Chapter 128: Rain Ninja Surrender
(bonus)

"Maybe... we should talk to Kumo about dealing with Konoha together," Ōnoki mused to himself as he watched Kitsuchi leave. While leading the Iwagakure forces out of the Land of Rain (Ame), his mind was busy turning over ideas.
"If we don't figure this out, it'll feel like there's always a sword hanging over our heads, ready to cut us down at any moment—taking not just me, but all of Iwagakure with it."
He frowned, deep in thought. "The Hidden Cloud (Kumo) supposedly has a space-time jutsu too, called the Heavenly Transfer Technique, right? It's mostly for moving supplies, though. Still... if we could get our hands on it, maybe we could reverse-engineer a way to counter Konoha's Flying Thunder God Mass Teleportation Array."
Ōnoki's eyes gleamed. "Yeah, this could work... but it'll take some finesse. There's no way Kumo would just hand over one of their precious secrets to us so easily."
He smirked to himself. "No, I'll need to let them suffer at the hands of Konoha first—especially that Uchiha Kaito. Once they've taken some major losses, they'll be a lot more willing to cooperate."
Ōnoki made up his mind. "Rushing into this would be a bad move. Let's wait until Kumo gets their fill of humiliation before making a move."
As for the Hidden Mist (Kiri)?
He dismissed the idea almost immediately. "Forget it. Not only does Iwagakure have a long-standing grudge with them, but they're not even in the same league as Kumo when it comes to research. Bringing them in wouldn't accomplish much."

Meanwhile, back with Kaito and his team...
Once Ōnoki and the Iwagakure forces had retreated, Kaito wasted no time leading his group straight to the gates of Amegakure.
"Surrender, will you?" Kaito called out, his voice calm but firm. "You saw how the last fight went—do you really think you stand a better chance than Iwagakure did?"
He grinned. "Don't throw your lives away. Surrender, and you get to keep them. Isn't that a better deal?"
He tilted his head. "Or... are you waiting for Hanzō to save you? If so, you might want to take a look at this."
With that, Kaito dramatically revealed a body to the gathered Rain Ninjas—the unmistakable corpse of Hanzō of the Salamander.
The reaction was immediate.
"That's... no way! There's no way Lord Hanzō could've been killed so easily!"
The Rain Ninjas stared in disbelief. To them, Hanzō was like a god—a living legend. The idea that he could have been defeated, let alone killed, was unthinkable.
But there he was... Dead.
And what about the 2,000 Rain Ninjas Hanzō had led into battle? What had become of them? Surely they hadn't all been wiped out? Not a single survivor?
Finally, one of the Rain Ninja jōnin found his voice. "C-Can we... verify the body?"
Kaito shrugged, unbothered. "Sure. Go ahead."
He had no issue with letting them confirm the truth. After all, if it meant they surrendered without a fight, it would save him the hassle.
And once they surrendered, he could strip Amegakure of its resources, wealth, and manpower—maybe even rope them into working for Konoha to pay off reparations.
With only a few hundred Rain Ninjas left, they weren't much of a threat anymore.
"Thank you," the Rain Ninja jōnin said with a bow before cautiously stepping forward to examine Hanzō's corpse. After a tense few moments, he stood up, his expression a mix of sorrow and fear.
"It's him," the jōnin confirmed, his voice heavy. "This is indeed the body of Lord Hanzō."
The gathered Rain Ninjas fell silent.
The jōnin hesitated before asking, "What about... the others? The 2,000 Rain Ninjas who went with him?"
"They're all dead," Kaito said bluntly, his tone as cold as ice.
The jōnin's pupils contracted, his breath catching in his throat. Pain and despair flashed across his face, but he quickly forced himself to stay composed. This wasn't the time for grief—he needed to focus.
"I... I understand," he said after a deep breath. "I'll need to discuss this with the others."
"Go ahead," Kaito said, waving him off casually.
He had no problem letting the jōnin go back to consult with the rest of Amegakure's leadership.
Meanwhile, he carefully put Hanzō's body back into storage. No way was he giving it back—it was far too valuable as research material. Maybe he could even use it for Edo Tensei in the future. Why waste a resource like that?
The jōnin returned to the village, where a group of Rain Ninjas immediately swarmed him with questions.
"So? Is it really him? Is it really Lord Hanzō?"
The jōnin nodded grimly. "It's him. No doubt about it. And worse... I asked about the others—the 2,000 Rain Ninjas who went with him. They're all dead. Killed by Konoha."
A heavy silence fell over the group.
One of them finally broke it with a sigh. "Honestly... when I saw that Uchiha Kaito wipe out 1,500 Iwagakure Ninjas in a matter of seconds with that terrifying Lightning Style of his, I had a feeling this was the outcome."
"For someone like him, 2,000 ninjas are nothing—just two rounds of Lightning Style and it's over."
Another nodded solemnly. "Exactly. We're not like the Iwagakure Ninjas who specialize in defense. Most of us are Water Style users. Against that kind of Lightning Style, we wouldn't stand a chance."
"So what do we do?" one of them asked, panic creeping into their voice. "Do we surrender?"
They exchanged uneasy glances, the answer clear on all their faces. Finally, one of them spoke up.
