Alex's eyes brightened. That changed everything.

Technically speaking, due to his system and the Supreme Demon Lineage flowing through his veins—a bloodline far superior even to that of Demon Gods—he possessed the theoretical potential to command an unlimited number of demons. Unlike ordinary summoners, he wasn't limited by traditional seals, contracts, or rituals. His lineage itself was authority.

But the issue wasn't about numbers. The real problem was that he currently lacked the strength to fully wield that authority. It wasn't something granted all at once. He had to unlock it gradually, step by step, through evolution and acknowledgment from other powerful beings. The system was like a locked vault—he already held the master key, but each lock required a specific kind of achievement to open.

Just like when Cypher evolved into a Lord-Class Baroness. That moment had tugged at his Supreme Demon Lineage, stirring it ever so slightly—and in doing so, it granted him an additional contract slot.

Each victory, each moment of recognition, each time he dominated a powerful demon, nudged his lineage further toward awakening.

"I see," Alex muttered.

"There's still a danger," Cypher added, her tone turning serious.

Alex felt a sudden urge to flick her on the forehead. "Then why didn't you just say that from the start? You dragged me through a whole emotional loop for nothing."

He lightly tapped her forehead with his fingers.

"Ow," she whined, rubbing the spot with a pout. "I saw in a show once that reactions like that work."

Alex arched an eyebrow at her. Just what kind of shows had she been watching?

"Alright," he said with a sigh. "So, what's the actual danger?"

"Well," she began, fiddling absently with the hem of her coat, "when we summoned Zephyra, she arrived with a surge of power. The summoning circle itself had a cap—it can only draw in demons up to a certain strength. I think that's tied to the contract slot system you were talking about. It basically ensures the summoner doesn't bring in someone too powerful to handle."

She glanced at him with a more serious look. "So… I don't know what would happen if you tried summoning a demon without a contract slot. If they're stronger than you can control, it could go south really fast."

Alex nodded slowly, absorbing that. So that's the risk. Even with his Supreme Demon Lineage, he wasn't immune to balance mechanics. Unless the system explicitly allowed it, a reckless summon could be catastrophic.

'System,' he thought, focusing inward. Can you hear me? Is this danger real if I summon without a slot?

Normally, the system only responded during major events or growth milestones. But this time, it replied almost immediately.

[Cypher is correct. The system governs which demons can safely bond with the host.]

Alex's eyes sharpened. A quest path, huh?

Another thought surfaced. 'Speaking of quests… why haven't you given me any in the last six years? You used to send them regularly when I started. What changed?'

There was a short pause before the system answered again.

[That is because, at the time, the host was a weak little chicken with low survival prospects.]

[The initial quests were given to keep the host alive and help avoid early death.]

[However, once the host reached a level of self-sustaining power, the system no longer deemed it necessary to assign compulsory quests.]

[The host has consistently advanced without prodding—learning Chi, mastering combat, and evolving demonic attributes.]

[As a result, the system respectfully refrained from interference, choosing instead to honor the host's own growth pace.]

[I have always been respectful. You are the master, remember?]

Alex gave a subtle nod, lips twitching faintly at the system's playful tone. Now it was being polite? Well, at least it wasn't giving cryptic riddles anymore.

He didn't say anything aloud. Instead, he quietly exhaled and turned back to Cypher, who was watching him closely.

"You zoned out again," she remarked, raising an eyebrow. "Thinking about who to summon next?"

He offered a vague smirk. "Something like that."

Cypher crossed her arms, but her gaze softened slightly. "Well, I suppose we can think about summoning someone else. But we should be careful. There's no need to rush into something dangerous if it can be avoided."

Alex gave a small nod, though his mind was elsewhere. I've already got enough power for now. Besides, the Devil Book's reading progress is at 41%. Maybe once I hit the 50% mark, it'll unlock some kind of innate ability. Most likely something related to shadows, since that's my foundation—everything I've built so far stems from V's legacy. 

"Yeah. No shortcuts," he said, echoing her sentiment aloud.

Cypher stepped a bit closer, her tone growing more instructive. "It's just like how you trained to master Chi. You didn't rush it. You spent years on that. Treat your Demonic Mana the same way."

Alex's thoughts sparked. That meant he'd need to find something to help him grow that aspect—maybe hunt for a powerful source of demonic knowledge…

Or.

Or he could just buy a demonic magic grimoire straight from the system shop.

Damn. Why didn't I think of that earlier?

He mentally cursed himself for being so focused on other things. He had more than 3,000 system coins saved up—surely that would be enough for at least an entry-level grimoire. Even a basic one would help jumpstart his magical development.

As Cypher kept speaking in the background, Alex silently pulled open his system interface and navigated to the shop menu.

"Huh? That grimoire looks familiar," she said, stepping in closer, eyes narrowing curiously at the tome in his grasp.
