nim took Electrocute.”
It was a not bad choice leading from Aery to Nullifying Orb, Absolute Focus, and Scorch.
The secondary runes of Biscuit Delivery and Time Warp Tonic aiming for stability were not bad either.
But I had no intention of dragging this match until 6 minutes when the last biscuit appears.
‘I’ll end it before level 6.’
In games, you never know what variables might appear if it drags on.
In that sense, choosing Electrocute could be a risk.
To trigger the rune, you had to land 3 attacks or skills within 3 seconds.
It’s a much harder rune to proc compared to Aery.
‘But that’s why it’s much more powerful when it does succeed. And with Taste of Blood and Ravenous Hunter, I get some sustain too.’
I chose the same secondary runes as Mia.
Going all-in on offense could lead to irreversible mistakes if I’m not careful.
Anyway, after each of us bought our items, we faced each other in mid.
“Hehehehehe! Uehehehehehe!”
Mia’s Lulu comes with crazy taunts.
Lulu’s powerful mental attack, called one of the 3 great taunts in League of Legends along with Teemo and Alistar.
Not getting caught up in that, I checked Mia’s items.
“The items diverged slightly too. Mia-nim has Corrupting Potion… considering the Biscuits too, she’s truly a potion tycoon. On the other hand, Hani-nim has Doran’s Ring and 2 potions. Hmm, we’ll have to see which choice will end up smiling.”
With this, Mia’s strategy became clear.
She plans to slowly whittle down health with Aery while maintaining superior sustain herself to drag out the game as long as possible and dry out the opponent.
‘It’s not bad. But you’ll know when you try it yourself. Nothing goes perfectly according to plan.’
When I played top Lulu in the past, Corrupting Potion was a staple starting item.
That’s why I know its drawbacks well too.
If you take Teleport as your summoner spell, it could be somewhat offset, but for me who believed in Ignite top Lulu, that was never an acceptable choice.
‘Lulu’s skills consume more mana than you’d think. But if you didn’t choose the Manaflow Band rune, and your item isn’t Spellthief’s Edge which has mana regeneration, the result is obvious.’
As a support Lulu, you don’t feel much mana shortage.
There’s an ADC in lane to help with harass, and you can recover some mana through runes and support items.
But it’s different in a 1:1.
Knowing this fact well through top Lulu, I started strongly pressuring the lane from early on, mixing in skill harass.
“Ooh, the trades are sharp from both sides. Still, it seems better to be a bit cautious early on due to the rune difference, but Hani-nim is not backing down at all.”
Electrocute was a rune that was hard to proc at level 1 when you only have one skill, as it requires landing 3 basic attacks or skills within 3 seconds.
On the other hand, Aery was a rune that procs every time you land an attack on cooldown.
But if I calculate that and go slowly, I might fall into Mia’s plan of a long game.
I quickly reached level 3 while accepting some health loss.
“With this, Hani-nim took some losses early on. She’s already used one potion. On the other hand, Mia-nim still has plenty of potions. A biscuit has been created too, so in my sharp judgment, Mia-nim seems to be at an advantage.”
Thinking the same herself, Mia executes her taunt motion once again.
A crazy laugh that makes you feel like you need to go out for lunch.
Not getting caught up in that, I rather attempt heated trades.
“Eh? Hani-nim is absolutely not backing down. She’s a complete manh… no, womanly woman. Who would see this person as a jungler? This is the very essence of a top solo laner. The true man’s lane that smells of sweat!”
-My chest swells with pride at this mindless trading.
-Hyejis who ride duo buses should be hit all day long.
-Please stop the Hyeji hate. Hyejis want to climb tiers by bus too!
-But I think Hani-nim’s side doesn’t look bad? They both have biscuits anyway so the health side is fine for both, but doesn’t it seem like mana is starting to run short?
We use E skill and combo Q skill, while both being cautious with W.
Mana decreases as rapidly as the skills are used fiercely.
Health is still plentiful, but Mia’s Lulu, who now doesn’t even have mana left to use one skill, can be seen panicking and not knowing what to do.
On the other hand, because I started with Doran’s Ring, I was steadily recovering 6 mana every time I killed a minion, and I still had enough leeway to use skills about 3 times.
“Huh? Was this planned from the start? They both have enough health, but there’s a big difference in the amount of mana left. This makes it awkward to trade. Mia-nim can only use auto attacks, while Hani-nim can use skills. Naturally, she’ll be pushed back and it’ll be hard to secure CS like this.”
It’s not necessary to get a kill.
If you kill 100 minions first to achieve 100 CS, that’s a victory too.
In that sense, the gradually widening CS difference while being pressured was a meaningful result.
“They can both recall home once, but what choice will they make? Actually, if they both recall, it’s too much of a loss for Mia-nim. The Corrupting Potion will recharge, but there’s a difference in the gold they currently have. The CS difference has widened to over 15… It might be better to try to decide the match somehow now.”
Lark’s commentary was accurate.
I could continue pressuring or it would be good to follow if she recalls.
The situation was becoming gradually more favorable.
Finally, unable to bear it, Mia stepped forward and initiated a strong trade.
Both our levels are 5.
Summoner spells are the same, Ignite and Flash.
As Electrocute properly triggers and explosive damage goes in, Mia panics as her health suddenly drops below half and uses Flash to escape.
I follow with my own Flash, use Ignite, and use the W skill I had been saving on myself to increase attack speed and movement speed.
Mia, who had used up all her remaining mana in the short trade just now, could only helplessly hope for luck and flee towards the safety of her tower.
Two additional auto attacks delivered while taking tower hits as I chase to the end.
It was finished by a hair’s breadth.
“Perfect kill angle! Hani-nim’s Lulu is also finished off by the tower. But because Mia-nim’s Lulu died first, the winner of the first game is Hani-nim!”
-No way, a Lulu with over 700,000 mastery loses?
-Is Hani a god! Is Hani a god! Is Hani a god!
-Is this the difference between a ‘tool’ and a ‘butcher’?
-Mom! I want to be a butcher when I grow up.
Along with the viewers’ cheers, suddenly unexpected water balloons started bursting in the broadcast.
I quickly thank the viewers who rushed to join the fan club and prepare for the next match.
It’s only 1:0 now.
The goal is 3:0!
I move forward for a perfect victory.