"Let's surrender! If we don't, we're all dead!"
"Agreed!"
"Then it's settled. We surrender!"
In no time, the Rain ninja unanimously reached a consensus.
Together, they opened the gates of Amegakure, leading the remaining Rain ninja, and chose to surrender to Konoha.
From there, tasks like gathering Amegakure's resources and wealth, negotiating reparations, and peace talks with the village were left entirely to Jiraiya, Nara Shikayama, and the others.
As for Kaito, he decided to wander around Amegakure with Kushina, Mikoto, and a few others.
"Ugh, it seems like it's always raining here. It feels so dreary, like there's a depressing vibe in the air!"
"Kaito, when can we head back to Konoha?"
"I still prefer Konoha and the Land of Fire's climate. Staying here feels so uncomfortable!"
Kushina was holding an umbrella as she strolled down the street, unable to hold back her complaints.
To be fair, during her time on the frontlines, she had been sneaking off to the One Piece world to relax during her breaks. Otherwise, it would've been even harder for her to bear.
"Yeah, the weather here is really unbearable!"
Mikoto nodded in agreement.
An occasional rainy day can be refreshing.
But constant rain? It's just awful.
It ruins the mood entirely.
"Well…"
Kaito chuckled and said, "The battles on the frontlines are pretty much over now."
"We've severely weakened the Suna ninja, and even Kazekage fell to me!"
"The Ame ninja have surrendered, and the Iwa ninja are no different."
"From here on, they don't really need us anymore."
"Once we're done here, I'll talk to Tsunade and see if we can head back early."
Staying here any longer would just be a waste of time.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go ask her now!"
"C'mon, let's go!"
Kushina couldn't hold back her excitement. She grabbed Kaito's hand and rushed toward Tsunade.
— — —
It didn't take long for them to find her.
Unfortunately, Tsunade was still busy negotiating with the Rain ninja at the time.
Seeing this, Kushina had no choice but to wait patiently.
About half an hour later, after the negotiations concluded and Tsunade handed the remaining tasks to Shikayama, Kushina couldn't hold back anymore and approached her eagerly.
"Heh!"
Tsunade smiled and flicked Kushina on the forehead, causing her to yelp in pain. Teasing her, Tsunade said, "You can't handle this much? What'll you do when you face harsher environments and more difficult missions?"
"Besides, even if the frontline battles are over, it's best if we return to Konoha with the rest of the group."
"When the time comes, you can enjoy the villagers' warm welcome together!"
"But heading back early? That's just not right."
Saying this, Tsunade ignored Kushina's pout and turned to Kaito.
"By the way," she said, "you've shown some terrifying strength in front of so many Konoha ninja. How are their impressions of you now?"
"How many meet the requirements for the contract?"
"Why don't you take some time to form those contracts with them?"
This was a critical point for Tsunade.
She was eager for Kaito to contract with all of Konoha's shinobi.
If that happened, Konoha would truly be united as one, ready to fully develop and explore the One Piece world.
Internal conflicts would be a thing of the past.
"Right now, I'd say about half of them meet the requirements," Kaito replied.
"The rest aren't far off either."
"That many? Not bad!"
Tsunade's eyes lit up with excitement.
"If that's the case, don't waste time. Get it done as soon as possible!"
"This isn't the right place," Kaito said, shaking his head.
"Contracting on such a large scale here risks leaking the news."
"Especially since some people haven't met the requirements yet."
"Treating them differently might cause unnecessary misunderstandings."
"Not to mention, Black Zetsu and White Zetsu are likely watching us."
"I've already sensed Black Zetsu and a large number of White Zetsu lurking near and even inside Amegakure."
"They haven't gotten too close, but we can't be careless."
"Let's wait until we're back at the frontline base—or better yet, back in Konoha. Once I become Hokage, I can summon them individually for contracts."
"By then, even more people might meet the requirements."
"There's no need to rush."
Hearing this, Tsunade immediately used her sensory abilities.
Sure enough, she detected several White Zetsu inside and outside Amegakure. Black Zetsu was stationed about five kilometers away from the village.
Frowning, she said, "You're right. There are quite a few White Zetsu, and Black Zetsu is nearby too."
"Alright, we'll wait until you're Hokage to handle this."
"But when are we going to deal with Black and White Zetsu?"
"Keeping them around is such a pain—they're disgusting and annoying!"
"They make so many things inconvenient."
Kaito nodded.
"Soon. Once I take over as Hokage, I'll make time to eliminate them and whatever remnants of Uchiha Madara are still around."
"We can't let Madara keep stirring up trouble."
"If we don't deal with him, there's a chance that under his manipulation, Kumo and Kirigakure might declare war on Konoha too."
"That's the last thing I want to see."
"After I take over, Konoha is going to undergo major reforms."
"For that, we need a stable environment."
He even thought about reviving Uchiha Madara and Hashirama using Edo Tensei after defeating them.
Maybe he could make Madara a loyal worker—it might even be fun.
"Are you really confident about dealing with Madara?" Tsunade asked, concerned.
"Maybe you should use Edo Tensei to revive my grandfather first? Another top-tier fighter wouldn't hurt."
